hypochondriac Posted 16 March, 2015 Share Posted 16 March, 2015 He has played as CB the majority of the season though and only ever played about 5 mins for the first team so far. How many minutes did Shaw have before he became first choice?
Sour Mash Posted 16 March, 2015 Share Posted 16 March, 2015 How many minutes did Shaw have before he became first choice? But he played at left back through his youth career, not centre back. Who has played at right back for us this season when Clyne has been out?
Sour Mash Posted 16 March, 2015 Share Posted 16 March, 2015 Wasn't that the same for Luke shaw? He was replacing a player of the level of Danny Fox, not Clyne.
Toadhall Saint Posted 16 March, 2015 Share Posted 16 March, 2015 He was replacing a player of the level of Danny Fox, not Clyne. So it was the same - first team very little experience. It matters not who you are replacing only that those who do the judging think you are good enough.

Batman Posted 16 March, 2015 Share Posted 16 March, 2015 Wasn't that the same for Luke shaw? Yes and we spent £10m on a replacement that had played in a CL final As for shaw coming in. We had different expectations and the player he replaced over time was awful (fox)

NickG Posted 24 March, 2015 Share Posted 24 March, 2015 If you want to you can. You will only be more disappointed when the inevitable happens. Think you have confused what is, in your opinion, likely to happen, with inevitable! We don't know what's going to happen but there are several points that go against your "inevitable". He isn't a player who has suddenly made good, when he came to us he was 25 years old, played at every international level, about 40 times for senior team. He played 13 times for the La Liga champions, plus champions league including final. He was used mainly as sub but played a lot more minutes last season than this...for a better side. In the summer either these other clubs weren't interested in him or not willing to pay what we did. Now after 16 odd games they all want to pay even more? Didn't he turn down spurs? Haven't spurs signed one, nearly two CBs? He spoke about one of reasons he signed was Koeman. Since then he has enjoyed a successful season with him. He wanted to come in summer when we were tipped for relegation. Now, 16 performances later, when we have improved more than him, we are not good enough? His club agreed the best fee they thought they could get in the summer. Due to reported buy out clause his value would have to have risen more than £1.5m in 16 games for that fee to no longer be the going price. He has said being wanted & first team is very important to him. He has said he wants to stay. He clearly has good link with Fonte. Koeman has said he wants him to stay. A lot of rumours don't turn into bids let alone signings, In summary, I don't know whether he will stay, wouldn't be surprised either way. My gut feeling is a little more likely to stay than go. Ken Tone Posted 24 March, 2015 Share Posted 24 March, 2015 Surely it will (as nearly always) come down to wages. If we pay Toby enough, he'll stay with us. Transfer fee fee is not such a big deal . In effect we have a £1.5million discount agreed with Athletics Madrid. If Spurs offer them £10 million, £1.5 mil of that will come to us. There is nothing to stop us agreeing to forget the loan deal, and pay a fee of say £9million to Madrid. They'd keep all of that and be 1/2 a mill in better of than from selling to Spurs

david in sweden Posted 25 March, 2015 Share Posted 25 March, 2015 Vertonghen is their biggest issue defensively (tied with Walker) because he was become dramatically worse this season then previous. which maybe something to do with ...who he is partnered with. If he's so good playing with Toby for Belgium - why is he so poor at Spuds? Many agreed that Lovren looked really good last season just because he was playing between Wanyama and Fonte. hasper57saint Posted 25 March, 2015 Share Posted 25 March, 2015 What gets me about this whole charade is that no one has personally heard Toby say he wants to play for Spuds. When he actually says that I'll believe it.It would appear that we 'upstarts' are quite good and aren't frightened of the big boys so the Londoncentric Press try to undermine our relative success by suggesting another big sale of our players,a repeat of last season.I want Toby to stay as I do Clyne and Morgan but the latter two haven't committed to us in the same way Toby did "I would like to stay at Southampton".After watching the Arse recently I have reservations as to whether or not Morgan will fit into their set up.
