Saints vs West Ham Post Match

By that logic, we aren't able to concede any goals either.

Exactly plus Liverpool will come and have a go at us, plus they aren't as organised at the back as West Ham were. I'd have Toby at RB if he's fit and Clyne at LB as not a game to risk Targett. With Morgan hopefully back, it'll be a very different game to Wednesday night.

Yes, well done you. Completely ignore the crux of the point I was making and instead pick me up on a single expression that I used, in the full knowledge that it was 'literally' incorrect, in order to make it obvious to the average SWF user what I meant.

The term 'parking the bus' usually refers to a team defending deep with the hope that a breakaway attack might bring them a goal. When WHU camped in their own half last night they had absolutely no intention of trying to hit us on the break, rather they were trying simply to stop us from scoring and holding on to get a point, making the expression more appropriate than in its regular use.

I'm sorry if this thinly-veiled inference was lost to your superior literary intellect.

If there's anyone not already reading this who didn't know that, they should probably try harder.

He's very pompous when it comes to the premiership.

Because that's not what it is called, and there are other competitions which actually do use that name. I'm still about 99% more chilled out about grammar nazi stuff than in the SaintsForever days.

Just how good was Harry Reed?!? Rated him before Wednesday but now I think we might have another gem on our hands. Could be JWP and Reed in our midfield for a while to come.

I thought he went missing a bit when we had the ball, to be honest. His defensive play was excellent though, and he might have been told to use our possession to have a break. But I thought there were numerous occasions in transitions where we missed Schneiderlin showing in the middle for a quick and easy courier pass to a more advanced player, it was part of the reason we didn't get the breakthrough (albeit nothing like as significant as us sodding about with it around the box).

Ian Abrahams (Moose) ‏@BroadcastMoose

Good decision overturning Adrian's red card as he wasn't preventing a goalscoring opportunity

So, what else stopped Mane getting to the ball and having a shot if it wasn't Adrian's intervention....?

He handled outside the box, so it doesn't matter whether it was a goalscoring opportunity. Mane and Adrian were both man handling each other, we could have gone either way, but that shouldn't influence the sending off. What next. Will Big Fat Sam appeal his next sending off because the lino gave a throw in the wrong way in the build up.

Here's the FA statement:

http://www.thefa.com/news/governance/2015/feb/adrian-wrongful-dismissal-claim-upheld

An Independent Regulatory Commission has today upheld a claim of wrongful dismissal in relation to Adrian San Miguel Del Castillo.

The West Ham United goalkeeper was dismissed in the game against Southampton on Wednesday 11 February 2015 for denying an obvious goal scoring opportunity.

His one-match suspension has, therefore, been withdrawn with immediate effect.

Meanwhile, West Ham have been charged by The FA for failing to ensure that its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion in or around the 61st minute of this game.

The club have until 6pm on 18 February 2015 to respond to the charge.

Which to me confirms it was withdrawn solely because they decided it wasn't a goal scoring opportunity, not that it wasn't an infringement by the keeper, nor deemed to have been preceded by a foul by Mane. If Adrian hadn't dived onto the ball then surely Mane would have had a goal scoring opportunity?

Edit: the common consensus amongst West Ham fans seems to be that it couldn't have been an "obvious goal scoring opportunity" as they were both moving away from the goal, not towards it, which is a fair point I guess. That said, it wouldn't have taken a lot for Mane to nick the ball away from Adrian's feet (if he hadn't dived on top of it) and slipped it into the goal with a nimble 90 degree spin.

A complete bottle job by the FA because its easier to leave a ref who, had a shocker, out to dry than a. If Adrian doesn't handle, Mane gets the ball. There was a player approaching from the left; but is anyone claiming that Mane wouldn't have been able to turn and get a shot off. I'd fancy his chances as much as the case where a striker, through on goal, is brought down by the last defender (a clear red) but still has the keeper to beat.

I agree. Whilst it's obviously not certain he would have scored he would have had a chance to shoot at goal without a keeper and maybe one or two defenders in the way. Surely that is an obvious goal scoring opportunity?

Said at the time I would have rather had the goal. It was a clear goal scoring opportunity.

he was heading away from the goal and the keeper had the ball..it was pressure/foul from mane that caused the keeper to fall on the ball and handle it

not so clear cut....as in, it was not mane one on one with the keeper with the keeper taking him out so to speak

Surely it doesn't matter on whether it was a goalscoring opp? Isn't a keeper handball outside the box an automatic red!?

Deliberate handball which denies a goalscoring opportunity is. That was clearly this, absolutely ridiculous decision to overturn it.

Sam the Sophisticated has yet to be offered a new contract, isnt he?

I think they will slowly slide down the table a bit...maybe 10th finish at best

Allardyce done a Pochettino innit, should have fielded reserves in the last league game, took the defeat & prioritised the cup

First time I've felt sorry for that Sullivan twat tho!
