Turkish Posted 26 February, 2015 Share Posted 26 February, 2015 4 years ago today that he died. Very sad for one so young. A great player for us and a great signing on a free transfer. Would have surely been an England regular if he'd played today. As it was played in and era where we had a number of class centre halves Gone but not forgotten. Colinjb Posted 26 February, 2015 Share Posted 26 February, 2015 4 years already. Always tragic when talent and potential are destroyed through no fault of the individual.
OttawaSaint Posted 26 February, 2015 Share Posted 26 February, 2015 Remember seeing him live up at Sunderland (I was a Newcastle Uni). Never seen a defender track the ball and anticipate as well as he did, sheer class. He scored a great late header for us that day, finished 2-2 after Jo Tessem somehow shot wide from 10 yards in stoppage time. RIP Deano

Noodles34 Posted 27 February, 2015 Share Posted 27 February, 2015 And no match recognition, not one of Cortese's greatest days. But we get one for Gary Speed who has no connection and decided to die himself.

bpsaint Posted 27 February, 2015 Share Posted 27 February, 2015 And no match recognition, not one of Cortese's greatest days. But we get one for Gary Speed who has no connection and decided to die himself. This annoyed me too, espically as we had a home match the same day his passing was announced. I know we have our 'All Saints Day' each year but some i.e. Deano, Ron Davies, deserve a tribute of their own. It was only a mere 10 years since Deano led the first ever Saints team out at SMS until his untimely death, very sad. Thought the tribute Sky did at the Wolves match shortly after very fitting. Right up there with Killer for me as one of the best CB's I've personally seen in the red and white.
a1ex2001 Posted 27 February, 2015 Share Posted 27 February, 2015 Quality player and our best free signing by miles! Was gutted when he left and stunned when he passed away. RIP
davefizzy14 Posted 28 February, 2015 Share Posted 28 February, 2015 Remember we signed Deano on a bosman free, absolute snip that was. Was a rock at the back for us and scored sone important headers, most notably against Sunderland. RIP Deano.
