trousers Posted 6 March, 2015 Posted 6 March, 2015 Only another 6 months to go before the summer transfer window closes. It's gonna be another long one....
VectisSaint Posted 6 March, 2015 Posted 6 March, 2015 Another case of some hack putting 2 and 2 and 2 together and making 99. Noted that Mitchell and Vertonghen know who Toby is and so that means Spuds will make a move for him. Its just more made up ******. [i hope]
Beachcombers Windowsill Posted 6 March, 2015 Posted 6 March, 2015 Would be amazed if there weren't a host of clubs (PL and otherwise) after him come the end of the season. Going to be a massive battle
SuperSAINT Posted 6 March, 2015 Posted 6 March, 2015 LOL at having Winston Reid above Toby on your short-list.
DT Posted 6 March, 2015 Posted 6 March, 2015 i bloody hate Spurs and everything about them. Makes me vomit every time they sing our song and pretend it's theirs. Or go on about being a big club when they get beaten. I hope they spiral into crappiness again and Pochettino gets the push. Rant over. Sun's out.
Saint Charlie Posted 6 March, 2015 Posted 6 March, 2015 Koeman was more influential that getting Toby here. But he will have many options and is a CL quality defender. Will be aa hard to keep him as it would be Clyne or Morgan. They are the three almost definites to go and that isn't being negative, its realistic.
Sour Mash Posted 6 March, 2015 Posted 6 March, 2015 Would be amazed if there weren't a host of clubs (PL and otherwise) after him come the end of the season. Going to be a massive battle Yep. It's a bit of a pointless article, I'm sure Spurs want him, but so will every other team in the PL. Someone like Man CIty that are desperate for a top CB would be more like where he'll end up. I'd back us to compete if we were just up against Spurs for him.
DT Posted 6 March, 2015 Posted 6 March, 2015 Where else would he get decent mid-season snow and ice fun?
Alanh Posted 6 March, 2015 Posted 6 March, 2015 you could make an argument that Man U could use all of Schneiderlin, Clyne and Toby as mentioned above as the most likely departees this summer. They could end up writing a cheque almost as big as Liverpool did last summer
the saint in winchester Posted 6 March, 2015 Posted 6 March, 2015 I can't see him being interested in Tottenham. Europa League level. We are above them in the table, in any case. Man City would likely be an attractive offer and it is likely we will lose out on him ... but not to Tottenham.
Saint-Fred Posted 6 March, 2015 Posted 6 March, 2015 i bloody hate Spurs and everything about them. Makes me vomit every time they sing our song and pretend it's theirs. Or go on about being a big club when they get beaten. I hope they spiral into crappiness again and Pochettino gets the push. Rant over. Sun's out. Funny listening on talksport about whether they can hold on to Kane for next season or beyond when a "big club" come in for him. Big club maybe but if one of Man U Liverpool Chelsea arsenal want one of their players then according to talksport it's when not if they go.. Sound familiar?

SuperMikey Posted 6 March, 2015 Posted 6 March, 2015 I can see why Toby would want to go to Spurs, especially when they have quality cup songs like this one: [video=youtube;5jMX5-Yu-iM]
Roboze Posted 6 March, 2015 Posted 6 March, 2015 Why would he go to spurs it's hardly a step up is it?
BlakeySFC Posted 7 March, 2015 Posted 7 March, 2015 I'm sure every semi-decent team in Europe wants him, another non-story by the telegraph.
Red Posted 7 March, 2015 Posted 7 March, 2015 Eww that sounds annoyingly plausible B - not sure if this is your usual tongue in cheek comment or not? But why on earth would a £10M bid from Spuds be appealing to AM? They would have to pay a 1.5M buyout, which on top of say a rounded figure of 7M for permanent deal is 8.5M. Surely Saints would pay an additional 1.5M to keep him, and Tony would want to stay for regular footy, which is no guarantee at Spurs? Maybe it's just me???
Dan Johnson Posted 7 March, 2015 Posted 7 March, 2015 Quiet frankly, if any team in the top 7 ISNT looking at signing Toby then their scouts are not doing their job properly.
Batman Posted 7 March, 2015 Posted 7 March, 2015 Why would he go to spurs it's hardly a step up is it? pretty sure the same was said last season when discussing whether MP would go there
CB Fry Posted 7 March, 2015 Posted 7 March, 2015 pretty sure the same was said last season when discussing whether MP would go there The delusion that Spurs aren't a step up from us will never die.
stug76 Posted 7 March, 2015 Posted 7 March, 2015 The delusion that Spurs aren't a step up from us will never die. If we made champions league and Spurs didn't, would it be a step up?
CB Fry Posted 7 March, 2015 Posted 7 March, 2015 If we made champions league and Spurs didn't, would it be a step up? No current Spurs players would be angling to move a "step up" and sign for us, that's for sure. One season of CL qualification once does not turn us into some mega club.

One season of CL qualification once does not turn us into some mega club. So, if we qualified for the CL, none of the current Spurs players would want to move to little old Saints? And you are sure of this. Ok. By the way, what is a mega club? Is it something you've just made up to enforce your Saints fans are 'delusional' point?

I cant think of any players that spurs have will come to us. we hardly sign anyone from the league anyway.

CB Fry Posted 7 March, 2015 Posted 7 March, 2015 Breaking News: Kane in Pochettino Showdown talks. His agent said "As soon as Harry heard about Saints CL qualification playoff against AEK Athens he knew where his future lay. He's desperate to make that step up into football's top table, and that's Southampton and no mistake".
Verbal Kint Posted 7 March, 2015 Posted 7 March, 2015 Regardless of league table standings and European qualification etc, Spurs are able to pay considerably better wages than us and are therefore a more popular club to join for players. It really is that simple. Everything else is irrelevant

Miltonaggro Posted 7 March, 2015 Posted 7 March, 2015 We can't compete with them in three main areas - revenue, fan delusion, or boardroom delusion (the latter two categories only bettered by the History Boys at Liverpool). They are an upgrade on Saints in the way that Jimmy Savile is an upgrade on Simon Mayo. Arguably, they've gone backwards in the last three years, hopefully this trend will continue until they disappear up their own *rses - http://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2012/jun/16/tottenham-hotspur-delusions-grandeur

So, if we qualified for the CL, none of the current Spurs players would want to move to little old Saints? And you are sure of this. Ok.
stug76 Posted 7 March, 2015 Posted 7 March, 2015 Of course Spurs are 'bigger' than us. Always have been. More fans, more revenue, better history. Why though is it 'delusional' to think that if we qualified for CL/Europe and Spurs didn't (and with only 10 games to go we are 2 points ahead of them, albeit they have a game in hand, so the situation is hardly 'delusional' in its own right) that some of their squad would fancy a move to us? What is this rule that you can only move to a 'bigger' club? How did we get players like Bertrand and Alderweireld? I don't think anyone believes that we are going to pinch Kane.
sotonist Posted 7 March, 2015 Posted 7 March, 2015 when blackburn got into the premier league top four they signed david batty from 5th place leeds. the champions of a couple of years earlier. i'm not saying we're able to flash the same sort of cash against blackburn. just showing that someone was willing to leave a big club for a smaller club in a better position.
Roboze Posted 7 March, 2015 Posted 7 March, 2015 i never said Spurs aren't a "Bigger" club than us, but they are certainly not a better team than us, on a par i would say.

Betrand and Toby didn't move to us because it was a "step up" though, which is the phrase you are arguing about. Us being in the Champions League is not going to make any Spurs player see us as a step up, because it won't be.
Bucks Saint Posted 7 March, 2015 Posted 7 March, 2015 Think they will be too busy finding a 30 goal a season replacment for Kane
Batman Posted 7 March, 2015 Posted 7 March, 2015 Think they will be too busy finding a 30 goal a season replacment for Kane he wont be going anywhere, will he

Bucks Saint Posted 7 March, 2015 Posted 7 March, 2015 he wont be going anywhere, will he We can hope. Will have been noticed by those couple of clubs who might just be slightly bigger than Spurs
gr00031 Posted 7 March, 2015 Posted 7 March, 2015 Not completely sure why I listened to the whole of that song... But it was terrible
tajjuk Posted 8 March, 2015 Posted 8 March, 2015 The delusion that Spurs aren't a step up from us will never die. lol really a delusion? think you are the deluded one, Spurs as it currently stands is a sideways move, I mean they are one point above us for a start, they wont get champions league, not this year nor the next, nor many after not realistically, their best players will move to Man Utd, Chelsea, Man City etc just like ours and they have done f*ck all for 50 years. Plus I doubt they can pay much more than we can these days either. So doubt any of our players would agitate to move to Spurs. Chelsea, Liverpool, Man Utd, Arsenal, Man City yes, these clubs are much bigger than us, but they are also much bigger than Spurs. Players want to play in the Champions League, challenge for titles, get paid 100k a week and play in front of big crowds in big matches. Spurs offers none of that, over us they offer London, Europa league and probably 20k a week extra. OMG such a step up!
Roboze Posted 8 March, 2015 Posted 8 March, 2015 i do agree with you but that 20k a week is still a sweet mill a year before taxes, that would get me thinking!

whelk Posted 8 March, 2015 Posted 8 March, 2015 So tell us who would we want from the YIDS??? apart from Kane they have no one.........go on tell us Adebayor and Soldado. If anyone can get them back to goal scoring form RK can.
