Best away Fans of 14/15 season

After Tuesday's night games with CPFC, I think I'd go with them being my "favourite" away fans of this season. Their variety of songs was decent and was just generally impressed.

It got me thinking, what's everyone one else's thoughts? If I were to rank this seasons top 3 away followings is go with:

1.Palace

2.Chelski

3.UTD (even though I hate them)

Having been to 3 away games this season, Westham, Sheffield Utd, QPR, I think it hi lights the lack of songs we have this season. I know there's been a few posts on this topic floating around. I do genuinely think our vocal support has been poor this season in comparison to previous years. I sit in the Itchen north and in my opinion the Northam have been well below par this season. Too any games the atmosphere has been ****e. I love a good sing at the football but seems we have more and more happy flappy fans.

Going back to the actual topic how do we get to the same "level" as the palace fans and such like? Having that variety of songs that are decent, catchy that everyone can enjoy? All we do I bloody sing "oh when the saints"... One song weve only got one song!! Look forward to thoughts!

This is my first post on here, I have for along just had a read of all the threads but decided to take the plunge and post. Before I get berated, I've held a season ticket for 17 years now and love an away trip. Look forward to posting more hopefully!

Which one? Newcastle? West Ham?

If you hate Man Utd then don't feed the arrogance.

Which team has brought the least fans to St Marys this season? They're the best ones.

Palace fans at home are entertaining to start with but very annoying after a while , plus like Manure fans don't seem to spend much time watching the actual football. Manure fans seem more interested in standing to defy the stewards and jumping round and round rather than watching.

I wouldn't want our fans to be anything like the Crystal Palace fans.

I would. I'd love it if today's grounds sounded like those of the 70s, noisy and edgy, but they're not, things have changed. If we made constant noise like them I'd prefer that to the limited 'support' we now get from a couple of corners while the rest of the stadium is sat comatosed. There ain't many of them but they make a racket.

Palace probably, only bought 1800 for the short trip.

This goes back to a previous thread I've read discussing our home "support" grounds are quiter now and there are unfortunately a lot of plastic fans.

I thought palace hilighted for me how poor and quite our support is, even away games I feel it's dropped. Granted QPR any Sheffield Utd were both both poor games in terms of quality but the vocal support wasn't there.

I'd put Palace last with Man Utd top. Same as every year basically.

That's because you love Man Utd and their gloriously well sung songs.

Fúcking shít from the Itchen. Same as last year, basically.

Maybe it sounded better further out :)

Sunderland fans were great, even at 5/6-0 down there was still more noise coming from them than say the Everton or Leicester fans managed all game.

Ipswich were great too, but I guess, there was 5,000 of them!

Haven't been too impressed by many this year, Swansea were quiet as were the scousers until about an hour into the game. I don't remember QPR making a single noise apart from the two minutes between their equaliser and Pelle's unbelievable bicycle kick. The Newcastle were pretty noisy but for all the wrong reasons!

West Ham always seem to be good. Turn up in good numbers for week day night games. By comparison, Palace were pretty poor, and took a smaller allocation, given that they are that much closer than WHU (ie the right side of London).

There's no point bringing Chelsea/Man Utd/Liverpool into the equation, as they have so many "locals" and hangers on. The true supporters must get ****ed off every now and then.

NUFC to me are the best away fans.

Fair point with the big 3/4. however don't those teams sell away season tickets only? Only reason i mention is that one of my mate is a gooner and away tickets are like gold dust. Its regarded by many arsenal fans that the ''real'' fans go to the away games, not the plastics that are the Emirates.

I thought Palace were decent Tuesday night. Good songs, sang all game. True they didnt bring their full allocation which is poor. I think the reverse we would have sold out on a tuesday night at Selhurst.

I can't believe people still believe the myth that Man United's away support is made up of "locals" and hangers on. If you know anything about how they get their tickets you'd understand why they've got one of the most loyal (and local) supports of any club in any league.

Basically to qualify for away tickets for Man U you either need to have an away season ticket (that includes cup and European games by default) or you apply for a ballot at the beginning of the season and get what you get regardless of when it is.

It's why they're so loud, why you see so few noddies in replica shirts and why they travel is such impressive numbers.

Anyway back to point Man U were hands down the best so far this season, personally i hate Palace's "Ultras" a bunch of kids playing dress up and pretending to be scary when they're from f*cking Croydon isn't impressive at all. Plus at home if you take away the drum they're about as noisy as the Itchen corner (who are less cringeworthy).

Biggest disappointment for me this season were Swansea, normally they're noisy bastards but they were pitiful this season.

Swansea fans sat down most the game!!

I dont like the Palace Ultra's but I just thought they were decent.

The only others that were poor that spring to mind where Stoke.

Going back to my original point, how do you think we rank as away support in comparison to other teams in the league? I thought weve always been decent...!

Well if you take the train, you will see how many Man U/Arsenal/Chelsea/Liverpool are onboard (going towards Poole) compared to other teams. Of course it it tongue in cheek for the most part, and I can't believe that people take it seriously when others say it is mainly locals!!! For God's sake, it's a generalisation that we all know isn't true and is just football "banter"!

Most irritating fans are Palace. they're songs are just noise. Man Utd are always the best by a considerable distance.

United have by far the best away support imo which makes it worse that they always beat us! Nothing worse than being beaten and out sung at home!

Whatever you think of the type and size of the Palace support, they still came last week and made noise for the best part of 90 minutes. I sat not far from the dugouts on Tuesday and I can assure you it was far better than the home support, I know the Itchen corner got going in the second half but it doesn't have that much effect further along the stand. It must be the same every week for the teams sat on the bench, you get the full force of the away support, Pardew was constantly acknowledging the Palace fans, Koeman would have been far more aware of their support than ours.

Still, takes all kinds, if some prefer the kind of support from most of our fans (sitting on hands/bit shy to make some noise) then I guess that's just the way of the modern English supporter.

Years and years ago they were the best, but they've been spoilt and are now typical 'sing when you're winning' types

We support the Crystal Palace football team in London!

And that's the way we like it when we go to watch the football.

oh wooah wooahh woooaaahhhhh oooohhhhhhhhhhhhhh

genius songwriting.

They soon shut up last season at Dellhurst, when we went 1-0 up, and started singing that absolutely dreadful................"woooooaaaahhhhhh woooooooaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh heyyyyyyyoooooo heyooooooooo" with.....woah woah, you're f*cking sh!t, you're f*cking sh!t"

They didn't have any comeback to that,

It's because we didn't give them time to do another blue peter inspired "terrifying" cardboard and sticky backed plastic demonstration before that game that had pictures of skulls for a team that's commonly known as a bunch of nigels.

Those big scary Ultras from croydon...

They're up there with Reading and Watford on the noddy scale.

You can be loyal and not hail from Mancunia. They boast huge numbers that travel from London and the south east.

Newcastle have really disappointed in recent years, both home and away. Stoke and Everton too. Chelsea's away support is still very good value, however much I think they're c**ts. Villa's away support is underrated. By contrast, united and the scousers are overrated - they're not consistently vocal. Some of the nonprem sides that come to SMS in the cup are up there - Luton's support was excellent when they played us in 2010.
