Why would they put in a bid now? Seems like it would be a massive gamble seeing as we could just as likely finish 8th as we are to finish 3rd; one giving a big return, the other not.

To be fair any takeover would take months, so by the time it was complete they'd know.

Just a friend...been correct before, been wrong before, hence why I'm asking of anyone has heard anything apart from him...

From whom did he hear about it?

Did he get this information from one of his sources that has been right before, or from one that has been wrong? Or possibly both.... :)

p.s. No, I've not heard anything but I'm just checking whether Paul Allen still has a 737 jet registered with Vulcan Inc.....

True, but you said a bid was put in. The value of the club will fluctuate a lot between now and any deal being completed. Whereas a bid put in June would make more sense. Anyway, I really hope it isn't true as Katrin has more than exceed everyone's expectations.

He never tells me who he heard things from, very secretive like that - knew more and was more accurate in during Cortese's reign though.

Not sure why you would want to buy a football club - FFP means you can't put a lot in, but then I guess with the TV money floating around, you sure can take some out.

Is he someone with contacts at the club then or a Joe Bloggs who heard it in the pub from other mates?

A mate of mine was at the Saints annual masquerade ball on Sunday that is for all staff of the club and he said the atmosphere was great and Katharina and Ralph were in attendance and were loving it, especially Ralph. I'd be surprised if they would up and leave now.

Stranger things have happened. Also worth noting that phase 3 of the staplewood development has been put on hold (look at me itk!) So could tie in. Although that could also be so that we can invest in the team for our european campaign ;)

That is to assume that no one is smarter than FIFA/FA

In relation to this I don't know, but he did have contacts at the club during Cortese's reign. As said, he's very secretive about it.

Either way, I am trying to corroborate what he has said by asking on here.

To be honest, anyone can come and put a bid in for the club, doesn't mean they want to sell. How much would we be worth in todays market with the TV money just announced? £150M? £300M? I have no idea.

Surely, you know how he might have contacts, though? For instance, does he work in media or finance that would bring him in contact with the club? Or perhaps he has his own business and uses hospitality alot? Etc etc.

I am aware of how he has contacts yes, but don't know who they are, if they're still at the club etc as I don't know who it is. I also don't know if this is the same source (i have asked but he hasn't replied yet).

EDIT: And when I hear 'consortium' I immediately think bad things. I don't know why. Has there ever been a successful 'consortium' takeover in football!?!

Wasn't there talk of this guy getting involved in a consortium? **welp** :scared:

The club must be worth upwards of £300m surely? You could recoup a tidy £55m (hopefully) of that by selling Morgan and Clyne. Not to mention the highly profitable youth academy, state of the art facilities and the ludicrous new TV deal...

Any reason why this has been put on hold?

I pass by Staplewood every day. The new pitches have been laid up as far as Twiggs Lane and they are erecting the lights and other stuff and doing the roadways. Doesn't look like it's on hold.

The next phase, not current works.

..how is this news?

Surely it is the natural continuation of the numerous well informed threads I have read on here for a year or so?

Well connected posters telling us how KL isn't interested, the club is for sale etc.

The next stage (and one we are still in) was the painful "firesale". The club selling off all the good players / assets, replacing with cheap inferior quality ones and we see our hopes disappear.

When last few saleable assets go (and I have read on here how we have even breached FA rules as have already sold Clyne and Schneiderlin) and we are as low as we can be (probably about 9th ;) ) KL will take her money and go.

So, we all knew this would happen....

(Apparently we may have second breach of rules as this is now the third time we have agreed to sell Schneiderlin whilst he continues to play for us)

What was the next phase to involve?

No idea but I will find out a few more details.

Didn't they talk about some of the plans during the staplewood unveiling a few months back?

Something about extending the main block for extra academy facilities or something? I can't remember, St Armstrong might, he did the tour didn't he?

Yes, I think it was something like replacing all the temporary buildings used by support staff with a purpose built 'village'.

The club can also today confirm that it has applied for planning permission to enhance the facilities on offer in the Markus Liebherr Pavilion.

A proposed two-story annex will house the Saints Academy’s education facilities, as well as a treatment room, sports laboratory and additional gym facilities, while construction of an inflatable dome over Staplewood’s 3G pitch is already under way.

Maybe the 'hold up' is simply a case of waiting for the aforementioned planning permission to be granted?

I'd imagine Newcastle, Villa and Everton will change hands before us.

That is to assume that no one is smarter than FIFA/FA

Villa is an interesting situation. They are (or should be) a huge club. Big stadium, big potential fan base, titles, cups etc. But they've been up for sale for an age now. Maybe the asking price is too high, but as many commentators say, it isn't a hugely attractive proposition given FFP rules. So while you have to be smarter than FIFA/FA I am not sure it's that simple otherwise surely Villa would have gone down that route.

Planning permission for the expansion to the pavilion was applied for on 22nd August 2014 and was granted on 27th November 2014.
