KelvinsRightGlove Posted 12 March, 2015 Share Posted 12 March, 2015 Very sad news. Not read huge amounts of his stuff, but what I have I really liked. Seemed a decent chap from what I saw of him too.

pap Posted 12 March, 2015 Share Posted 12 March, 2015 Like KRG, didn't read a great deal of his stuff, but really enjoyed a collaboration he did with Neil Gaiman called Good Omens. Having read a lot of Gaiman's work, the Pratchett stuff sticks out a mile, such as a scene in which a trickster weaves his magic on a party of paint-balling detestable yuppie types, turning their paint balls into live ammunition, with hilarious results. Made a ton of money and more importantly, a ton of people happy. Has probably inspired a couple of generations into the bargain. That ain't bad going by anyone's standards, even if would have been nice to have him around for longer. RIP
Patrick Bateman Posted 12 March, 2015 Share Posted 12 March, 2015 Oh no way, very sad!! I enjoyed his books; light-hearted and very very engaging.
sadoldgit Posted 12 March, 2015 Share Posted 12 March, 2015 (edited) 66 is no age is it? Like many here, not read his books although I have seen some TV adaptations. Another like Douglas Adams that have left the world a richer place for their having been here. RIP Sir Terry. sadoldgit Posted 12 March, 2015 Share Posted 12 March, 2015 If you are going to write books in the fantasy genre, this is what you should look like.
badgerx16 Posted 12 March, 2015 Author Share Posted 12 March, 2015 .... light-hearted and very very engaging. 'Light hearted' maybe, but with an undercurrent of making some very pointed and relevant commentary on modern society.
Block 18 Posted 12 March, 2015 Share Posted 12 March, 2015 'DON'T THINK OF IT AS DYING, said Death, JUST THINK OF IT AS LEAVING EARLY TO AVOID THE RUSH.' ― Terry Pratchett, (1948-2015)
OldNick Posted 12 March, 2015 Share Posted 12 March, 2015 I personally knew Terry and his wife Lynne, and been to his library/writing room ,supplying quite a few items that adorn it. He was a very engaging character. the world has lost a real character. RIP Terry.

manji Posted 12 March, 2015 Share Posted 12 March, 2015 Sad that he died but found his books twee and irritating. Desperately wacky.
Saint in Paradise Posted 13 March, 2015 Share Posted 13 March, 2015 Thank you for posting that video I found it very interesting especially as I am an even older person than Sir Terry. I also have to confess that until now I had no knowledge of him.
farawaysaint Posted 13 March, 2015 Share Posted 13 March, 2015 Sir Terry was an amazing author and I was deeply saddened by this news. R.I.P.
sussexsaint Posted 13 March, 2015 Share Posted 13 March, 2015 A brilliant man with a brilliant sharp mind. His books are superficially dungeons and dragons but if you take any time to read them you will see they are filled with politically relevent biting satire. A great loss, and today I'm very sad. Traded emails with him many years back and met him a couple of times. A towering intellect. In the BBC Big Book top 100 he had more books than any other author by a long long way. Only hinderence was that his fans all preferred different books. A few quotes: The entire universe has been neatly divided into things to (a) mate with, (b) eat, © run away from, and (d) rocks The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it. The pen is mightier than the sword if the sword is very short, and the pen is very sharp Just erotic. Nothing kinky. It’s the difference between using a feather and using a chicken. Set a fire for a man and he will be warm for just one night , set fire to a man and he will be warm for teh rest of his life RIP Sir Terry
rallyboy Posted 13 March, 2015 Share Posted 13 March, 2015 He was obviously an engaging character. I've not read any of his books but if his simple farewell on Twitter was anything to go by, perhaps I should. Terry took Death’s arm and followed him through the doors and on to the black desert under the endless night.
sussexsaint Posted 13 March, 2015 Share Posted 13 March, 2015 It was prefaced by death coming for him. Death is the only character to be in all his books and always talks in CAPITAL LETTERS the tweet simply said AT LAST SIR TERRY ,WE MUST WALK TOGETHER and after your tweet RB was a rather poignant tweet which simply said 'The end'
lloydie Posted 13 March, 2015 Share Posted 13 March, 2015 Probably a more left field reason than most on here to get into Pratchet, but as a child I loved the video game adaptations of his discworld. Never did read the books as I was probably a bit young at the time, but now I think I'll give them a go. RIP Terry.
scotty Posted 13 March, 2015 Share Posted 13 March, 2015 Good Omens is a fitting epitaph. If you haven't heard it, look it up; will be available soon on CD or download. RIP Terry. I'm at least glad you didn't have to endure the worst Alzheimer's threatened you with.
