Her conclusion is that more women end up in lower paid professions than men, but then seems to give no evidence for the reasons for this other than her own opinion that there's no such thing as male sexism.

My point was that there is no meaningful wage gap within professions not on the societal pressures facing each gender. I fully accept that there are certain careers that are male dominated and female dominated and there should probably be some work put into addressing the effects of gender roles in this rather than focusing on a non existent problem.

Are socialised gender roles where one gender tends towards lower paid jobs not a form of sexism?

Where exactly did I say sexism doesn't exist? If you are saying women should be incentivized towards particular careers by being paid more than their male counterparts then I respectfully disagree wholeheartedly.

He was in an argument once and he went, 'How can I hate women, my mum's one.'... Yeah? There's a lot of truth in that

I find the industry of 'Male strippers' too male dominant. I feel the industry would certainly benefit from more female male strippers.

Of course not, although you could argue that as children in divorces generally end up with mum then they would have greater need of a generous wage.

Either way the fact remains that your average working girl earns significantly less per hour than the average male in Society, and that is a type of "wage gap."

I'd definitely go one step deeper than that and ask why we as a society value jobs (in monetary terms) that have been socialised to be male more than those that have been socialised to be female.

Ever heard the saying 'a woman's work is never done' young Andy?

Perhaps that's why they get paid less.

Not sure about that. A building labourer or delivery driver may well earn the same as a care worker or teaching assistant.

And how does it make you feel when you see that image? Because when I'm stood next to an image of a women dressed in her underwear, at night, I'm not getting on my moral ground here, I actually feeling quite vulnerable. To the point I feel I should move.

Its a picture of a bloke with most of his clothes off, shockingly I dont give it too much attention and I certainly dont feel at all vulnerable. Dont get me wrong I work out, eat well, play a lot of sport but Im nowhere near as defined. In fact if you were to ask me Id probably say 'fair play, but I couldnt be arsed to give up beer and the odd dime bar' I dobt find it in the least discriminatory etc

Should there be more equality between the sexes and should they be paid the same for the same job ? Of course. Should they be given equal oppurtunity ? Of course.

Id say the majority of women I know arent as career driven as their make counterparts, perhaps that is a societal pressure that they should be the ones that raise the kids but it is what it is. The opportunity is there for them and the flexible working regs now ensure that women are given the chance to return to work on acceptable terms. This probably has an effect on the average wage trends more than anything. But this isnt a comparison of a wage gap as such, just a look at how society currently works rightly or wrongly.

I work with women on the same level as me in an engineering discipline (generally regarded as male dominated) and all are paid at the same grade as me.

I remember once having this type of discussion with my secretary (female) in Belgium :

I said something along the lines of " since the beginning of time women have borne the children whilst man was the hunter and the provider"!

Without batting an eyelid she responded "so I suppose that you do the supermarket shopping every week then?)

Cheeky cow :):)

I can see it now ... It's fine for you, but what about unhappy people, when is it their day? etc etc

As much as I'd love to, I'll be having a lot of Happiness myself, on the slopes of Cervinia on the 20th (if I haven't broken anything in the previous 5 days skiing :scared:)

So I'll have to pass on the responsibility to someone else!!

I've worked for women bosses and on the whole they're right *****es.

They are particularly bullying towards other women. The best boss I ever had was a women, but she soon put all the other chicks in place. I put it down to her being a dozen Pinter , but she did more to stop other chicks' careers than any bloke would have done. I got on great with her , but if she didnt rate you, you were toast very quicvkly. She's way up the food chain now in a senior position ,but a man wouldn't have got away with half she did.
