9-3 Posted 21 February, 2015 Share Posted 21 February, 2015 I still see him attending all Saints home matches. He is Saints. Should the club honour him in some way? For me. yes big time.

St Chalet Posted 22 February, 2015 Share Posted 22 February, 2015 I grew up idolising the man. Subsequently his leaving to Sunderland and shenanigans around the boardroom have dimmed my view on him.

david in sweden Posted 26 February, 2015 Share Posted 26 February, 2015 (edited) I grew up idolising the man. Subsequently his leaving to Sunderland and shenanigans around the boardroom have dimmed my view on him. of course this left a bitter taste for many fans of the day, but when that sort (Sunderland) opportunity comes, it's difficult to say NO.... Hoddle was faced with the same situation, but it went pear-shaped for both of them, but nowadays we mostly remember the better times. There are still people on this site who have fond memories of Hoddle's (short) spell as manager, and compliment his footballing style which took us out of the turgid period when Dave Jones struggled with the task. Lawrie Mc Menemy's managerial career seems like the Hollywood plot for Rickie Lambert's playing career.....rejected youth player, Non League start, lower league success, etc, etc, Overall, we have had very little real success to look back on since 1976, I think it would be respectful to give some sort of honour to Lawrie, especially now that we have a Chairman who seems to show more respect for our history than the previous one did, and is willing to " repatriate " our former heroes....so why not? Club history has little meaning to some fans, but is a vital component in the memory of many (older) fans. How I wish Nicola Cortese had been more open to honouring Ron Davies ......when we had the chance.
