Earned more from selling players from our youth academ than any other club since 2012

It's a great model but the academy needs to continue to produce for it to be sustainable and we need to keep the best young players for longer. We can't really afford to have significant gaps in producing players who can cut it at the highest level without achieving something which raises the profile of the club whilst there is a chance.

I wonder, do we make the most per player, as an average? £90m for, say, ten players is not as good a ROI as £60m for five players.

Anyway, I'd still rather get more service from our best players than have them itching to leave the first chance they get. It's good that the club has a decent source of revenue, but as a fan I'm more interested in what happens on the pitch.

I've already written on the Northern Saints page that apart from Bale (via Spuds) no one has been snapped up by the real big European Clubs. If we could hold onto our talent we can compete with any team in any League.Forget about the sycophantic none sense that is the PL being the best in the world. It's all PR for Sky TV.

Surely you can add Luke Shaw to that? As much as Man Utd have slipped in the past two seasons, they are still one of the biggest clubs in Europe. Arsenal aren't exactly minnows either.

Not for one moment do I imply that Manure and Arsenal are NOT big Clubs but my point is that so few home-grown players are snapped up by Rael Madrid,Barcelona,PSG etc it's all one-way traffic because of the money not the quality of the players and you must agree there are quite a lot of mediocre overseas players in the Prem.

And not one youth player in the picture, well probably anyway

well JWP has been in first team squad since he was 17, but Matt Targett is amongst half-a-dozen lads who have long contracts, and obviously are developing well for the future.

Luke Shaw got his spot because he was so good - and his only real opposition was Danny Fox (nuff said).

Shaw was an exception, as it took Lallana 2-3 seasons to becomer a real regular at Championship / L1 level.

Matt Targett will come good in time, but I can't see him getting a call-up in preference to Bertrand - not just now anyway.

There are quite a few promising players in the U21 set-up, but very few will get a regular Prem. spot in the near future.

Turnbull and Stephens are getting rave reviews at Swindon, which is good experience - but it's not Prem. level.

A young player of 22-23 who hasn't made it to the bench, will look elsewhere for playing time, and a CV from our Academy will seem v.good to many L1 clubs.
