Saint Charlie Posted 24 January, 2015 Share Posted 24 January, 2015 (edited) Not much more to add from the title. We have been a striker light all season. Long now injured and he has hardly set the world alight. We are too reliant on Pelle. Given how well placed we are it would be madness not to at least loan someone in IMO. Absolute no brainer. SNSUN Posted 24 January, 2015 Share Posted 24 January, 2015 Yep agree. Need a striker more than any other position. We can get by with the keepers and right backs, but not bringing another striker in could be the difference between top 4 and top 7.

Bewildered Posted 24 January, 2015 Share Posted 24 January, 2015 Even Koeman said he wants another striker. Guess he is a knee jerker When he was asked about Guidetti on Thursday, he said the didn't want an attacker. Either he changed his mind or the board said no. Of course with Long now injured, club may have no choice if Long's injury is bad. Rodriguez isn't going to be back anytime soon it doesn't seem and who the hell knows what is going on with Gallagher. Saint Charlie Posted 24 January, 2015 Author Share Posted 24 January, 2015 Seagar seemed to play quite well judging from the audio commentary Which is great. But do we want to try and get fourth place or not? If we do, then Seagar isn't the answer at this stage in his career. Surely loaning a striker until May isn't financially precarious!! cobbysouth Posted 24 January, 2015 Share Posted 24 January, 2015 the reason its come up now is because long went off injured, he could be out for 2 days or a year who knows, pelle is a good player but has scored like 1 in 15 for us, mane and mayuka are gone but that doesnt matter that much because mayuka is ****. jay rod and gallagher long term injuries. ut would be fine if like last season are 2 wide attackers (lallana and j rod) were banging in 10-15 goals a piece but tadic has scored 2 is it? need a new striker. a club in our position shouldnt potentially throw it away because they dont wanna spend an extra bit of money that we would more than make back if we finished in top four. imagine if pelle was injured not on top of long. Batman Posted 24 January, 2015 Share Posted 24 January, 2015 Good luck with that, loads of good strikers out here in January I'm sure. I also look forward to Chelsea and man city buying whole new teams now. Don't know why it's come up today. Scoring 2 at home to palace should be enough. They're probably just so focused on the league it's hard to produce the same in the cup. That's 3 cup game and 3 performances some way below league levels. washsaint Posted 24 January, 2015 Share Posted 24 January, 2015 Shurlock has it bang on IMO. We could play 5 strikers up front but if we don't give them a chance to score we have problems. Our defence, today aside, has been outstanding and that is why we are as high in the League as we are. Incredible how many chances we are converting as we are creating so little. That is the biggest concern right now: creatively we are completely flat and Tadic seems to have gone right off the boil. 3 points against Swansea would be great - but anyone who thinks bringing in a new striker will change anything is dreaming. Patrick Bateman Posted 24 January, 2015 Share Posted 24 January, 2015 Bamford? Plenty of players across the world would surely be keen to play for a team chasing top 4 in the Premier League? Doesn't have to be a world beater just a solid striker who is better than Seagar and Mayuka. Can't be that hard to identify one given the scouting setup (that Reed was rightly praising only this morning)?

Rebel Posted 24 January, 2015 Share Posted 24 January, 2015 We do desperately need a striker - with Gallagher and Rodriguez out as long term injuries, Mayuka and Mane in Africa and now Long probably out injured for more than a couple of weeks we only have Pelle in the first team squad. Of those Mayuka is just not good enough - and the same is probably true of Long if we are honest. And Pelle despite being good enough is very one dimensional in the way he plays . So we needed another striker anyway. Mane is also more of a left winger anyway - which brings me to another problem - in Tadic, Elia and Mane we have 3 left wingers - 4 if you add Isgrove - but no right wingers. We need one of those as well - and a right back to provide some cover for Clyne. I think the problem is until we get Mayuka and Osvaldo and Ramirez entirely off the wage bill and/or sell Rodriguez we can't afford to bring another one in. Do you really think that there is no-one lined up as a possible option? What would you do if Graz was injured as well? Its what our club philosophy is based on, why we were able to get players in last summer. Of course if the Black Box says "no" then maybe we are ****ged, because we will certainly be very lucky to achieve our goals unless we do something now that we have only one recognised senior striker fit to play. doddisalegend Posted 24 January, 2015 Share Posted 24 January, 2015 Do we need more strikers? only Pelle seems to play as an actual Centre forward. Tadic and Elia played out wide of him today and neither of them are strikers Long is a striker but normally plays in the same position as Tadic or Elia. Mane is the same, I think he is classed as winger but plays the same position as the other three. We Should have a back up CF for Pelle because he is crucial to the way we play and no one else really plays the same way as him but everyone else plays out wide and we are pretty well set there when Mane comes back even if Long is injured.
