Mattio Posted 12 February, 2015 Share Posted 12 February, 2015 I've just been offered a job in Feltham and am now looking for a new place to live around London, ideally I'd like a nice enough area with some decent pubs etc around which is close to Central London but also not a massive rip off, can anyone recommend any areas? I was thinking Clapham area but I've no idea what that's like to live in/ if it's affordable.

Whatever you do, don't live in Feltham, the place is an utter tip.
buctootim Posted 12 February, 2015 Share Posted 12 February, 2015 Clapham is really expensive. Somewhere like Hampton is decent, close to Feltham and train station for access into central London.
Unbelievable Jeff Posted 12 February, 2015 Share Posted 12 February, 2015 (edited) Clapham is really expensive. Somewhere like Hampton is decent, close to Feltham and train station for access into central London. Hampton isn't particularly cheap, better off Sunbury if he's going to be on that line as well. Twickenham is on the faster line as well, and is a decent place. Need to know more about how he's going to get to work etc, then can give better advice. Also age etc would be useful. Mattio Posted 12 February, 2015 Author Share Posted 12 February, 2015 Sorry should have given a bit more info, I drive but I'd probably look at getting the train unless that rules out a lot of places? I'm mid twenties and I'd be renting.
Lets B Avenue Posted 12 February, 2015 Share Posted 12 February, 2015 Beware of dodgy dog-walkers round there. Especially oriental-looking ones.

If you're mid 20's you'll want to be towards London, so I'd probably recommend Putney... 20 minute train, nice area, decent amount of bars. Clapham would also be good, but Putney is probably cheaper now...

Putney has plenty going on, good links and close to central and a little cheaper.
Batman Posted 12 February, 2015 Share Posted 12 February, 2015 Putney is a nice part to live. Been around there a few times

Sour Mash Posted 12 February, 2015 Share Posted 12 February, 2015 Cheers for the advice, Putney looks like a good shout, I didn't consider there Plenty of choice on that train line; Wandsworth, Richmond, Barnes, all worth a look.
Unbelievable Jeff Posted 13 February, 2015 Share Posted 13 February, 2015 Plenty of choice on that train line; Wandsworth, Richmond, Barnes, all worth a look. For a lad in his mid twenties I reckon Richmond and certainly Barnes are a little sleepy and far out. Lovely places though, would love to live there. Torres Posted 13 February, 2015 Share Posted 13 February, 2015 Better train service to Feltham from Richmond than from Putney though and it's nicer and less full of ****s.

Equally good train service from both to be honest, both pretty quick. Hard to recommend anyway without knowing what the OP's budget is, how long he's happy on a train etc. Lots of pretty good places on that line though. Boring point of order - all trains between W'loo and Feltham stop at Richmond. They don't all stop at Putney. I suspect it will come down to budget, otherwise the OP wouldn't be asking and would have decided on Richmond already.
ben05 Posted 13 February, 2015 Share Posted 13 February, 2015 I currently live in Putney and have done for the past 18 months. I'm a big fan, perfect mix of leafy south west London and city life.

A fair percentage of Feltham to London trsins go on the Brentford route via Hounslow instead of Richmond. I'd recommend Isleworth for a more affordable option. Still near the river and easy journey to London
SOTONS EAST SIDE Posted 13 February, 2015 Share Posted 13 February, 2015 I work in Feltham, your should try Bedfont or Shepperton. They do have some nice area's.

Mattio Posted 14 February, 2015 Author Share Posted 14 February, 2015 Thanks for all the advice so far, Bedfont and Shepperton are a bit far out of the centre for me but I'll definitely take a look at all the other areas. I'll be looking at houseshares by the way, which gives me a little more money to play with rather than renting on my own.

No ****er ever wants to be on a train that uses the Hounslow loop

Elias Posted 18 February, 2015 Share Posted 18 February, 2015 I work in Feltham, used to live nearby too. Twickenham or Richmond are decent places and very well connected to Feltham. I wouldn't even think about Feltham, Bedfont or Hounslow, utter **** tips. Fast train to Waterloo is good and the line will take you to Windsor and Reading as well. Clapham is probably too far in to be affordable, Bus stops near Feltham station if your work is further out from the centre, it's a bit of a sprawling place.
