Lallana's Left Peg Posted 11 March, 2015 Posted 11 March, 2015 Good for him. But his form has tailed off dramatically the last month. Who was the last player we had who made the Dutch squad while they were with us? Is he the first?
Saint-Armstrong Posted 11 March, 2015 Author Posted 11 March, 2015 (edited) In other news, German newspaper Bild are reporting that we are set to make his loan deal a permanent switch - and our option to buy (for approx. £4m) runs until May. Other Premier League clubs are ready to move in, if we choose not to sign him. https://translate.google.co.uk/translate?sl=auto&tl=en&js=y&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.bild.de%2Fsport%2Ffussball%2Feljero-elia%2Fbremen-online-artikel-40102400.bild.html&edit-text= - For £4m, I'd definitely make him part of the squad. Definitely a bargain at £4M! And we'll need squad players next season if we make Europa!
Edmonton Saint Posted 11 March, 2015 Posted 11 March, 2015 Hope we don't make him permanent. Seen nothing from him bar Newcastle away. Would be a waste of money IMO.
SuperMikey Posted 11 March, 2015 Posted 11 March, 2015 Hope we don't make him permanent. Seen nothing from him bar Newcastle away. Would be a waste of money IMO. Agree to an extent, as he's not been particularly good so far. However, he was fantastic against Newcastle and has shown glimpses of what he can do in other games as well, although I agree that he's not been consistent enough. Saying that, he has had a rough time in the last couple of years and clearly Ron thinks he's a good player given that he's started most games. Maybe if he was to move here permanently and settle in more, we'll see more consistency and confidence from the guy. Either way, his experience is definitely valuable to have in the squad anyway.
david in sweden Posted 11 March, 2015 Posted 11 March, 2015 there are some pretty dam*ing criticisms there already - and after only 8 starts. A bit harsh, I think. There was a period after Mané was signed that people were starting to compare him with Ali Dia. then suddenly he scored goals for us and he was the club hero. I really think Elia should see out his loan period (10 games to go) before we start making sweeping statements like that. Yes he's only scored 2 goals so far, but they were good enough to get us three points at Newcastle (never an easy task). NOTED: One might see that Pellé has only scored ONCE in the same period.
Saint Charlie Posted 11 March, 2015 Posted 11 March, 2015 (edited) £4m is a bargain for a PL quality player these days. Hopefully with a full pre season he can do well. Similar level to a Maharez/Nathan Dyer IMO. He isn't actually that quick I don't think but has some lovely skill at times. Edited 11 March, 2015 by Saint Charlie
simo Posted 11 March, 2015 Posted 11 March, 2015 Typical , moves to a top premier league team gets straight in the national squad !
Lets B Avenue Posted 11 March, 2015 Posted 11 March, 2015 He's in the PSG end at Chelsea tonight. Hope he doesn't try to go home on the tube.
Saint Charlie Posted 11 March, 2015 Posted 11 March, 2015 He's in the PSG end at Chelsea tonight. He is leaving to join PSG. He must be because Berahino was at the Man Utd v Arsenal game the other day and he is now nailed on to go to United apparently. Source: Daily Mirror
CityRanger Posted 11 March, 2015 Posted 11 March, 2015 He's ok, similar standard to Jason Puncheon imo. 4 million a fair price if correct from what we've seen so far. Wouldn't be gutted if we don't sign him though!

davefizzy14 Posted 12 March, 2015 Posted 12 March, 2015 I like Eljero, those two goals alone against Newcastle were crucial. I would snap their hand off at £4 million to sign him permantley.
Convict Colony Posted 12 March, 2015 Posted 12 March, 2015 he's disciplined down the left, has the tricks to beat any right back in the league, he's adapting to our league and the refs, I'd take him for the price of rory delap all day and everyday. Getting the dutch call up is only going to improve his confidence further which we will see the benefits of. I really think he is a good player who will get better and better in these final games.

Ditto - he does his defensive duties well. Which shows discipline and being coached well.
