Saint Charlie Posted 15 March, 2015 Share Posted 15 March, 2015 I think there are another 3 games until the cut-off: Burnley, Everton and Hull. Two match ban for anyone who gets 10 yellows. Wanyama has 9 and I think Schneiderlin has 8. Nightmare would be both missing the same games. Ten yellows these days in 30 games is easy for central midfielders to pick up, not sure it really deserves that severity of ban, but those are the rules. Hard to see Wanyama going 3 games without a booking but hopefully Morgan can make sure he doesnt get two out of three games (he probably should have got one for the Fabregas tackle). Anyone else remotely close to 10?
markr27 Posted 15 March, 2015 Share Posted 15 March, 2015 Think everyone aside from Wanyama is on a maximum of 7, so should be OK!
Lighthouse Posted 15 March, 2015 Share Posted 15 March, 2015 We thumped Everton without both of them so it's not the end of the world if they do miss a couple of games.
S-Clarke Posted 15 March, 2015 Share Posted 15 March, 2015 I'm stunned to see Charlie raise this point, it's not like him to look for sour angles. Let's worry about it if and when it happens, eh?

Let's worry about it if and when it happens, eh? Its just a talking point mate. Not looking for a sour angle at all but Wanyama is one yellow away from missing two games so worth a thread if we have any others who might also be dodgy, like Schneiderlin. Especially given both players are so key to us. If we only discussed things if and when they happen then this forum would be pointless. Saint Charlie Posted 15 March, 2015 Author Share Posted 15 March, 2015 Charlie you can't help yourself. Whats the problem? Should I not mention Wanyama will get a two match ban with one more yellow just because its not necessarily positive? Its not negative either, its just...true. Anyone else remotely close to 10? Plus cup games, which (ridiculously) also count. Does Morgan's 2 yellows (against Chelsea at SMS) count in his tally? If so, a bit unfair since it became a red for that match and a suspension.

Not sure if neither, one or both of those count. Stupid rule though in the modern game. Neither he or Wanyama are dirty players, just competitive and these days one mistimed but innocuous tackle equals a yellow.

I agree Charlie but if all the tackles that merit a yellow were awarded it would be many more than are falsely given. If the style of player is used then Barton should be getting a 241 deal. Saint_clark Posted 15 March, 2015 Share Posted 15 March, 2015 Wouldn't it have been 2 games before the new year cut off? Just the one for reaching 10 bookings after that point?

S-Clarke Posted 16 March, 2015 Share Posted 16 March, 2015 Unless you're an already-booked Nemanja Matic. Yeah, what the hell is that about. He well and truly bottled that one, and I'm not sure why. He went to his pocket...and then took his hand away. Why do that? Go with your gut instinct, don't be influenced by the mass of players - or in this case, the lack of players appealing. Jose knew, as he was subbed pretty much after that. Showed him to be quite weak as a ref.

Only Wanyama is one caution away from a suspension. Morgan must be at least two away otherwise he would be on the official list: http://www.thefa.com/football-rules-governance/suspensions

So of he just gets one yellow in the next 3 games he will be ok. Think there is another ban for 15 but hopefully that won't be an issue. They do need to look at it though IMO. Too easy to get yellow cards and the 2 match ban at a crucial time for getting one every 3 games seems severe.

At least Vic and Morgan get their bookings for something tangible, rather than something silly like taking their shirt off during a goal celebration. I believe that as Schneiderlin served a suspension based on those two yellows against Chelsea in December, they don't count towards his tally for the season. Transfermarkt (generally the most reliable data source in recent years) has him down for 7 qualifying yellow cards - Liverpool (away), Swansea (away), Sunderland (home), Leicester (home), Sheffield United (away) [ONE-MATCH BAN SERVED VS EVERTON], Ipswich (home), QPR (away). He'd have to get booked in each of the next three games to pick up another ban, which seems fairly unlikely. If he ended up picking up yellows in each of the next two, Koeman could even take the decision to rest him for the Hull game to ensure he doesn't reach the 10 cards before the amnesty point. Wow, if a player has two, both yellows in a match are not counted? I thought it would only be one not counted (or unfairly, none). So, if he gets a 10th yellow in the Hull match, he should deliberately get a second yellow (=sending off) in the 94th minute of that match (with 30 seconds left in the match), and only serve a one match ban for the subsequent red, instead of 2 matches for 10 yellows.
