eelpie Posted 23 February, 2015 Share Posted 23 February, 2015 (edited) Loaning a striker... is it too late? Most seem to agree that Pelle has been giving stalwart service this season, playing 90 minutes every match, but even Koeman admits he is looking jaded. He needs support, not criticism. Would it not be better to give him a rest to rejuvenate, at least on the bench for some of the 90 minutes? So is it not possible to still be able to import a loanee striker? What are the rules? Meanwhile I think it is worth starting with Long upfront with Mane behind. Pelle would be more effective coming off the bench in my opinion than being aked to last 90 minutes at present. But this is not meant to be another thread on Pelle, but to ask if there are any circumstances that we can at this late stage bring in another loanee striker? Saint_clark Posted 23 February, 2015 Share Posted 23 February, 2015 Loan window only applies to football league clubs IIRC.

We certainly can't obtain one on loan, if we could find an out of contract player capable of scoring in the PL (yeah right) then if we have space in our 25 man list it would I think be possible. Anelka? The "best" of a very rough bunch of currently unattached strikers out there. Barrel scraping at its worst!

Even then it would depend on how many clubs he'd played for this UEFA season, I mean Ben Arfa is out of contract but he can't play anywhere in Europe because he's played for Newcastle U21s and Hull already. DuncanRG Posted 23 February, 2015 Share Posted 23 February, 2015 Which is more likely - that Pelle will regain his form against some of the Premier League's lesser teams over the next few games, or a player will come into a new team/league and immediately start scoring goals for fun? It may be true that we need another option on the bench to play alone up front but that doesn't mean we have to panic and do it right now, even if we could. Elia didn't do too bad his first few games to be fair. And I can't help but feel that a part of Pelle's problem is that he's been playing the full game for the vast majority of our season and he looks absolutely shattered. So not sure it is just a matter of form - he is just fatigued and needs a rest.

Would be an interesting gamble! Can't say I'd mind seeing him come on for the last 15 minutes if we needed a goal he's always known where the goal is! Black Sea Saint Posted 23 February, 2015 Share Posted 23 February, 2015 Anelka?? Have we all forgotten the bellend goal celebration for West Brom. I wouldn't want him anywhere near our team. We don't need a loan striker we just need to vary the system. We have proven goal scorers in the team - Mane, Long and Pelle. We just need to work on the quality in the final third. We had a similar problem under Pochettino.

So not sure it is just a matter of form - he is just fatigued and needs a rest. This is the nub of the problem. Fatigue. Every other team member, except the magnificent Clyne (has he missed any games?) has for various reasons been able to 'rest'. I reckon Pelle would benefit coming off the bench for the last half hour when he could put everything into going for goals (he has had the bad luck to hit the posts enough) and not have to pace himself to last 90 minutes. We do have options in Long, Mane, Elia and Djuricic now, if there is no suitable striker out-of-contract out there.
