SuperSAINT Posted 12 February, 2015 Share Posted 12 February, 2015 Good news - He must be doing well at Swindon. Doesn't seem like long ago he signed his previous deal?
Badger Posted 12 February, 2015 Share Posted 12 February, 2015 Hope it works out for him. Wonder if we'll offer Jack Stephens a new contract, who is also on loan at Swindon, and a player their fans rate more highly.

Saint-Armstrong Posted 12 February, 2015 Author Share Posted 12 February, 2015 And? Doesn't mean he can't be offered a new deal too. Exactly. If Swindon go up this season (or even if they don't) it'd hardly be unreasonable for Stephens (and/or his agent) to have discussions.
S-Clarke Posted 12 February, 2015 Share Posted 12 February, 2015 He's having a storming time at Swindon it has to be said. They love him down there, calling him a class act with great technique (can play anywhere they say). Pleased for him, he was another one from the crop of Reed/JWP/Shaw, which again hasn't been a bad intake!
Ken Tone Posted 12 February, 2015 Share Posted 12 February, 2015 Interesting news. In the past a young Saints player going out on loan was a sign he had no great future at his home club. We have tended to blood our own promising young players and bring them through the ranks here, not send them out. But this implies that we still see Turnbull making it in our first team ...... quite a change of approach.

Much harder to blood a young CB in 1st team in PL, than a left/right back or midfielder. Putting the pair of them in a good footballing team like Swindon and them being first choice has given them the opportunity to gain valuable experience not just individually but as a pair, working together learning each other's game. I've seen them a few times now (on TV) and they are both very good at this level. Wouldn't surprise me if their loans continued next season especially if Swindon get promoted to Championship (which they should do either directly or via play-offs). The Club must see them as longer term, unlikely to push out Fonte, Yoshi or Florin (and hopefully Toby as well), but another year or so and they should be ready. Charlie Wayman Posted 12 February, 2015 Share Posted 12 February, 2015 If Toby signs a deal and with Fonte, Yoshida and Gardos all in good form and still relatively young, where's the space for Turnbull in the next 3/4 years even if we fancy holding on to him? Is it just because he's English and home grown whilst none of the others are and Les has lined him up for the England team?

I optimistically hope they will both be integral parts of the Saints team in years to come. Harlee Dean is doing very well at Brentford now after we converted him from a midfielder to a CB. He's still relatively young (23) and looks to have a decent career ahead of him.

Jordan and Jack (Stephens) have both progressed through the ranks to U21's very well and seem to be having a good season at Swindon. CB is always a difficult position to fill, but if these lads are the real thing, then they won't need time to " settle in " and will save us £20 million instead of sourcing some unknown hidden away in the " Black Box " OK ..yes.. its only L1.... but they have had a lot of game time in a tough division, but remembering the way that Shaw and Chambers and Targett appreared on the scene ..do you think these two lads ..can be worse?.....and if they come in alongside Fonte, Gardos or Yoshida.. then they have a good chance to establish themselves, and become (their) eventual replacements. SarniaSaint Posted 13 February, 2015 Share Posted 13 February, 2015 CB is a very difficult position to have young players especially in the Prem League....look at Stones at Everton. This is a great signing for the future and they re getting experience not just U21 league....... Cranie and Mills were mishandled by the club at least we are doing this the right way. True. And Lallana and Morgan played in League 1 to more than good effect.

krissyboy31 Posted 14 February, 2015 Share Posted 14 February, 2015 You sometimes get the feeling when players go out on loan, they're on the way out the door. Obviously not in JT's case.
