Sell player with handful of caps for 15th ranked country, replace with younger player with similar number of caps but for 7th ranked country....with about £8m profit.... The way our club is likely to continue.

Doesn't sound disaster.

Soares is better than Clyne. Use the money to get Toby and we have had a result. Clyne barely set the world alight in the second half of the season.

It's been brought up on the Toby thread, and has been alluded to above by saying he's only getting Europa League football, and it's no better than here.

Have you seen the posts about this being a fire sale?

You cant keep gambling like that otherwise you will end up like Newcastle, Villa and teams like Wolves and Leeds who sold for a good price and replaced with cheap untried foreigners.

I had an inkling that the club knew he was off, when we came out of nowhere and grabbed the Soares deal. He was a Stoke player until the 11th hour, and it was completed quite swiftly. I think the club knew about his wishes then. Why at this moment in time he wants to go there is quite odd. He'd have been better off holding out for a bigger club to come in for him, as I can see the likes of City, Chelsea looking for new RB's next season.

Based on how Rogers sets his teams up and how they defend as a unit, then you just get a feeling he's going to be hung out to dry there. Whatever though., the club did what they could. We march on etc etc.

Now we can slate him and pick out his weaknesses, I'll go first.

Clyne didn't get one assist for us last season.

totally one footed.

Can't cross and gets beaten at far post for headers because of his lack of height ;). Soares is much better even though I've never seen him play.

never ever expected him to stay....and to be honest i dont expect any of our good players to stay more than a couple of seasons. As soon as a bigger club come sniffing it is inevitable they will be off....money talks...end of discussion really.

I will save my angst till after he has left to join the red slime.

WE want all the money up from Brenda, none of these add ons

I thought we were due to get add ons for Rickies transfer all the press experts. The reason we are not getting them are down to the fact Rodgers left him on the bench

Clynie I hope you have an insulated track suit you will need it during those cold winter months hogging the bench

He's clearly not going to be on the bench. He's first choice, week in week out for them.

Surely it would only be a gamble if we were flogging these players against their will? As it is every single one of them that's left (or going to leave) in the last two seasons couldn't wait to go elsewhere. It's not the club at fault here just the way modern football works.

Pretty sure we said the same about Lallana and Lovern TBH. Didn't seem like Brenda or the pool fans where very patient or forgiving last season.

Lallana was hamstrung with injury. Lovren couldn't have imagined being so ****, he was bought as first choice. But they had players behind him.

I don't think they have another right back? unless Rogers wants to be a tactical genius once more and play Can there.

I've long been resigned to him leaving. Just disappointing that it had to be Liverpool - shows a lack of ambition and prioritising wages above development as a player imo.

Oh well. His loss more than ours.

We agreed a deal with Palace before it went to tribunal. It was rumoured to include a 20% sell on fee.

You sure you're not thinking of Davis? I'm pretty sure Clyne went to tribunal.

Better chances at international level?

I actually disagree with you on that point as they have all played international football while playing for Saints.

Lallana, Shaw, Lambert and Chambers are not playing for England more after leaving us?

Chambers didn't play for England with us.

I can't speak to Leeds, but in the last several years neither Newcastle nor Villa did anything that resembled replacing the players they lost even with cheap untried foreigners. Also, cheap untried foreigner is not really fair description of the players we have found so far to replace our departing players.

Well, it's disappointing but at the end of the day he is joining a club that finished second only one year ago.

We all need to pray that Cedric proves to be an excellent replacement.

Wasn't Rogers initially celebrated as the inventor of the Premier League high-press?

I will not be sad to see Clyne go. He's a very good right back as we've seen but he's not irreplaceable, and he did have a Lovren-esque half good season last year. The season before he was made to fight for his place with Chambers, and that upped his game, whereas last season I think he got a little bit content in the knowledge he was our only specialist right back.

£12.5 is not bad business for a player with one left on his contract, especially if he's said something to the board about wanting to join them. Get rid. We have Soares and I'm assuming are looking for another young right back as cover (Byram?) as I think I read on here we were after 2 right backs. Failing that get Toby back in and have him filling in when needed as he did last season. I'd rather get Clyne and Morgan out now, before pre-season starts, than have them upsetting the apple cart in training.

As for Liverpool, well, the less said about them the better.

My thoughts but I would want all of the dosh - no add on ********.

More of Liverpools money making it's way to us and by proxy increases our global standing seeing as they are massively supported throughout the world. It's all good people, we know our place and working it well to our advantage.

I'm surprised Utd haven't entered the fray with Alves signing a new deal at Barca. If Clyne went to Old Trafford' date=' the Scousers would have to accept he'd joined a side bigger than them.[/quote']

From what I read, LVG bulked at his wage demands and the haggling over terms. So he told him to do one. And that's where we became more confident, for all of a couple of days. Until Liverpool raised their head above the parapet or shall we say, Rogers raised his head above the staplewood perimeter bushes.

The new Luke Shaw.

Seriously though £12.5mill seems a bit cheap to me.

Sign for Saints, play well, get picked for England, get tapped up, head turned, sign for Liverpool.

I think the FA should investigate; two is a coincidence, three a conspiracy, four criminal

To be fair

Double your wages and play for one of the biggest clubs in the world, probably wouldnt take much tapping up or head turning.

I think quite of few are able to separate the emotional tug of SFC and see it for what it is with regards for the player. I don't think that anyone in their right mind in whatever field they are employed in would baulk at new challenge along with a substantial pay hike. It's the way of the world. I don't want to patronise but but fair play for coming on here again.

Apologies if that's not towing the party line but that's how I feel. If anyone doubts my credentials as a Saints fan I saw my first game against Leeds at the Dell aged 5 in October 1963 sat on my dad's shoulders on Archers Road. I saw Mick Channon make his league debut and Campbell Forsyth break his leg was at Wembley twice in 76 and again in 79. Maybe it's time to stop going on this site!

Sorry I don't know my Southampton history but was that three broken legs or two?

At least Clyne hasn't been spouting his gob off and making himself look like an utter ****.

He does, however, have an awful haircut. So there are similarities.
