simo Posted 9 March, 2015 Posted 9 March, 2015 I think if most of us are honest I think we all expected to slip down to this position eventually? I think as far as the media and pundits will be concerned that's us out if the race for Champions league and probably European football, I think from now on our aim should be just to catch the team in front of us and go from there !
once_bitterne Posted 9 March, 2015 Posted 9 March, 2015 Out of the race for European football? It's very likely that 7th place will be good for Europa qualification.
Lallana's Left Peg Posted 9 March, 2015 Posted 9 March, 2015 We're still involved but we need to show more in the final third to be taken seriously. Find some form and momentum and we're right in it. But right now it feels like we'll just about scramble together enough points for 6th or 7th, which will still be an amazing achievement.
simo Posted 9 March, 2015 Author Posted 9 March, 2015 If I'm right 6th guarantees Europe 7th depends on ifs and buts?
Dr Who? Posted 9 March, 2015 Posted 9 March, 2015 Top 4, I do not think so. Top 7 is possible, of course it is, we have a 7 point gap from us to 8th. Would like to think we could finish 6th/7th, but we do look pretty shattered and the reason we are missing our cutting edge. Keep it tight at the back and I think we will Nick enough points for Europe, but to win nearly every week, I cannot see it and this is what the requirements are for top 4.
Dr Who? Posted 9 March, 2015 Posted 9 March, 2015 Also as I have been saying all season, we needs Spurs or Liverpool to slip up, to gain the top 6. That has changed slightly as I think Liverpool will finish top 4. I think Man U or Spurs need to slip up (Kane sprained ankle)?
S-Clarke Posted 9 March, 2015 Posted 9 March, 2015 If I'm right 6th guarantees Europe 7th depends on ifs and buts? As long as one of Arsenal, Liverpool or Utd win the FA Cup (given that they'll obviously finish within the top 6) then 7th will get the space. It looks likely, but stranger things have happened.

Dr Who? Posted 9 March, 2015 Posted 9 March, 2015 Won't that go to the runner up as it did to us in 2003? No rules have changed. No spot for runner up.
Dr Who? Posted 9 March, 2015 Posted 9 March, 2015 Anyway it will be, depending on the draw Liverpool v Man U or Arsenal. I am hoping that this is one of the semi final draws and Man U or arsenal beat Liverpool. Other side reading v villa
ericb Posted 9 March, 2015 Posted 9 March, 2015 Personally think we'll finish above Spurs still and have a sneaky suspicion we'll come very close to catching either Man U or A.N Other (depending on results but Man U have the toughest run in so going with them for now).

I am hoping that this is one of the semi final draws and Man U or arsenal beat Liverpool. Other side reading v villa Wouldn't be at all surprised if Villa win the cup, they're a decent side on paper who've been criminally mismanaged. We need to finish at least 6th and that means beating Spurs probably.
Turkish Posted 9 March, 2015 Posted 9 March, 2015 If I'm right 6th guarantees Europe 7th depends on ifs and buts? 9th could be enough.

Manure (PMSL) have a horrendous run now. They play Chelsea, Man City, Liverpool and spurs in their next 5 games. If they play like they are they'll struggle to get more than a couple of points from them. We should he above them with 5 games to go.
Whitey Grandad Posted 9 March, 2015 Posted 9 March, 2015 I think we'd need at least 6 or 7 wins from the next 10 games. The other competitors have to play each other quite a bit but beating spuds would be very satisfying.

I'd settle for lots of injuries and a replay with extra time.

Window Cleaner Posted 9 March, 2015 Posted 9 March, 2015 So what do we want from tonight? I'd settle for lots of injuries and a replay with extra time. I really don't want anything from tonights game but I expect Utd to win because Arsenal's defence is really fragile against any side that posesses a striker or some strikers worthy of the name.

As long as the final is contested between two clubs that from Liverpool, Arsenal, and Manchester United then I'm happy. Obviously if they get lots of injuries / suspensions on the way that will be helpful for the league.
Turkish Posted 9 March, 2015 Posted 9 March, 2015 So what do we want from tonight? I'd settle for lots of injuries and a replay with extra time. As long as Liverpool don't win the FA cup I don't care. By the way did you know the cup final is on the same day as Steven Gerard's birthday, which would also be his last game for Liverpool. They mentioned it yesterday on the coverage on BT. I can't believe it's not been mentioned before.
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 9 March, 2015 Posted 9 March, 2015 Don't forget some of the top teams have to play each other over the next few weeks too, which can only work in our favour.
tajjuk Posted 9 March, 2015 Posted 9 March, 2015 We need to find some momentum from somewhere, Pelle going on another goal scoring run. However it;s like 3/4 points to catch up from 10 games when the likes of Arsenal, Spurs and Man Utd all have to play tough games and each other so you never know. Liverpool have FA cup replay now, SPurs still have Europa league I think, Arsenal champions league. Sadly away to Chelsea up next so we most likely could slip 6 or 7 points off the pace, which is too much if others don;t slip up. I think it will be 7th maybe 6th
Window Cleaner Posted 9 March, 2015 Posted 9 March, 2015 Don't forget some of the top teams have to play each other over the next few weeks too' date=' which can only work in our favour.[/quote'] If we can win our games you mean. Swansea and West Brom were games we should have been able to win.
John B Posted 9 March, 2015 Posted 9 March, 2015 I am happy if we finish 7th and I dont want to be in the Europa Cup but I do want to win the Fa or League Cup
sadoldgit Posted 9 March, 2015 Posted 9 March, 2015 We have been playing well and just need to find our scoring touch. All we can do is go for every game and hope for the best. I feel gutted for Pelle. He clearly can play but seems shot at the moment. If RK can get him and Tadic firing again there is no reason why we cant finish well.
simo Posted 9 March, 2015 Author Posted 9 March, 2015 I am happy if we finish 7th and I dont want to be in the Europa Cup but I do want to win the Fa or League Cup Why not ?
Window Cleaner Posted 9 March, 2015 Posted 9 March, 2015 Why not ? Because he wants a day out at Wembley, seems to be a fixation with a fair number of Saints fans.

Snopper Posted 9 March, 2015 Posted 9 March, 2015 To be fair if at the start of the season someone had offered me a 6th or 7th finish at the end of it I would have bitten their hand off. As for Euro qualification, que sera, sera and all that.

As for Euro qualification, que sera, sera and all that. Why ? We finished 8th last year and spent 60 odd million £ on players, should we not progress really . I'd consider 7th as a very mediocre finish actually. So I think will the board.
the saint in winchester Posted 9 March, 2015 Posted 9 March, 2015 Don't forget some of the top teams have to play each other over the next few weeks too' date=' which can only work in our favour.[/quote'] This. We have to play a few of the top 6, starting with Chelsea, but proportionately fewer than the others who have to play each other and take points off each other. I'm setting my expectation level at finishing 7th, so if we can finish higher its all upside to me.

Window Cleaner Posted 9 March, 2015 Posted 9 March, 2015 We've also sold players 'worth' more than that. So why couldn't we afford a striker that we so desperately needed then?

It might be slow progress but progress nonetheless and much better than going backwards, which most thought we would do.
Dr Who? Posted 9 March, 2015 Posted 9 March, 2015 is that just your tactful way of saying " a broken leg " ..or ? I would not wish a broken leg on anyone, but a slight strain would not hurt... Well it would hurt him a little!
Window Cleaner Posted 9 March, 2015 Posted 9 March, 2015 I just do not see any point of it There is point to it because it is a new level, don't think we've ever qualified for a Euro competition (perhaps the Fairs Cup?) other than from Cup success (or failure) Krueger said it was the objective, Koeman says it's the objective so I think we can take it as read that it's the objective don't you.
Saxon Posted 9 March, 2015 Posted 9 March, 2015 It`s still progress though. It might be slow progress but progress nonetheless and much better than going backwards, which most thought we would do. If we finish higher than last season, which will in all probability provide us with some form of European football, that will be truly amazing. I really hope we manage to stay the course and get 6th/7th. If we managed 5th that would be even more amazing, but I'm really hoping for 6th. We've had an amazing season, the only disappointments being (again sadly) the cups. Anyway COYS, lets have one last push after this swiss trip abroad. Hopefully that pays off and the lads pull out all the stops after coming back rejuvenated. We can still very definitely challenge for the top four!

Dear god. 7th is top of the League excluding the current biggest and richest teams in the country, more than half of them (actually, 6 of them) are some of the biggest and richest clubs in the world. If finishing 7th us mediocre then you're supporting the wrong team sunshine.
