Dalek2003 Posted 25 January, 2015 Posted 25 January, 2015 Palace must be kicking themselves going through to the 5th round when they need to concentrate on staying up. Yep, they have mucked that up. Mind you, we are safe so who cares.
SaintRobbie Posted 25 January, 2015 Posted 25 January, 2015 We have been very slack over the past few games with possession. We seem to be giving it away very sloppily lately. The third Palace goal was the result of once more giving away possession unnecessarily. We need to work on that.
Dig Dig Posted 25 January, 2015 Posted 25 January, 2015 I think players struggle to get excited about cups, especially not until the semi final sort of stage. The Sheff Utd Q Final was hardly glamourous and flat atmospheres with cheap tickets like Ipswich don't do much to change that. Mentally they are more focused on the PL. The players are heavily incentivised on the league performance and not the cups. No matter what side is put out or what Koeman says, the players haven't performed to their high standards regardless.
Leicestersaint Posted 25 January, 2015 Posted 25 January, 2015 I think we were mugged yesterday - their tactics took us by surprise and we couldn't cope. Some of our players yesterday were poor. It might have been very different with VW, MS and TA. Let's hope they're back for the home game in the PL.
Wes Tender Posted 25 January, 2015 Posted 25 January, 2015 Give over, FFS. Man City and Chelsea knocked out of the cup is news. Saints getting knocked out of the cup is normal. Top three being knocked out is more newsworthy isn't it? No doubt Manchester United would have had to have been knocked out for them to have said that the top four had been knocked out and even then you'd have to wonder whether they'd say that the top two and the fourth team were all out.
CB Fry Posted 25 January, 2015 Posted 25 January, 2015 Top three being knocked out is more newsworthy isn't it? No doubt Manchester United would have had to have been knocked out for them to have said that the top four had been knocked out and even then you'd have to wonder whether they'd say that the top two and the fourth team were all out. Why are you asking me? Ask all the news agencies and the MOTD production team. Southampton knocked out of cup is not news. Get over it.
Wes Tender Posted 25 January, 2015 Posted 25 January, 2015 Why are you asking me? Ask all the news agencies and the MOTD production team. Southampton knocked out of cup is not news. Get over it. Pardon me for agreeing with the OP. I would have thought that the third top team being knocked out of the FA Cup along with the first and second teams was worthy of a mention regardless of who that team was. But the news media obviously think along the same lines as you, that it came as no surprise to anybody that little old Southampton were knocked out.
Sour Mash Posted 25 January, 2015 Posted 25 January, 2015 I wish Pelle would stop spending so much time arguing with the ref. Just accept it and get on with the game. I can understand his frustration, gets battered every game and gets very little change from the ref. Both him and Elia let their frustration show a bit too much yesterday though.
Sour Mash Posted 25 January, 2015 Posted 25 January, 2015 Way over the top but its fair to ask what's up with him as he's underperformed for a while and not really shared in the same bounce back in form that the rest of the team has. Agreed, I guess Tadic may be one of those players that is always a bit frustrating, blows hot and cold, but for someone that is so good with assists his crossing is really hit and miss and he doesn;t seem as focused and engaged as the rest of the team at times.
Appy Posted 25 January, 2015 Posted 25 January, 2015 Wouldn't bother giving Cork a new deal, Reed has more potential and at this moment is a better player.
austsaint Posted 25 January, 2015 Posted 25 January, 2015 I wouldn't lose any sleep if I never saw Tadic in a Saints shirt again. Sorry but he was so woeful today. I wouldn't lose sleep if I never saw JWP in a Saints shirt again, but it's not going to happen. Tadic is a class act down on form; JWP is a lovely young lad trading on youth, "potential" and a pretty good dead ball delivery.
Whitey Grandad Posted 25 January, 2015 Posted 25 January, 2015 Pardon me for agreeing with the OP. The Mail on Sunday had us included with the 'Giants' who got knocked out yesterday.
shirleysfc Posted 25 January, 2015 Posted 25 January, 2015 Wouldn't bother giving Cork a new deal, Reed has more potential and at this moment is a better player. This. I've never got the over the top praise of Cork. Sure, he runs around a lot and has had a few decent games, but anyone who thinks he's better than Wanyama or remotely close to an England call up is barking!!
Lighthouse Posted 25 January, 2015 Posted 25 January, 2015 There's a saying 'You're ONLY as good as your last game' Both Pelle And Tadic need to stop whinging and get on with the game. Which is obviously a bull sh*t saying, Ronaldo was sent off in his last game. Tadic is a decent player suffering from some bad form.
BILLY Posted 25 January, 2015 Posted 25 January, 2015 This. I've never got the over the top praise of Cork. Sure, he runs around a lot and has had a few decent games, but anyone who thinks he's better than Wanyama or remotely close to an England call up is barking!! Reed should have played yesterday. I was surprised he didn't come on. Still gutted about yesterday's result. Wasted a golden opportunity again.

He has been poor since that night in Serbia when the Albanian drone arrived, with only very occasional flashes of his previous form. I'm not convinced its just down to poor form.
Charlie Wayman Posted 25 January, 2015 Posted 25 January, 2015 Of course we wanted to win this game, we want to win every game.... ah well, we'll believe everything we're told. Bye!, bye! Corkie and Gardos? Can anybody explain to me what the three guys up top are supposed to be doing all afternoon? Beats me.
foxy9143 Posted 25 January, 2015 Posted 25 January, 2015 He has been poor since that night in Serbia when the Albanian drone arrived, with only very occasional flashes of his previous form. I'm not convinced its just down to poor form. I agree. That seemed to be the turning point, but I can't see why there would be a connection between that incident and his current lack of form.
Saint Luke Posted 25 January, 2015 Posted 25 January, 2015 Listening to 5live on the way back up to New Malden they kept saying - 'Top 3 of the premier League knocked out of the FA Cup' We lost the midfield and they wanted it more than us. Their 3rd goal was slick passing and good movement - how on earth Chamakh can play like that is beyond me. Probably his one good game for the rest of the season. Defence didn't seem to track players as well as in previous league games. We so missed Wanyama and Schneiderlin in midfiled. Palace were physical but acceptably so but I do think that Pelle gets short shrift from the refs.
Saints foreva Posted 25 January, 2015 Posted 25 January, 2015 Has Elia found his way out of Ward's pocket yet?
Charlie Wayman Posted 25 January, 2015 Posted 25 January, 2015 He didn't cost us the game, but what a shocking ref! Mr Moss is welcome to make mistakes, we all do, and he certainly does, but to be blatantly inconsistent is a sin. 1st half - Palace player chops down winger, not even a word from the ref. 2nd half - Targett chops down winger on same spot in identical manner, his first foul - yellow card. I know people on here like to defend refs for a laugh - good luck with this bloke! He had an inconsistent shocker, as demonstrated by the loudest cheer of the afternoon when he finally gave a free kick. Refs are easy targets for blokes like you. Funny isn't it that we don't hear a squeak from you or your ilk about refs when we win. I don't know if you were at the match or not but it was obvious to everyone that we didn't lose because of the ref. They have a very difficult job to do under extremely difficult circumstance, how would you feel at being called a wonker every week by a bunch of clueless morons who probably have never read the rules of football in their life.

Woah! I'm not normally one for slagging refs and agree that they have a tough job but yesterday's ref was poor and he was even worse in the Everton game. Booed off by the whole ground even though we won that game.

andoru Posted 25 January, 2015 Posted 25 January, 2015 This. I've never got the over the top praise of Cork. Sure, he runs around a lot and has had a few decent games, but anyone who thinks he's better than Wanyama or remotely close to an England call up is barking!! I think most people's support for Jack Cork comes from the fact he is generally dependable, and we need depth because we have a pretty thin squad. I don't think I've read anyone say he's better than Wanyama (on the contrary, many have picked Vic as their player of the season so far). We need players to rotate in, and already have Cork on the books, so it makes more sense to keep him on the books than to scout and buy a similarly capable replacement. Also, a new contract protects his value, which means Saints can actually make some money from him if he does leave.
VectisSaint Posted 25 January, 2015 Posted 25 January, 2015 The Sunderland game was the first one following that incident. So it was. Well he's been poor since then-ish

Golden Balls Posted 25 January, 2015 Posted 25 January, 2015 Has Elia found his way out of Ward's pocket yet? Nice fishing. But in a good contest of 2 good players, Elia came out on top.

Yes we should base all our player decisions over the last three or four games after all players form never goes up and down. Cork was class last season when Victor got injuried yet shock horror he wasn't brilliant on his first game back after injury and playing for a while. Lets be honest we're a big team, CL and all that, now we should sack off most of the squad and spend loads on some better players....................................Thank fu ck the board run the club in a sensible manner rather than the fans.

But then when one is as likely to go down as the other, what difference does it make which order you have them? But I'm pleased to hear that since then, you believe that your level of perspective has improved. As for the other matter, it wasn't a matter of needing to pluck up courage. It was more a case of refusing to respond to the sort of infantile puerility that you demonstrate once more with your chicken taunts. I bet you enjoyed using that one in the playground, didn't you? Batman Posted 25 January, 2015 Posted 25 January, 2015 a premier league side beating another premier league side is not big news really. It happens every week So hardly a shock story when it comes to the cup
Causer Posted 25 January, 2015 Posted 25 January, 2015 I wouldn't lose sleep if I never saw JWP in a Saints shirt again, but it's not going to happen. Tadic is a class act down on form; JWP is a lovely young lad trading on youth, "potential" and a pretty good dead ball delivery. 7 assists this season, (should be 8 for but Lukaku own goal did not count) from 12 games, that is a dammed impressive effort. Terrible team performance yesterday but lovely ball for Bertrand to set up the own goal and great corner. He was considerably better than Davis and Cork who are worshipped on here most of the time..

Not every assist is created equal - some owe more to the finish or the way the team sets up than the quality of the assist. JWP's assist for Mané's goal doesnt stand out whereas Tadic's backheel for Clyne against Liverpool does.

In no way did he contribute to our defeat but he had a really poor (as usual imo) game.

Causer Posted 25 January, 2015 Posted 25 January, 2015 True and I am a big fan of Tadic as well, wonderful classy player. Just think JWP gets a lot of harsh criticism for someone has played a valuable role in helping us to 3rd in the premiership.

St_Tel49 Posted 25 January, 2015 Posted 25 January, 2015 True but if he hit the target a bit more he would be a god. If either he or Davis could hit the target they would be almost the perfect midfielders!
dannysfc Posted 25 January, 2015 Posted 25 January, 2015 Was at the game yesterday and that even though we lost & went out I enjoyed it as it was end to end and yes maybe on another day with VW/MS/TA in then who knows but it's happened & we move on to the Swansea game a week today and hopefully bounce back with a Win but we'l see what happens......!!! I also thought that yet again the Referee Jon Moss was utter S**** again like he was v Everton but there we go! Also I hope Long will be OK after that nasty injury too! COYR!!!
