It is quite a thing when a footballer who you grew up hearing about as a kid passes away. Time rolls on.

I remember seeing him play at White Hart Lane in the 60s at the end of his career. 'Old barrel-chestie' I think they called him, but what a great character he was. He dominated the midfield.

Spot on Whitey. Players of today have got athletic quality and technical ability but back in the 60s and 70s we had true characters. Players like Mackay could play but they could also run through brick walls. The players of today may think they are tough but back then all players were hard as nails. Even "flair" players like George Best and Rod Marsh would kick lumps out of defenders and trade punches. It was a mans game then. We have a bunch of very talented players now but they really are a bunch of wusses.
