Saint-Armstrong Posted 2 February, 2015 Posted 2 February, 2015 Four-and-a-half-year deal. £10m, apparently.
S-Clarke Posted 2 February, 2015 Posted 2 February, 2015 Well played. Got that done, dusted. Will have been in a lot of demand, so pleased we executed this. Top player.
Dig Dig Posted 2 February, 2015 Posted 2 February, 2015 Been excellent all season, surpassed my admittedly low expectations when he signed in the summer. Very good news.
SaintBobby Posted 2 February, 2015 Posted 2 February, 2015 £8.75m....as I said.... Even at £10m+, bargain though. But it was £8.75M.
Ulrich van Gobbel Posted 2 February, 2015 Posted 2 February, 2015 Fantastic signing! Sold one quality LB for £28m, sign another for £8.75m.. Great bit of business that. Now for Toby A....
Saint Charlie Posted 2 February, 2015 Posted 2 February, 2015 2nd biggest deal of the day behind Cuadrado and one of the top 5 of the whole window probably. Excellent.
Viking Warrior Posted 2 February, 2015 Posted 2 February, 2015 Great news . I have an inkling the club did this today because some other club was sniffing around and trying to prize him away from us . Purely a guess
Saint-Armstrong Posted 2 February, 2015 Posted 2 February, 2015 Means that Ryan can play in the away game at Stamford Bridge, too!
Ulrich van Gobbel Posted 2 February, 2015 Posted 2 February, 2015 Means that Ryan can play in the away game at Stamford Bridge, too! Great point!
SW5 SAINT Posted 2 February, 2015 Posted 2 February, 2015 Fantastic signing! Sold one quality LB for £28m, sign another for £8.75m.. Great bit of business that. Now for Toby A.... I thought it was £31m for Shaw?
hypochondriac Posted 2 February, 2015 Posted 2 February, 2015 Been excellent all season, surpassed my admittedly low expectations when he signed in the summer. Very good news. Agree with that. Let's hope we can get Toby signed up in the summer.
Mattio Posted 2 February, 2015 Posted 2 February, 2015 Get in! I mentioned in the other thread I wanted this and Alderweirld to sign today so halfway, I must admit I was totally underwhelmed when he signed, glad he's proved me wrong!
SaintBobby Posted 2 February, 2015 Posted 2 February, 2015 It's £8.75m Utter bargain. No need to close the deal on our side at all, we could have agreed terms at any time between now and June 30th. What a signing...!
SuperMikey Posted 2 February, 2015 Posted 2 February, 2015 Great news! Wasn't sure about Ryan when he initially joined because he's had a fairly patchy record with other teams but he's shown what a good player he can be in his time with us so far. With Targett coming through as well it looks like we have our LB slot sorted for years to come!
Saint_clark Posted 2 February, 2015 Posted 2 February, 2015 Given their respective performances this season, you'd think Bertrand would be in the England squad ahead of Shaw next round of games...
Leicestersaint Posted 2 February, 2015 Posted 2 February, 2015 Good news - and that was never a sending off.
southamptonawaytravel Posted 2 February, 2015 Posted 2 February, 2015 Good price for a very good English player, strange Chelsea normally don't sell cheap
Saint IQ Posted 2 February, 2015 Posted 2 February, 2015 Can someone dig up the page number on the summer thread when we signed him. Reading the comments now is going to be very amusing.
SaintBobby Posted 2 February, 2015 Posted 2 February, 2015 Clever move...they needed to sell. 8.75m is a total bargain.
nta786 Posted 2 February, 2015 Posted 2 February, 2015 Good price for a very good English player, strange Chelsea normally don't sell cheap Well they need the money, and still made a tidy 9 million pound considering he came from their academy. However, some of the prices they have received have been ridiculous: Luiz, 50million, Lukaku, 28 million, Mata for 37 million and today, Andre Schurrle for 24! Very good buy from us!
SarniaSaint Posted 2 February, 2015 Posted 2 February, 2015 Great news...........now to get Toby on a permanent deal......should be the defence sorted for the next 4 seasons
angelman Posted 2 February, 2015 Posted 2 February, 2015 Good price for a very good English player, strange Chelsea normally don't sell cheap Wasn't a price agreed pre-loan? Not sure how these options to buy work. Is it a bargain? I find fees so difficult to keep track of that I don't know what's what. Looking at B'mouth offering £5m for an 18yo from Brum, suggests that it is.
Ludwig Posted 2 February, 2015 Posted 2 February, 2015 Means that Ryan can play in the away game at Stamford Bridge, too! Great point! Don't count our chickens
austsaint Posted 2 February, 2015 Posted 2 February, 2015 Clever move...they needed to sell. 8.75m is a total bargain. Is this so? With the FFP requirements on Chelsea for the expensive purchase they made - great work by SFC if the case. Been a great player for us this season; love his runs down the flank and he really has a good cross in his kit bag.
shurlock Posted 2 February, 2015 Posted 2 February, 2015 (edited) £8.75-10m Wouldn't say its a total bargain but works out well for both sides given Chelsea paid £7m for Azpilicueta and £15.8m for Filipe Luis. Edited 3 February, 2015 by shurlock

Been a great player for us this season; love his runs down the flank and he really has a good cross in his kit bag. And he has great attitude.
Lighthouse Posted 2 February, 2015 Posted 2 February, 2015 Decent price for a very capable player. With him and Targett LB is starting to look good for the forseable future. As weird as it sounds, I'm glad Ryan isn't 'too good' for us. By that I mean I can't see Liverpool chucking a desperate£25m at him any time soon, so he should stick around a while.
SaintRobbie Posted 3 February, 2015 Posted 3 February, 2015 Well played. Got that done, dusted. Will have been in a lot of demand, so pleased we executed this. Top player. I agree. Ryan is a Saint. Fact.
Redslo Posted 3 February, 2015 Posted 3 February, 2015 (edited) Means that Ryan can play in the away game at Stamford Bridge, too! Unless the transfer agreement specifically prohibits this which is allowable under the rules. Also, if we qualify for European football this fills one of our four association trained slots with a good player. Edited 3 February, 2015 by Redslo
angelman Posted 3 February, 2015 Posted 3 February, 2015 Unless the transfer agreement specifically prohibits this which is allowable under the rules. Also, if we qualify for European football this fills one of our four association trained slots with a good player. You sure that it is permitted under the rules, as I was led to believe that it was strictly against the rules.
Lighthouse Posted 3 February, 2015 Posted 3 February, 2015 You sure that it is permitted under the rules, as I was led to believe that it was strictly against the rules. I seem to remember we didn't bother with Beattie. That went well.
BlakeySFC Posted 3 February, 2015 Posted 3 February, 2015 £8.75m is an absolute bargain, Bertrand has been absolutely top quality for us since he signed on loan in the Summer, hilarious to think United paid £32m for Shaw
Redslo Posted 3 February, 2015 Posted 3 February, 2015 You sure that it is permitted under the rules, as I was led to believe that it was strictly against the rules. Rule V.7.3: if during the period of a Temporary Transfer the Player’s registration is transferred permanently from the Transferor Club to the Transferee Club, the two Clubs may agree in writing (to be copied to the League) that the Player shall not play against the Transferor Club for the remainder of the Season;
cellone Posted 3 February, 2015 Posted 3 February, 2015 Can someone dig up the page number on the summer thread when we signed him. Reading the comments now is going to be very amusing. Amusing or petty?
LVSaint Posted 3 February, 2015 Posted 3 February, 2015 Amusing or petty? It would be very amusing and original if it happened. I hope someone does this.
brmbrm Posted 3 February, 2015 Posted 3 February, 2015 Great news not just for this year but also the rest of this decade (twiddles thumbs counting one- two -three-spill beer - one two blah blah)
niceandfriendly Posted 3 February, 2015 Posted 3 February, 2015 I was another who thought he was a cheap option when he signed and I criticised Kat for it, but that just further shows my idiocy and why I'll never run a football club What a great signing this is
