Man City are probably fine with that points cushion, but they are stuttering a bit. Reckon Arsenal could finish 2nd at this rate, and Man City 3rd, but with Liverpool resurgent also, Man U had better watch out. Hope there is a European spot for us as well (though resigned to it being Europa!)

so of the remaining weekend games that matter to us:

1) Obviously, we want to beat Chelsea

2) again, obviously, we want a Liverpool loss

3) Spurs/United.. that is a tough one.

........a) Spurs win, they stay ahead of us, but then we are 1 point off of fourth (if we beat Chelsea)

........b) Man U win, we pass by Spurs into 6th place or even 5th place if Liverpool also loses, but we are 4 points off fourth place (if we beat Chelsea)

........c) They draw, we pass by Spurs into 6th place or even 5th place if Liverpool also loses, but then we are 2 points off fourth place (if we beat Chelsea)

I guess the draw is the best, but you also got to factor in the joy of Pochettino losing. decisions, decisions...

what do you root for?

I'll worry about us getting a positive result before thinking about what others are doing. The only way we will finish in a good position is by winning our own games.

A quick heads up for sportsmania users: the Chelsea game will be put up to watch on demand later today (gotta go out for lunch today so can't watch live). Mostly I'll be avoiding tv and radio today.

You're going to stop talking about Stoke and Swansea catching us then? Good.

Good luck with that, Goat!

I was faced with a similar situation for the Saints v Man City game. Drove home for 3 hours avoiding all radio etc and even though I was breaking my neck for a p!ss, I refused to stop in case someone had a radio on in the service station. Got home, managed to get in the door without seeing the neighbours, hit the fast forward button on sky plus to skip pre-match ramble, but, keeping my finger on the button too long, the bloody thing skipped to the end of the recording and locked on to a freeze frame of Lampard and Clichy being interviewed post-match.

Had to watch the entire damn recording knowing that I'd almost certainly seen the motm or at least one of the goal-scorers being interviewed. :x

You obviously haven't met my mother in law. My ears will be bleeding and I will probably have scooped out my eyes with a spoon by the end of the afternoon.

As Goat's mother-in-law I can confirm that this will be the case.

shaw dropped completely from the united squad after being subbed off at half time in their fa cup game. anyway, hoping for a united win later if only to see poch lose and us remain above them in the table for a week

He's injured. for a change.

I'm going to trust the maths and hope for a draw. 4 points dropped by our rivals instead of just 3 for a defeat. If we assume it's going to be a Liverpool Arsenal Cup final, I don't think it makes much difference if we finish 5th or 7th.

2-0 now. Utd win is exactly what we don't need. Hope Spuds defend like this at St Mary's.

Was unsure what result I was going to hope for from United/Spurs but now I hope United give them a shafting. United will drop points in their next games and it might signal the wheels coming off Pochettino's wagon and instil some doubt.

Plus the fact my in laws are Tottenham supporters and always say Saints 'were lucky' every time we win or get a result.

Posted

United win probably seals off Champions League aspirations (though I guess quite predictably). Still though, 6th place would be nice and would mean Europa without having to think about FA Cup permutations!

Posted

Being pragmatic about things, Spurs and Liverpool are who we're really battling with for 5th place, as it'll be Arsenal and Utd in 3rd and 4th. Utd beating Spurs keeps us ahead of them.

well the title of this thread was Weekend 14/15 Mar - Other Games. Thought that would be a pretty good place to speculate about what others are doing. :D

Spurs look a mess, looks like we've gained a place in the league this weekend!

Given the games coming up for Utd in the coming weeks, I don't think that 6 point lead they have is insurmountable. Ok, its looking likely that the top 4 will be the top 4 come the end, but there will still be twists. European football in any sense for us is a truly remarkable achievement, and given the fact that 7th looks likely to qualify you, we're almost there.

If you scratch beneath the surface of this Spurs team, they're actually ****. Kane, Lloris and Eriksen are excellent, but would any of Rose, Vertonghen, Dier, Walker, Chadli, Townsend, Mason or Bentaleb get into our team? I don't think so

Posted
Chadli seems alright.

Inconsistent though. I really like him and he gets a decent number of goals, when he is in the mood - which seems to be 2/3 of the time. In other games he can really go missing

Same as most wide players. If they did it every week they would be at Real Madrid.

You have to feel sorry for Poch.

His only target was to get into the top four and that little dream is disappearing faster than a greedy man responding to a call from North London.

But at least he can be proud of the achievements of the team that he left us and that is doing pretty well - Forster, Mane, Pelle, Tadic etc, all those great players that Poch brought in that have made Ronald look so good.

Swansea have been absolutely fantastic, Liverpool have been woeful.

But Swansea just haven't taken advantage...surely L'Pool can't be this horrific all game?

Posted

Lallana seems to have become a powder puff player, one tackle matey tapped his shins and he went down like a sniper had dropped him from the floodlights and stayed down............ Or is that Liverpool believing they have the officials in their pockets.

With this in mind did anyone spot the pally chit-chat between Brenda and Mr Friend on the weekend following his poor display for us v the Scousers where he had been dropped as a result of dodgy decisions to be 4th official at Anfield!!!! ????

Indeed. But the fact that the next two weeks see United V Liverpool and Liverpool V Arsenal is encouraging, surely. That's a bare minimum of 6 points dropped by rivals.

I had actually forgotten about cork already. The fickleness of football fans eh

I saw him, thought much the same. Was disappointed he didn't stay, but we moved on fairly swiftly.
