After being so close to our best ever finish in the premiership surely koeman knows pelle and long aren't going to score anywhere near enough for us to compete with the top six? Why let a chance we may ever get again fall through our hands for not organising a decent strike force

Transfer window is closed, loans not allowed. Out of contract players are still possible, but its not allowed for discussion here unless you can personally name the player, the forum Gods accept that he is good enough and you have a personal written assurance of their availability to join from the player and his great grandparents.

It's Premier League. How do so many people continue to get it wrong?!

Sorry - just a bugbear of mine.

But as stated, not currently allowed to bring in any loans. Free transfers maybe...? But then not gonna be anyone available!

Let's hope Pelle regains his early season goal scoring prowess asap.

Other than getting the name of the league wrong, getting the rules around signing players wrong and not suggesting anyone good enough to get in our team that a club would loan out should it be allowed it was an excellent OP.

The transfer window (for both transfers and incoming loans) for Premier League sides closed on 2nd February 2015.

We can still sign free transfers, like West Ham did with Nene.

Where is the insistence coming from that identifying an issue with depth means you must also name a player who will join? And who on earth on here has any idea whether or not they are good enough for us?

In January we signed a player who couldn't get into the Mainz team and another with perceived attitude problems who couldn't get in Werder Bremen's team. They are 12th and 9th respectively in the Bundesliga. I'd say there are plenty of strikers out there that we could have taken a punt on in a loan deal.

If we did sign a striker in January, who do you then leave out of the match day squad to make way for them? Shane Long? Are Saints really in a position where they can leave a £12m player, on big wages, who is fit... not even in the match day 18?

If he isn't good enough, yes. Also we've got two players who fit that exact criteria out on loan. And I wouldn't have signed Djuricic either, which means Long would have no problem getting on the bench.

Why not? I think he's looked good in his brief appearances so far. He may well end up signing for us in the summer.

I think he has shown glimpses of quality but that our squad would be better balanced and better placed for the next 10 games had we signed a striker rather than another player to compete with six others for three roles.

Isn't it the Barclays Premier League?

Isn't it the Barclays Premier League?

It's the Premier League, which currently happens to be sponsored by Barclays. Just like it was still the Premier League when it was sponsored by Carling and called the FA Carling Premiership. And for that matter the one season when it was called the Barclaycard Premiership.

If you call it the Premier League you literally cannot be wrong. It did used to be called the FA Premier League, prior to the Carling and Barclaycard sponsorships, but the FA part got the boot in 2007 along with the ~ship part of the name.

He looks reasonably decent, but we have depth in those positions. It was pretty obvious we could've done with another player. Longs cost is pretty redundant as if he isnt performing then he should be replaced. For arhuements sake Id drop Pellè if we had adequate replacements tbh.

Im not going to slam the club for not getting anyone in however, as Im sure they were aware of the issue and realistically I couldnt name anyone achieveable for us to sign in the Jan window.

As for the loan and who to loan. Firstly I cant believe people still get the rules wrong amd finally, in response to LLL, I think its relevant asking 'who' we could loan is, as it shows the lack of obvious options out there.

Theoretically if we have space in the squad list (I haven't checked, and that's the main bit) and there's an out-of-contract player available who hasn't already played for 2 other teams this season we could sign someone. But it couldn't be a loan, because the transfer window is closed and Prem sides aren't allowed to loan players in outside the TWs.

But I'm pretty sure the kind of players we WANT are not the kind who are still out of contract in March.

Nene, who West Ham signed in February, was a 33 year-old out of contract player who'd previously been in playing in Qatar.

Here's the Feb 2015 Squad List anyway: http://www.premierleague.com/content/dam/premierleague/site-content/News/publications/squad-lists/premier-league-squad-lists-january-2015.pdf

Only 20 players over the age of 21 named. Only 12 non-home grown and we can have 17 of those too. So we've got 5 slots to sign out of contract players that no-one else wants, actually. Just not LOANS. :D

We've named 41 under 21s though, not that we need to.

Oh, and they've still got Rodriguez's middle name wrong.
