Deadline Day: 02/02/2015

I think I'm in the minority of really enjoying deadline day. I look forward to seeing if we get any players in (and hope we don't lose any decent ones) but also laugh at the big teams being shafted for average players to try and help them in the Champs league. I don't see a problem with it myself.

No Robin, I am talking about the windows and how they work :mcinnes:

what is the problem. there is a 4 week window in january for clubs to evaluate their squads

the only real issue (IMO) is that the summer window should shut the friday night before the 1st game of the season

Makes players more expensive, players get paid more, cost of going to football goes up etc...

what clubs have got desperate?

some clubs buy gash and pay over the odds no matter what

Another case of burnt sausages, Jamie? You've been in an excitable mood this morning.

Of course, teams overpay in January - why we've consistently stayed out of the window. Supply (limited players available) doesn't match demand (teams that expectedly or unexpectedly find themselves in relegation scraps or chasing honours). At the margins, that will inflate fees.

Vilhena deal completely off according to reports in NL.

So basically means Reed is now our 3rd choice defensive midfielder.

Would personally say, right now, Cork is better so IMO we have slightly weakened that position, but it has probably freed up the wages for Djuricic.

At the moment he is the first choice (only proper) DM. I think I'd rather the club had let Cork go on a free in the summer and kept him for the rest of the season than let him go now. I mean even if he only featured for a few more games an experienced DM in those games might be the difference between CL and no CL Corks transfer fee is paltry compared to the CL money.

That's not what the Sky reporter at St. Mary's just said. He said that we are still in talks and haggling over the fee. He inferred that it was still expected to go through eventually.

Wouldn't pay much attention to SSN. They're just desperate for a story, stuff which isn't close will be ramped up.

They're basing the fact that signings will happen because they happend last year. Dull.

Exactly. Plus I sure someone with close links to Feyenoord and Vilhena probably knows more than a wally stood outside SMS who is most likely getting his updates from the Sky website.

Its off:

Echo teasing an update on Vilhena in their Live blog coming in the next few minutes (no doubt to tell us dead is dead or something equally disappointing)

edit: Vilhena deal dead, Djuricic only incoming today as it stands according to Adam Leitch

Wow' date=' sign an attacking midfielder we don't need and lose Jack Cork for a packet of peanuts. Not a strong finish to a transfer window that started so well with Elia. Can't win them all I suppose![/quote']

Why don't we need him? We lack creativity and a killer final ball, this lad might provide the answer.

Wanyama, Schneiderlin and Reed - we're pretty well set for defensive midfielders still.

You're right, the service hasn't been great, but he's missed some great chances in recent weeks. United, Everton, especially Arsenal spring to mind. I don't think we can expect that much more from an £8m player, but I think we need someone to share the workload.

Tadic really isn't helping, his delivery has been pretty poor recently. I hope we see Elia on the left, Mane behind Pelle and JWP on the right next time out.

It's also slightly odd that we have three wingers who prefer to play on the left.

If this Djuricic bloke is better than JWP or Davis then I'm all for it. (Though in fairness I know nothing about Djuricic)

Maybe Alderweireld is our 3rd choice DM. He certainly was not that long ago.

Mokotjo has played for two teams this season already. FC Zwolle in the Dutch charity shield and Twente in the league and cup. I hope we aren't as stupid as Nice were with the Ben Arfa transfer.

depends if the Johan Cruff Shield is considered a competitive/official match or not. At some point in the past the English Charity/Community Shield was classified as a Friendly. Not sure if it still is.

In fact Ben Arfa has been refused his transfer to Nice because he played for Newcastle in an U21 game and then Hull,no end of appeals and what have you but at the end of the day even an U21 game is classed as official nowadays.

Cork was better yes but realistically we have two of the best DMs in the league with Toby, Reed, Davis and even JWP that can play there if required so Im not too much panic

If anything its a GK or Pellè injury that will shaft us

Has the loan been terminated? Or is he just set to sit in limbo with Inter for the rest of the season? Rather that than have him clog up the wage bill here.

Inter want to cancel the loan, but we are under no obligation to do so. Given the situation when he left, I can't imagine we'd be willing to cancel it without having already found another destination to send him to.

you have a valid point that several others have also put forward, but on the other hand.....

He clearly wasn't RK's first choice player, and only got in when others were injured, having £3 million now goes some way towards getting a replacement when he would have walked away for nothing...in May.

Would personally say, right now, Reed is better so IMO we have not significantly changed the squad once Wanyama and Morgan are fit, but it has probably freed up the wages for Djuricic

Fair enough. Elia a great addition so overall pretty good.

Bet a few other PL Managers wished they had gone for Elia. Seems a fairly decent deal for someone of that quality, even for a lower side to have gambled on.
