Verbal Posted 6 April, 2015 Share Posted 6 April, 2015 Who has abused the disabled? I've proven the word has two meanings and is acceptable in the context I use it in. as I said above if I had called a person with Down's syndrome a mong (I wouldnt) then people would have a point. As for the rest of your post, completely made up nonsense as usual. Not even furious editing makes your post coherent. This is not about you calling someone who's disabled a 'mong'. It's about you calling anyone a name which to them would suggest you are saying they have the attributes of a disabled person. As for 'the rest of my post', it can't be nonsense because it was merely asking you questions - which you have signally failed to answer. So again: what terms of abuse are off the table for you? By your weirded-out logic, it's ok to call a white man a 'n**ger', a Chinese woman a 'Paki' and a South Asian a 'ting tong'. Is that it? So long as the person at whom your abuse is directed is not described by your term of abuse, it's ok? Good grief, the twists and turns you have to make to justify your absurdities. And all because your thin skin has been *****ed by an infraction. You poor soul.
NickG Posted 6 April, 2015 Share Posted 6 April, 2015 Nicholas as a father myself I have a huge amount of empathy for Angelmans situation. However as I have proven using a dictionary there are two means for the word, in the context I was using I was not calling anyone with Down's syndrome that word, if I had been then people would have a point. I was calling people who make stupid posts on a football forum slang for a a stupid person. Yet again people are in a rush to be offended and taking the moral high ground, being offended for others. If it's such an offensive word then why haven't they filtered it out? Why has it been used 16 times on other threads since I was infracted for it and not a single other person who used it been infracted? Why does this very forum have an emoticon for 'spaz' which I am also told carries offensive connotations, is that not also offensive to the disabled, or is that word perfectly acceptable? Credited you with being able to follow a mature reasoned view. I gave you the benefit of the doubt if you want to stand by your "proof" as a reason that you used it in the passed. However, you have now been told why it is offensive to people and asked not to use it. You may have found some history of the word with one meaning but many here know it as an insult to the disabled, so now knowing the words history, and it does upset people effected by its deeper meaning continued use would be low. I agree about "spaz"

No I'm not, I'm saying they have the attributes of a stupid or foolish person, as per the dictionary definition I previously linked. As a evidently intelligent man I'm surprised you struggle to comprehend this. As for you the rest of post and to answer your question, again nonsense, who on earth would call a Chinese person a Paki, for example? Perhaps you can provide a link to a dictionary where one of the definitions of paki is a Chinese woman? Edited 6 April, 2015 by Turkish
pap Posted 6 April, 2015 Share Posted 6 April, 2015 Verbal creating bizarre strawman universes where no-one can get a racial insult on the mark and yet, inexplicably, demanding answers to his questions. Lovely stuff.

You're not crediting me with anything pal and I haven't stumbled across some history that it means something different like you imply. the dictionary definition of Mong in the context I use it is stupid or foolish person, this is FACT. It's not my fault people have decided to be offended by it, if they think it means something else which is far more offensive and It's also not my fault people don't understand the English language. pap Posted 6 April, 2015 Share Posted 6 April, 2015 The only way that word, or any word, offends you is if you let it. There's a separate debate to be had about whether a debate where the label "mong" is bunged about is really a debate, but in general, getting upset about this sort of stuff is a failure in your own filters. And yes, I've read angelman's account and I thank him for sharing a perspective, but equally, I have never got the sense that Turkish was trying to equate the word with people with Down's Syndrome. It's all about context; part of it is Turkish constantly trying to re-pitch SaintsWeb as something as less serious than it is by continually labelling the entire enterprise a "mongboard", probably brought on by nerds like meself infesting the place with our polysyllables and suchlike. The irony now is that he would like us to treat this topic seriously, despite it all being a mongboard and not a very serious place. Same deal on the ol' racism threads that frequently pop up. Treat it seriously! Please! The overall context is a dog chasing its tail. Yap yap. Mongboard. Yap yap. My freedom of speech is being curtailed. Yap yap. Mongboard. How can anyone possibly be offended by that?

trousers Posted 6 April, 2015 Share Posted 6 April, 2015 http://www.collinsdictionary.com/dictionary/english/mong People should do their research before being offended. Why does the Collins Dictionary state that the slang word 'mong' is offensive but the not the slang word 'tw*t', for example? Surely they're both equally offensive words? If not, why not? Just curious.

Because there is no justifiable reason to use the word "Mong" in any situation, however there are times when use of the word "tw4t" is absolutely correct. eg people who try to justify the use of the word "mong" are tw4ts

Isn't **** sexist? It's also the word used as slang for the female genatalia. Are suggesting that a vagina is stupid? Turkish Posted 6 April, 2015 Share Posted 6 April, 2015 You boring f*cking c*nt. Unlike your self old chap. Everytime I see your name pop up on here I excitedly look to see what volley of abuse you've hurled at someone this time. I'm never disappointed. It's just a bit strange firstly that someone who doesn't even support saints would spend so much time on here blatantly abusing people and secondly how you've got away with it for so long. still some of the mods have for their hands full being offended by things that aren't offensive so no surprise they can't deal with you. One theory is that Ludwig isn't a real boy, and is a mere sock account for a regular poster that fancies having a pop without the comeback. There is some photographic evidence supporting this theory. Turkish Posted 6 April, 2015 Share Posted 6 April, 2015 (edited) Nah, you could easily substitute 'tw4t' with 'cock' or 'pr1ck' to describe someone who justifies the use of the word 'mong'. Why's that? I'm seeing lots of abuse and 'but it's offensive!' Hysteria. But no actual explaination as to why calling someone a word that means a stupid or foolish person is so offensive. Big Bad Bob Posted 6 April, 2015 Share Posted 6 April, 2015 (edited) http://www.collinsdictionary.com/dictionary/english/mong People should do their research before being offended. Word origin :- a shortening of mongol (note the small m) And a mongol according to the same dictionary! As I have previously said I have twin daughters with Downs and I am fully aware of the origin and meaning off the word. Personally I find Turkish's selective dictioneering amusing, if he'd bothered to look further, and I'm sure he has, he would definitely know the full extent of what he is doing. Does his constant use of the word bother me? Not in the slightest, it's designed to provoke a reaction and that it surely has. Maybe this should become the gayboard! According to the same Collins Turkish quotes it's not offensive! Edited 6 April, 2015 by Big Bad Bob
