West Ham build up

Ivan Katalinic's 'tache

Recommended Posts

It was about this time last season all the moaners got on the back of SRL, now its Pelle's turn despite his hercluean efforts for the team, give it a rest guys please?

He has no real direct replacement with Long, Jay Rod and Sam all injured - you can imagine the meltdown if he got injured too! We have never had it so good, all these club records being broken, defying the odds, keep the faith and be tolerant/patient.

You do realise that you are posting on the Saintsweb forum ?

I think the reputation West Ham is a bit undeserved this year - I agree in previous seasons that they have been direct, but in a fairness to Big Sam he has listened to the criticism and has responded. I think they play decent stuff, with quick, exciting strikers, and they seem to get the ball to Song and Downing's feet when they can. I would rather they did well than the 'big teams' just below us - Man U, Tottenham, Arsenal and Liverpool.

Don't get me wrong, I hope we smash em on Wednesday, but if they finished 4th just behind us, would have no problem with that.

there

fixed that for you

Carroll is on a bit of a hot streak isn't he? I don't want him playing against us without Toby to snuff him out frankly.

The big difference between them this year and last year is they actually have some strikers. As much as I hate Carroll, he's had a good season this year, and is always a threat up top, They have some decent full backs who offer something going forward and they have an excellent DM in Song. We'll have to play well to beat them, and they've got goals in them, especially on the break.

My suggested lineup--I know it won't happen.

Forster

Clyne Fonte Gardos Yoshida

Wanyama Reed

Elia Schneiderlin Mane

Pelle

I believe Schneiderlin can be effective in the more advanced roll and the extra defensive strength will help with West Ham's normal play style. If Cork were still with us I would play him instead of Reed in the more advanced role.

He's having a decent season but I think they prefer the movement up front of the other two. Carroll is a handy player though, and he has good feet too for a big lad, he's not the clogger he's made out to be. Crouchesque really.

West Ham's only fit centre back Tomkins broke his nose yesterday apparently, though is expected to be fit for Wednesday. Shame.

Their fans much prefer it when Carroll and Nolan don't play.

I think all fans of football prefer it when Carroll and Nolan don't play. They're very much players from the 'old West Ham' style; I much prefer the way they actually try to pass the ball more than twice in a row now.

Theres not a lot of difference between Davis and JWP for me right now, Davis slightly pips him.

But yes its good to have both morgan and Vic back, not that I necessarily see a game against WHU as requiring a formidable midfield considering their ability to byepass it.

Yoshi is solid but not as dynamic going forward, I personally think Targett will be ok and play

Did you spot who was screaming for the ball as he hammered up the pitch in the 93rd minute before passing through to Mane for the winning goal?

Yup - you guessed - your very own "undynamic" Yoshi......

With the 3 pts at QPR, at least we " recovered " 3rd place, but regardless of the performance of others, our next 2 home games will help us retain that spot, and both games are highly winnable.

I don't think there is the same sort of " pressure " on the Saints squad, as we are already outperforming everyone's expectations, but the "so-called " big clubs " (still under us) will really feel the heat from their fans who are used to Euro football and don't take to disappointments so easily.

Both WHam and Liverpool are used to playimg open football and this is to our favour and could be their downfall....

Supposedly Reid and Collins are also fit for midweek. Tomkins has dodgy hamstrings and might not be fit for 3 games in 6 days.

Sobering thought of the day: so far Yoshi has more assists as left back than Luke Shaw has had in his PL career.

Can see a draw... 2-2. I don't think we're untouchable and invulnerable to teams like West Ham in particular. In fact I am less certain of a positive result than if we were playing Manure. It really will depend on whether we're able to get the ball moving quickly to Mane and Elia...Wetsham do have the midfield to catch us in possession, but worse still I really hope it doesn't slide into a hoofing match so our midfield gets bypassed.

On another note, anyone know when our new striker can play?

WHU fans views. In among the "hope we smash those ****s!" comments it's interesting to see the divide between those who think the FA cup is more important than the league (and vice verse). More than happy for them to put out a weakend team on Wednesday in preparation for the FA cup game (not sure big Sam rolls like that TBH):D

I thought the new bloke was a attacking midfielder? (i.e. replacement for Davis/JWP)

I feel like we need at least a couple of goals in this game along with a strong defensive perfomance, I can just see heads dropping if our standard of football continues in its current slump. Even so, I wouldn't be surprised with a boring 0-0.

Forster

Clyne Fonte Yoshida Targett

Wanyama Schneiderlin

Mane JWP Elia

Pelle

We need Wanyama and Scheiderlin otherwise Song will have too much influence. Their defence looked vulnerable to people running at them against MU, need Elia and Mane on the end of things, big role for JWP but he's up to it, more than Tadic at the moment.

Having Tadic, Davis, Reed and Djuricic on the bench suddenly makes things look stronger.

Target tweeted that he had headaches on Sunday. The minimum recommended time for playing again after a concussion is five days after the symptoms stop. If Targett plays on Wednesday the club is being grossly irresponsible.

The statistics show they are as direct and long ball as they ever have been - the difference is that they now have better players / more quality on the ball in playing that way so are having more success. I don't think there is a wrong or right way to play football personally, and that teams should give themselves the best chance they have of winning a game - I don't mind the way West Ham play at all but they don't set-up to pass the ball. They are direct and strong.

Disagree, I think they are playing much better football this year in the games I've watched. (I don't doubt you have statistics to back up your direct claims but I don't see it).

Ha, well said, and as usual someone has caught SS spouting BS to any and everyone who will listen.

Also can't get over the number of people who would drop JWP, his assists were key at upton park! Plus our set pieces are literally horrendous without him.

I seem to remember seeing stats that showed us pretty high up in the Long Ball stakes as well, but probably most of those would have been Morgan's 40 yard Ping to the feet of an overlapping defender/ wideman, which to be fair to WHU this season they seem to be doing more of, rather than the aimless hoof up the middle.

Talking to yourself? I think you might need a little time off as well ;)

I do. But not because of a concussion and, in any case, it isn't happening for at least a month. But we really need to win this week so I am not too depressed to get back to work Wednesday afternoon.

Who are their other injured players? Reid and Collins? Can't be easy being a Centre Back playing with a broken nose.

Big Sam interviewed by the PA and said he's watched out last home defeat and hopes to emulate swanseas game plan

"They've lost their last home game. We've studied that and hope to do something similar".

So they're going to sit back and hit us on the break and then sit back again... I think we will force them to play with an early goal.

The starting 11 that West Ham have "studied":

Forster, Clyne, Fonte, Yoshida (centre back), Bertrand, Reed, Davis, Ward-Prowse, Tadić, Elia, Pellè

The probable starting 11 vs West Ham:

Forster, Clyne, Fonte, Gardos, Yoshida (left back), Schneiderlin, Wanyama, Davis, Mané, Elia, Pellè

So, that's nearly half the team different from the Swansea game.

In other words, they've been revising biology before taking a chemistry exam (or some other slightly dodgy Trousers analogy).... :)

Sweet, they will sit back and allow us to be all over them and hope that we have a complete off day in front of goal.

I'd take that scenario
