Calum Chambers move to Arsenal to be investigated

Oxlade-Chamberlain went behind the club's back, defied their embargo on young players talking to the media, and gave an interview to the Telegraph about how much he want to leave. He and his family forced the move to Arsenal (though the Echo were forced to issue a denial), but we applaud him because he applauds us? Brilliant.

It's the same stupid mentality from the same fans that will shout 'break his legs!' during a game or will ignore all the bad points of a player as long as he 'puts a shift in.'

Chambers is a regular for Arsenal and an England international, it's not as if he left us and isn't playing or achieving things. The fact he came through our academy doesn't tie him to us for life.

Maybe we should still be lining up with Oliver Lancashire (Rochdale), Jake Thomson (AFC Portchester) and Arron Davies (Exeter City).

He was a regular at the start of the season when they had a load of defensive injuries, he's barely played since their players got fit (and Coquelin stepped up to play DM ahead of him).

His skills almost certainly would have improved more had he stayed with Southampton. But he would have had less money and he would not have played in the Champions League. His English debut would have been delayed, but he would probably be a more secure part of the set up now. On the other hand, he has almost certainly earned at least 10 million pounds more by moving when he did. Most of us would switch jobs for that kind of money.

I suppose it's to much to hope that Arsenal have done something dodgy and have to be deducted 10pts as a punishment :D

It is not too much to hope for--only too much to expect.

I agree. Plus we'd have won the Championship if he was in the team. Yes we got promoted, but I just want to see us win a bloody trophy other than the sodding JPT.

Personally I don't clap or boo any of them. I might laugh at them if they fall over, miss an easy shot or misplace a pass but that's it.

Agree.

Personally I was fine clapping Theo the first time and never had any time for Oxlade-Chamberlain's impatient jump out of the forthcoming Championship season into the England squad. Chambers wasn't even worth acknowledgement, Shaw the same, Lambert got a cheer at Anfield, Lovren got hammered, Lallana will get hammered at St Mary's unless he "chicken judas"es playing in the match.

Two things struck me as interesting from that article: to see that Oxlade-Chamberlain's father has just taken over as his agent (again?), so keep an eye out for him agitating for a move soon, and secondly that Chambers' agency has a policy of not speaking to the media - given that some of their job is literally to promote him in the media.

I think the policy of not speaking to the media only applies when there is trouble.

Nah, £a££ana the worst of the lot by a mile. Supposed to be our Captain and leader but let us down when we needed him most, a matter of months aftergoing on record saying he'd happily end his career at Saints. Then using the threat of going on strike to push through the move? Not having him. We aren't a nasty club, the people that run SFC are a decent bunch. The lack of thanks/ a statement when £a££ana left said it all IMO. Wrongun.

No problem with Chambers TBH, Shaw either (although I'd have love the club to really fight to keep them as proof of a future full of Academy players). Lambert good luck to him. Lovren just summed up what we should all expect from foreign mercenary players and I'm loving the fact he is being found out without Morgan and Wanyama in front to protect him.

post of the year so far, 2015.

Please don't clap me Oxlade Chamberlain as I will have to give you another rude sign like the rest of the Kingsland. Never did like his old man poncing around the Dell Cafe Bar - I never knew why he was there and not in hospitality. Good riddance.

Arsenal have been fined £60k according to the BBC over the transfer, for using an unauthorised agent.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/34639352

used an unlicensed agent and Chambers Agent had agreed a contract offer ( im guessing also told Chambers about it too ) before a bid had been excepted. to me this is player tapping up and think the fine is an insult to Southampton FC. 60 k fine for a club that makes millions and millions every year, i think its disgracefull

The FA article

http://www.thefa.com/news/governance/2015/oct/arsenal-and-alan-middleton-fined-over-calum-chambers-transfer

and one of the published report (2nd "here")

Some quotes that might interest Saints fans

(iii) Further, at all material times:

(a) PE was an Unlicensed Agent who had taken, but failed, The FA’s Football Agent’s exam; and

(b) Steve Moss (“SM”) worked for PE at CSL. SM is and was the partner of the mother of the Player

PE had known SM and the Player for some considerable time and in June 2013, the Player had attended a training camp which PE had organised and funded. Both Southampton and the Player considered PE to be the Player’s Agent.

During the early summer of 2014 (May/June), the Club was interested in acquiring the registration of the Player. He was aged 19 at the time and playing in the Southampton Reserve Team. Two offers were made by the Club, both of which were rejected by Southampton. The Club maintained its interest in the Player and, by late July 2014, Southampton had become more receptive to the prospect of a transfer.

On 24th July 2014, RL contacted PE, believing him to be the Player’s Agent based on information that RL had obtained from Southampton. RL informed PE that the Club had made an offer for the Player which had been accepted in principle by Southampton

So we told arsenal that PE (Philip Ercolano) was his Agent and they didn't bother checking !

Fuss about nothing. Arsenal used an unlicensed leech instead of a licensed leech. Did it make any difference? No. Nothing to do with Saints, other than the said leech managed to get us a vastly inflated fee.

He has been diabolical tonight. Seriously, what an utter moron who simply followed the $$$$$. Career has gone down the pan.

Another Wenger masterclass.

seems that way. he should have stayed.

he cost more (potentially) than VvD or Toby. Which is utterly ridiculous

Chambers selection for England in 2014, immediately after his transfer to Arsenal wasn't a high spot of Roy Hodgson's managerial career. Blinded by the inflated transfer fee into giving an inexperienced player two caps, before realising his error. Doubt if Saints will ever get the add-ons to the transfer fee that would have taken it up to £16m but even so, you can't help smiling at Arsenal being taken to the cleaners.

Didn't he say he'd been offered a modelling job in case football doesn't work out for him?

Maybe it was Arsenal.

I seem to recall Wenger protesting and saying it was to early, so I would assume it must have triggered a staged payment............
