Hope it won't be a part-ex with Glen Johnson... :scared:

The positive is that he's out of contract, so can't be included in a part-ex officially.

Surely we'll keep on rejecting them incase another club comes in with more. He's good enough for that to happen, and if they don't we get to keep him unless he throws his toys out of the pram.

Hang on I thought that your sources had told you it was pretty much definate he would sign a new contract?

Oh well. He was good for the first half the season then he was poor. Just like another defender we sold to them...

He was still better than 90% of the right backs we faced last season though. Good defensively and going forward and also rarely injured.

All-round strange do all this:

Lots of ITKs saying definite done deal with Man Utd.

Then Reed and Koeman publicly saying they're confident he'll sign an extension.

Then nothing.

Now looks like he'll be going to Liverpool.

Strange one.

Wait and see Charlie. It hasn't gone wrong yet. We can be depressed after event not before.

He never said that. He just said based on the available evidence he thought he would stay. Which, as of this morning, was a fair assumption.

Never said such a thing. I was actually crediting K,Billy who did say ''Clyne staying''. And he's pretty respectable.

I doubt we'd keep him if he doesn't sign a new deal or his contract will run down in June 2016.

No need to be depressed at all either way. The post you quoted simply said that despite his drop in form Clyne was still better than many right backs we faced last season. A great signing for someone, hopefully Saints.

I can assure you we will not accept any deal from Liverpool unless it suits us.

Do you honestly think Reed is going to accept anything less than 20m?

not a chance.

Clyne either runs down his contract or he signs the deal sat on the table at £** a week.

tick tock...!!!

Does an offer that low even warrant an official rejection?

We should put in a £15m bid for Coutinho just for a laugh and a massive f*ck you to Brendan

Posted

Liverpool really? oh well that will be another promising career ****ed up by Brenda then. I was resigned to Clyne leaving but I thought it would be for a top four team. If he leaves for Liverpool he can hardly play the ambition card it must be purely about wages.

If he doesn't want to sign a new contract then sell him for 15 million. A very good one on one defender but his attacking game is poor. Gets into good positions and final ball is consistently average. Just like Shaw

Utter tosh.

This is not a problem... How has that Leeds right-back been playing this season ? He's only 21 I think and we have been linked before.

Can't agree with any of that

He's tailed off the last part of the season fair point but in no way is he average

How much are they asking for Sterling, tell them we want the same as they are both England Internationals with 2 years left on thier contract.

I'd find this one hard to stomach. I'd rather sell we to Man U for a cut-price, such is my disdain for Rogers. I really hope the club offer some resistance here. One thing I will say though, that interview he gave (was published) yesterday...is it possible that it took place *after* this bid? (i.e. he's inclined towards staying even after this 'offer'). Presumably this bid didn't take place last night.

3 assists in 2 seasons suggests it isn't. His crossing is average

In Clyne's defence (something I'll likely come to regret :uhoh:), he played far deeper over the second half of the season. Whether this was tactical (i.e. Koeman's instruction) or a lack of effort, who can say, but it's probably reflected in this assist tally for this season. That doesn't absolve him of his poor (floated) crossing at times though. Furthermore, any player crossing the ball would've found it hard to assist with second half of the season Pelle shuffling around in the box.

But in the first half he didn't get anyway. Compare it to Bertrand, who I assume got 4 or 5.

It should not be hard to get assists when crossing to a 6 foot 5 striker.

Well, you could claim that he assisted away at West Ham for starters. And he did score 2 goals during that same period (first half of the season). For comparison, Bertrand has 2-3 assists (for the season), depending on your source.

Tomorrow is the big day, if we qualify for Europa League think he will stay. Cannot see him going to Liverpool, prefers life down south.

is this where we now go on about how not so good he is etc

Seems so. Me, I want him to stay and think he is good.

BUT

I wonder looking at his performances whether he was more effective last season than this, or whether the performances at the beginning of this season were better than those at the end (after the contract deadline was given and speculation about going to Utd surfaced)? I still recall him being dropped - not for any injury, so wonder whether his head might not be elsewhere. He is of course entitled to do as he likes with regards his contract. If he doesn't want to sign an extension, so be it. If he wants to see his contract out and leave on a free, so be it.

No, it's the bit where you accept he isn't the greatest right back in the world and does in fact have a few weaknesses in his game. He's a fantastic defender, excellent in a one on one battle, and he has great acceleration to help him recover from any mistakes. But his attacking play, which is pretty important in the modern game for a full back, is average. The stats support that view I have of him and I think 15 million plus when he has just 1 year left would be great business, just as I think 30 million for Shaw who has very similar weaknesses to Clyne, although young enough and with the potential to improve his attacking play, was also a great deal

Posted

While I don't claim to be a tactical expert, I always thought that Clyne was more effective when he used his pace to get to the line before putting in the cross. This year, he seemed to cut inside a lot more and was less effective except for those rare instances when he got a good shot off by cutting inside. Is my observation valid?

Clyne to Rickie Lambert 'What's it like playing for Liverpool?'

Rickie '****, that's why I'm off to Villa next week.'

Clyne 'What about Adam, he must love it?'

Rickie 'No idea as his head is so far wedged up his own arse.'

Going into full downplay mode:

Clyne is a good player but not top 4 quality. If he wants to go and bench warm somewhere that's up to him. I'm not bothered as we will sign someone as good (if not better) for about £2M (someone from abroad probably) and still have loads of money left to sign 6 strikers and a back-up GK.
