Thought he had a very good game today. Won his fair share when the ball was played up and moved their defence all over the shop with mane.

The 442 worked well with two quick forwards moving like that. It was a loosely based 442

But long is deffo worth to keep his place.

Just imagine last seasons Rodriguez up with mane like that. You can kind of see why we would go after Hernandez and such like

Yeah he did well. Lacks composure as we know and finishing is poor but he has a good leap and made good runs that created space for others and certainly ****ed off Terry and Cahill.

Deserves another start but hard to see him having a great Saints career overall as he just lacks that bit of quality IMO and isnt a reliable goalscorer.

had a great game today really stretched the Chelski defence......so he aint gonna score a load of goals....so what??? as long as he creates space for others

Sorry, but we don't have enough goalscorers to play a striker who just creates space. He had two great opportunities yesterday and unfortunately is not of high enough quality to convert them.

I have to agree with this. He also had several great chances to put a ball over the top for Mane to create a 1 on 1 with the keeper but failed to get any of them over the centre backs.

You have to admire his attitude and commitment but in the premiership you also need skill and composure.

He's the sort of striker that is so suited to how we play, and even last season. High pressing from the front, chasing lost causes, working the channels. He's perfect for it. I'm sure that's why he was short-listed and why he was on our radar last year as well. In many ways, he's a less prolific version of Jay Rodriguez - which I'm sure the club had in mind when they recruited.

He may not score many goals, but I don't believe the club bought him for just goals. They bought him for his all round game which is so much more than just goals, as we saw yesterday and have seen at other occasions this year.

It's good to have a powerful striker like Pelle, but I do think our actual game is much more suited when we have willing runners from the front who can stretch sides.

Maybe so but when you are the lone striker in a football team full of good midfielders you need to score goals. I'm not expecting a prolific striker at all but he is not a good finisher and it has and will cost us points. His other contributions are important but are they as tangible as the goals he misses out on? I am not so sure. Hard to conclude one way or another but if he is to play up front for us I want to see goals.

How many times has he played as the lone striker though? I'd suggest he'd have a lot more goals if he played there more this year, but most of the time he's played wide of Pelle in a supporting role or hasn't even played at all! He's not had huge opportunities to regularly score goals, but when he's played he's always added a little bit extra and I've got no problem with that.

is it a coincidence that Saints created more chance in 1 game than perhaps for the last 6 or 7 games combined with Long in the team and the pace of Mane and Long stretching the game? I think not. Thought we looked a much better side yesterday with the pace and movement Long brought to the game
