buctootim Posted 28 January, 2015 Posted 28 January, 2015 Why did it close in the first place? Anyone know?
Dimond Geezer Posted 28 January, 2015 Posted 28 January, 2015 Looking forward to it. Don't just turn up though, the first three nights are ticket only, £10 each & includes your first drink & limited to 100 each night.
Mattio Posted 28 January, 2015 Author Posted 28 January, 2015 Why did it close in the first place? Anyone know? I believe it was something to do with capacity and fire regulations so they couldn't keep the licence.
buctootim Posted 28 January, 2015 Posted 28 January, 2015 First pub I ever got barred from. Hard to get barred from there unless you sat quietly and read a book - given yelling, singing, snogging, spilling beer and dancing on tables were all encouraged.

miserableoldgit Posted 28 January, 2015 Posted 28 January, 2015 I was there the night the pub originally opened when it was, I think, the first pub that the Ringwood Brewery ever opened.
Lets B Avenue Posted 28 January, 2015 Posted 28 January, 2015 I was there the night the pub originally opened when it was, I think, the first pub that the Ringwood Brewery ever opened. Went every night of the first week. Mate got a bar job for the Friday, which made it much easier to get served and we always stayed on for the lock-ins. Remember the old W. Indian who they got in to play the piano. Great musician, but turned out to be somewhat dodgy for other reason. IIRC
krissyboy31 Posted 28 January, 2015 Posted 28 January, 2015 Many a good night spent in there, after Ocean Village had kicked out. Used to use it before matches the first few seasons at St Mary's.
Sour Mash Posted 29 January, 2015 Posted 29 January, 2015 Anyone know how close they are to opening the Wool House as a pub/brewery?
KK the 2nd Posted 30 January, 2015 Posted 30 January, 2015 Remember ordering a pint of Frogs Original Croaker and being told "FOC off"!
eesti matty Posted 30 January, 2015 Posted 30 January, 2015 Fairly close. Apoarently things were delayed by some modifications that needed to be made, plus some asbestos removal.
Wade Garrett Posted 30 January, 2015 Posted 30 January, 2015 I remember it being frequented by the great unwashed on the one occasion I went in there.
Sour Mash Posted 31 January, 2015 Posted 31 January, 2015 I remember it being frequented by the great unwashed on the one occasion I went in there. Skates?
sussexsaint Posted 10 February, 2015 Posted 10 February, 2015 Took my son to the first home game of the season and was gutted when we walked passed the old place boarded up. Took a photo on my mobile and proceeded to bore the brains out of him with tales of spit sawdust and singing until you were hoarse. I had feared it was the sort of place that would never rise again, lost to the mists of time and legend whilst wetherspoons and other chained behemoths forced their globalised , homogenised crap down peoples throats. I have forgotten some bloody great times in that place. I'' try and upload the pic via tapatalk if I can
sussexsaint Posted 10 February, 2015 Posted 10 February, 2015 (edited) Not sure why I felt compelled to take a photo of the place that day. Seeing it like that pulled at something deep inside me. Probably pretty pathetic but it was so inextricably linked with a time in my life that was carefree and happy. I loved the Canute as well, whats that now ? a bloody estate agents or something? Saint_Ash Posted 10 February, 2015 Posted 10 February, 2015 OHHH YES! I work in Ocean Village and drive past there quite often looking forlornly at the boarded up windows. I started going there 20 years ago and had some of my best nights out there. Was great having to go upstairs to get to the toilet downstairs! Even today Starman came on the radio this morning on Solent and I thought of the Frog and Frigate, twas a premonition.
