The Nippers v Leicester tonight

Edmonton Saint

Recommended Posts

3 years ago we lost 5-1, at this stage, at home to Nottingham Forest. We had Shaw and JWP playing, but they had Patrick Bamford, who scored 4 including a couple of "worldys". ;)

They were then drawn against Chelsea, who got through by buying Bamford for £1.5 million before the tie took place. :suspicious:

Who manages the u18s?

Anthony Limbrick, who has been at the club in roles for the under 14's and under 16's since September 2010.

Could be furthering his career elsewhere soon then.

Why? The job of the under 21 and under 18 manager is not to win games, its to develop players to progress to the first team. Something our club does better than possibly any other in the UK. The best Saints under 21 players are with the first team at the top of the Premier League, the best under 18 players are with the under 21 team, which means our under 18's have often used under 16's without the star under 18 players at times.

Leicester played well, but there was a certain degree of extra physicality and strength to their play which helped them: I think only Adebayo on our side matched them in that department. Slattery - only 16 - and Sims were rather hustled out of it. Our lads never stopped trying to play football, but sometimes could have done with being more direct and less naive in allowing so much space on the edge of the box. Mind you, Chaudry looked a good player, and it'll be interesting to see if we ever see him in their first team; about time somebody who I presume has some Indian/Pakistani ancestry makes it.

Nothing to get depressed about there, certainly. We certainly don't just get players who suceed when they are young purely from their physical advantages and early growth.

Also went to see the match. Sue is correct about the lack of pressure around our box that led to the goals. We had one shot cleared off the line and one shot hit the post in the first four minutes. Pretty even first half apart from the goals, Leicester were the better side in the second half. We lost a defender early on to what looked a bad injury.

Callum Slattery is not yet 16, I reckon he will make his first team debut within two years, class player.

I maintain we should sign him. He won't play at Chelsea and would be great here as an understudy to Pelle.

Went as well. Leceister were massive in compArison to our lads. It was like playing a team of yaya toures.

that said, there are some tidy players coming through.

Yup, watching on Youtube it looked more like our under 16s against their under 21s. We were pretty slick for the first 20 mins, but once they went behind, composure on the ball seemed to evaporate pretty rapidly and there were a lot of sloppy passes and bad first touches. Still, definite moments of quality here and there, from Slattery in particular.

Which is why the previous lot got the boot.

I mean, JWP, Chambers, Shaw, Gallagher etc etc etc just wern't good enough for the first team.

This, this and this. Anthony Limbrick is a fantastic academy trainer and we're lucky to have him

What is the reason Dodd and Williams were sacked and how do you know?

Limbrick has been at the club for four and half years in the lower age groups from under 14 to under 16, he has worked with many Saints players now in older age groups.
