Do you really think he'd have signed a new contract if he had not got injured?

And do you think the club would have offered him one if he had not recovered?

Posted
When Saints refused to sell Schneiderlin he still had 3 years left on his contract which gave them some leeway, Clyne only has a year and his value is dropping quickly the closer it gets to the summer of 2016 when it expires. There is a big difference between the two situations.

You are looking at it just from the clubs perspective. It takes two to tango. The club might want to sell if he doesn't want to sign a new contract, which is probably the most likely outcome, but this only will happen if both parties are in agreement. It is a sad indictment that it is now taken that contracts are more than worthless, and that is a surprise when clubs or players actually stick to the agreement that was struck. Bit like Adenayor with Spurs. They may well want to sell him to get him off the wages, but he ain't going any where unless he can get his near £170k a week wages.

He would be a terrific addition, which I'm assuming would be a loan if it did happen. Very talented, but hasn't seen much game-time at Utd last season for one reason or another (poss had a few injuries)

Why is this on the Clyne thread by the way??

I am under the impression that he will be coming this way ...... But only if Clyne goes the other.

Is that a loan, or some sort of exchange job? Wouldn't imagine we'd get much for Clyne if that was the case. We should look at Rafael as an exchange if that's an open possibility.

Bruce Grobbelaar in the foreground perusing the menu............ Maybe there is a look-a-likes weekender on the the Isle of Wight.

Maybe Veho All Stars against Celebrity/Ex-Saints XI at SMS on Sunday? Perhaps MLT has persuaded Adnan to play for him.

I don't claim to actually know anything other than Januzaj is in southampton for some reason and my Man Utd (pah) mate is convinced Januzaj is coming here on loan as a sweetner for Clyne going there

People need to remember that Utd still owe us something like 15m for Shaw.

Perhaps this is a deal to wipe the slate clean?

£15m would be a lot for a player who hasn't really proven anything yet and could quite easily be the next Luke Chadwick or Chris Eagles. I'd expect a loan if he did come here as I doubt we would pay what Utd might accept.

If I had to write something quick to keep thousands of annoying people happy AND also had to write something to put on my identity details like passport and driving license I'm pretty sure I'd use two different signatures...

Guys, the guy in the picture is not Adnan Zanuzaj. It's my mate. Both out for dinner with our GF's and the waiter said 'Table 51 think you are Januzaj' we told them no, but a guy in a pink polo asked for a picture anyway. Quite funny and we had a joke with a fake signature as we left. We are both ST holders so don't want people getting worked up/wrong end of the stick. Didn't realise this is how the internet worked!!! Funny thing is my mate has is English with a Hampshire accent.

After all the posts during january insisting he was 100% off, was manipulating his recovery to get a better deal, was not ever going to sign, etc, etc, I thought these questions might stop

Is your mate also Nathaniel Clyne? Does he know what's happening there?

Most footballers and celebs use two signatures; one for signing autographs (which is normally an undecipherable squiggle of a pen on a scrap of paper) and their official 'real' signature, which they use for signing documents.

The things I've seen Clyne say (privately) over the past week makes me glad he's leaving. Good riddance. Billy big boots, mercenary footballer. No loyalty or allegiance to the club.

Don't think this has been posted, but it seems as if the club have fed a little bit of info to the echo

So basically the club want him to stay, the club have offered the best contract they can to make him stay. However if Clyne wants to go to Liverpool the club want 20 million but will most likely settle for 15 million due to his contract being in its last year. the whole issue comes down to whether Clyne fancies Liverpool or not.

Pretty much how people thought it would play out.

Sounds like the usual scenario with Saints outgoings actually, "We did our bestest to keep him but he wanted more money so we let him go." Thanks for all the money though.

No great loss, not a key player who can't be replaced for less.

the club wants 20m but will take 15 when reminded that clyne's contract is running down, because they had completely forgotten about that. they feel a bit foolish for having asked for 20m in the first place.

Where have SFC said they want £20m for Clyne? This is what the reporter is saying. Koeman has said he expects Clyne to sign for us. I'd listen to Koeman rather than to newspapers.

If Clyne intended signing for us then he probably would have done so by now, Saints have publicly said he had a ten day deadline, which I think expired before the last match of the season, yet we are still 'hopeful' etc. Nothing wrong with that but realistically I think he has one foot out of the door, and will only sign for us if his dream move doesn't materialise.

Not really. Unless he'd already decided is head was in Liverpool, you would expect Clyne to wait to see if we can provide European football for him in the same competition as he would get if he moved to the scousers. He then makes a decision with full information. Also by delaying he's raising his chances of getting a bigger wage packet.

Plus didn't Koeman say that the deadline was not related to him signing a contract but sorting out agent issues - i.e. he was changing to Ryan Bertrand's agent.
