hasper57saint Posted 24 February, 2015 Share Posted 24 February, 2015 I see from the Match Schedules that we have Phil Dowd as Ref on Saturday. He's based in Stoke and also figures in the West Midlands FA. Can we hope that he's going to go by the rules rather than (as someone recently said) Ref us out of the top four? PS. Google Kevin Friend and look at the 'criticisms' it certainly ain't just us who have suffered from his incompetence. PPS. Brendan Rogers is the biggest 'clagtail' in the Prem. Saint Fan CaM Posted 25 February, 2015 Share Posted 25 February, 2015 WBA will set-up to play a tight ship and hit us on the break. 10 men behind the ball and all that. It'll be another 0-0 or even a 1-0 loss. Seriously, we just don't look like scoring at the moment as (a) the front line is not cohesive and (b) we seem to want to walk the ball into the net. Add to that a sh!t ref and hey presto, another wasted game and opportunity as we slip another place or two down the table. Yes, that is a pessimistic view I guess - or it could be just good observation of how the team has performed over the last 10 or so games.
OttawaSaint Posted 25 February, 2015 Share Posted 25 February, 2015 We need to I implement some sort of shoot on sight policy and have other attacking players following those shots in for rebounds. All our forwards seem to be faffing around with ot, trying to make extra sure. They need to put their laces through it before the opening is closed down. West Brom in the form they're in and at home may give it a go and not park the bus. Even if they do park the bus, seeing the last 4 games and how teams have set up against up and had success, I'm sure koeman will tweak the system to brake down teams that sit back and hit us on the break. CeeBee Posted 25 February, 2015 Share Posted 25 February, 2015 How are we going to score? We need to go forward not sideways or backwards. All the top teams move the ball quickly when they get near the penalty area. Incisive movement is what breaks down defences, not playing back towards our own goal. Bring on Long to lead the line. He is quicker than Pelle and more likely to break down a defence.
SuperMikey Posted 25 February, 2015 Share Posted 25 February, 2015 -------------FORSTER-------------- -----TOBY----FONTE----YOSHI----- CLYNE-----------------------B'RAND --------MORGAN---WANYAMA------- --------------DAVIS---------------- ---------LONG------PELLE---------- Subs: K.Davis, Targett, Gardos, JWP, Tadic, Elia, Mane I would be tempted to start Mane over long, but WBA have 2 very dominant CBs who will have the upper hand over Pelle if we start with Mane, who plays off Pelle a little more than Long does when he's up front with him. Long should be able to stretch their defence and create space for Pelle to get time on the ball which he hasn't had recently. Mane will be a very good option to come off the bench if we need to change our shape a little and go 4-3-3 with either Toby/Maya coming off. Reckon we'll see Davis start and either Tadic/JWP come on for him if we're not leading after an hour to provide a bit more creativity behind the strikers. Either way, it's a must-win to get our confidence back, and hopefully Pelle can get a goal to give him a confidence boost which is desperately needed! Full backs give us the width and not only get forward but look to get forward quickly. Wanyama/Schneiderlin drop in to cover if we get caught with one/both full backs forward. I much prefer this than playing 4 at the back.

SaintTex Posted 26 February, 2015 Share Posted 26 February, 2015 ------------------Forster ---------------- Clyne--Fonte--Alderweireld--Bertrand -----Wanyama ------Schneiderlin------ ----------------Djuricic------------------ Mane ---------- Pelle -------------Tadic 01) against West Brom you go with 4 defensive backs... but Clyne and Bertand can still be aggressive defensive wingers effective offensively on the wings. I think you burn an offensive player you need up front, if you play 3 DF (alderweireld, fonte, yoshida) and also have Bertrand and Clyne on the pitch. 02) the no-brainer Wanyama and Schneiderlin pairing as DMs 02) you put Djuricic as CAM, let him facilitate/distribute to Mane, Pelle, and Tadic. 03) you put Tadic on the left, where he played his best football with us. (Tadic and Bertrand play off each other on the left, Clyne and Mane play off each other on the right) 04) at the front 3 forward positions Mane, Pelle and Tadic can be switched with Long and Elia or any combination as the game situation warrants. Maybe the front 3 at some point is: Elia--Mane--Tadic or Elia--Long--Mane or Elia--Pelle--Tadic 05) Reed or Davis can relieve Schneiderlin or Wanyama as required. 06) I hesitate to suggest JWP could be flipped easily with Djuricic, but JWP has shown a nice touch on through ball passes and his set piece ability is the best we got. He just needs to be more aggressive and assert himself. anyway, just a few thoughts.

Since the start of the 2013/14 season, that's a decent amount of games but still slightly below average, even for nonintermationals (all competitions). The other possibility is that we rushed him back too soon after his initial injury.

igsey Posted 26 February, 2015 Share Posted 26 February, 2015 Koeman's press conference: - Toby close to being back but not for this weekend; should be fit for Tuesday. - JRod and Mayuka also still out. - We played well against Liverpool, deserved more than we got; need to be more effective. - Doesn't think fixture list is easy with teams playing for Europe and to avoid relegation; every game is winnable, every game is loseable. - Still aiming for top four but accepts that other teams have better players and squads. - Mane has served his punishment for being late; he understood and accepted his punishment. - WBA are organised and hard to score against; they don't score or conceede many. - Ball possession is not important; it's what you do with it. - Aware of WBA's set piece quality. - No comments on Brenda's criticism. - Thinks Qatar 2022 is a problem for the PL - terrible dodgy YouTube stream then cut out. (From Twitter henceforth) - We need more sharpness in the box; our goalscoring problems are a team issue, not just one player. - Koeman is not worried about lack of goals and chances. Don't bother going back to watch the video of that press conference - sound quality was awful.
