Asaint4ever Posted 22 February, 2015 Share Posted 22 February, 2015 Just wanna mention how class this player is! He really has come on this season, and today he was brilliant. I see in the other thread on best starting 11 I see people are dropping him already? Sorry but he's in my 1st 11. He is also incrediblely good in the air. What's your thoughts ? beatlesaint Posted 22 February, 2015 Share Posted 22 February, 2015 Has had a very good season and will probably be a first choice next season if Toby does move on to bigger things.
SaintSteve Posted 22 February, 2015 Share Posted 22 February, 2015 He was certainly a class act today and has improved under Koeman no doubt.. I would return to 352 with Fonte, Yoshida and Alderwiereld plus the wing backs.. we also score goals with that approach.

Yuki Posted 22 February, 2015 Share Posted 22 February, 2015 He will never let you down and always shows his qualities and calmness in a sea of surging water. Next step: Southampton FC to take advantage of the legacy he has created the club in Japan.
Forester Posted 22 February, 2015 Share Posted 22 February, 2015 Absolutely agree. His progress is startling, and we should remember he is a good few years younger than Fonte and look how good he has become. A proper old fashioned pro, hard as nails
Monk Posted 22 February, 2015 Share Posted 22 February, 2015 Hold my hands up, four months ago I along with other criticized him heavily. He really has stepped up and pushed on.
ART Posted 22 February, 2015 Share Posted 22 February, 2015 Yoshida has been amazing and had we played Gardos today and given Yoshida more freedom to get forward, I am certain we would not have lost. I am mocked, but at this moment in time, Yoshida would have done far better than Pelle leading the line. Nothing ventured, nothing gained!!! CityRanger Posted 22 February, 2015 Share Posted 22 February, 2015 Hold my hands up, four months ago I along with other criticized him heavily. He really has stepped up and pushed on. Me too. I thought he was awful and to be fair he used to make a lot of errors! This season he has not only cut out the errors but has become much more dominant and no longer hides or backs off. I wonder if it is RK who has changed his game or has he taken several seasons to adapt/develop?

sussexsaint Posted 23 February, 2015 Share Posted 23 February, 2015 That covering tackle on Sturridge was mustard. yes indeed, he has worked bloody hard to get back in the reckoning and I'm chuffed to bits he has a new contract
Faz Posted 23 February, 2015 Share Posted 23 February, 2015 I think we forget how (relatively) young he is. He is only 26 and has his best years as a centre back ahead of him. Not surprised he was offered a new contract.
austsaint Posted 23 February, 2015 Share Posted 23 February, 2015 A couple of changes I've noticed in Yoshida's game these days - his passing and distribution skills have improved markedly and he also seems more confident to burst forward with the ball looking to launch an attack. niceandfriendly Posted 23 February, 2015 Share Posted 23 February, 2015 He's been ridiculously good this season, and good on him. Wonder if Koeman has taught him a lot? Would make sense. He occasionally still has the odd "come on, he's not a footballer!!!!" moment, but overall he has been class.
S-Clarke Posted 23 February, 2015 Share Posted 23 February, 2015 He's gone up a level for sure, it must help playing alongside someone as good as Fonte though. The guy is a rolls Royce.

Unbelievable Jeff Posted 23 February, 2015 Share Posted 23 February, 2015 Yep, he's been excellent. In fact, I cannot really complain too much about our defence in the Prem this season, if players have been injured the players replacing have also played well. Been very impressed. Marino Posted 23 February, 2015 Share Posted 23 February, 2015 MOTM . Very quick too, happily dealt with that little toe-rag Sterling on a one to one chase in the first half
Chez Posted 23 February, 2015 Share Posted 23 February, 2015 I hold my hands up, I've slated him in the past, pointing to some woeful distribution and a lack of physicality (especially in the air) but he has played really well recently, getting tighter and making the ball his. His passing has also been much better too. Him and Fonte were excellent yesterday, keeping us in the game IMO. Their positional play and reading of the game was first class. Decent centre backs are hard to find, so if we can pin Toby down to a contract we are set for a few years, giving us a great platform for the rest of the team to keep improving. Deano6 Posted 23 February, 2015 Share Posted 23 February, 2015 Anyone else think he could be used up top as striker for us? I think he would look decent up there, and would give Pelle a much needed break.
berkshiresaint Posted 23 February, 2015 Share Posted 23 February, 2015 I think all of our defenders have improved immensly this season. It must have something to do with being coached on a daily basis by arguably the best defender there has ever been. Koeman will have even been able to make Jos look good. StMarv Posted 23 February, 2015 Share Posted 23 February, 2015 Among other highlights he beat Sterling in a one on one foot race yesterday then calmly laid it back to Forster. We should keep our admiration quite though otherwise that ***t Rodgers will be all over him.

Dellman Posted 23 February, 2015 Share Posted 23 February, 2015 He was so much better than Lovren and I get the feeling he wants to be here or why would he sign such a long contract? Maybe He recognises RK as a great defender to learn from, don't know what he would learn from that Lpool manager, did he ever play the game? Bearsy Posted 23 February, 2015 Share Posted 23 February, 2015 It was in the World Cup, Glasgow, don't you remember? They were chasing a game + they threw Yoshida up front. It was amazing! Redslo Posted 24 February, 2015 Share Posted 24 February, 2015 If we are going to do weird things, I vote for trying Schneiderlin as a striker. If it works, it will increase his sale price in the summer.

Turkish Posted 25 February, 2015 Share Posted 25 February, 2015 He's a decent player and he's been good this season but still not first choice for a top 8 club. Great to have around, reliable player but we will need to sign better if Tony underwood doesn't stay.
