CB Fry Posted 25 January, 2015 Posted 25 January, 2015 New Adam Curtis documentary on BBC iPlayer right now. If you have two hours to spare, strap in. A dead body and a clip of the Afghan version of the 'Thick Of It' ten minutes in. American soldiers gloating about killing Afghanis. And trippy as f uck.
Coxford_lou Posted 25 January, 2015 Posted 25 January, 2015 Thanks for the recommendation. Sound very interesting, and will save for tomorrow evening. Tonight was the last night of Walking The Nile.
sadoldgit Posted 26 January, 2015 Posted 26 January, 2015 Thanks for the recommendation. Sound very interesting, and will save for tomorrow evening. Tonight was the last night of Walking The Nile. Watched all of those. Lots of walking and drinking water and sand. I guess you watched it for the eye candy Lou?
Coxford_lou Posted 27 January, 2015 Posted 27 January, 2015 Watched all of those. Lots of walking and drinking water and sand. I guess you watched it for the eye candy Lou? Watched it because it was well done and my heritage is Egyptian, so fascinating to see. But, seriously, I'm gonna marry that guy one day
sadoldgit Posted 27 January, 2015 Posted 27 January, 2015 Watched it because it was well done and my heritage is Egyptian, so fascinating to see. But, seriously, I'm gonna marry that guy one day If he stops walking long enough!
shurlock Posted 27 January, 2015 Posted 27 January, 2015 (edited) As a piece of art, it's brilliantly done but the actual history is infuriating, bordering on misleading. Steve Coll's very readable and meticulously even-handed trilogy (the Bin Ladens, Ghost Wars and Exxon Mobil) does a much better job in this regard. Edited 27 January, 2015 by shurlock
CB Fry Posted 25 June, 2015 Author Posted 25 June, 2015 Today feels like a nice day to reminisce about a truly excellent piece of television that I watched and started a thread about five months ago.
Maggie May Posted 26 June, 2015 Posted 26 June, 2015 It's amazing how dream-like he makes his documentaries. Bitter Lake was outstanding. I'm sure I read somewhere he has a secret area in the BBC archives where he spends days researching and editing clips without being disturbed.

He talks about some of the research he does in this excellent interview: http://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2015/jan/24/adam-curtis-bitter-lake
