We're the 25th richest club in the world...

According to the Deloitte football money list for the 2013-14 season. Hope I'm reading it right, very tired, I assume it's income based.

I would think that we'd be higher up in the 2014-15 list.

It is based on gross cash inflow in Euros, but yes it appears we are 25th on the list world wide.

We should pass Aston Villa this year--especially if we get lots of TV appearances during the rest of the season.

It is also worth noting that making the Champions League next year would put us above Newcastle, but would not catch us up to Tottenham--unless maybe we won the Champions League and the Spurs failed to qualify for Europe at all.

If we qualified for the Champions League in 2016-2017, with the new league TV contract we would probably be in the top ten world wide. Edit: I take that back. We probably could not catch Juventus or Spurs.

Since AC Roma is 24th on the list, I thought it might be interesting to post this link. Does AC Roma's strategy make sense? Is there real money here and, if so, should Southampton be doing something similar? I don't know.

Interesting article. Not sure how we compete with this bit though? Answers below please ....

Beyond exporting this brand across new platforms across the world, when the 35 to 50 million visitors from around the world visit Roma, we want a Roma match in the new stadium to be on the list of things to do. The Colosseum, the Pantheon, and the Stadio della Roma for a match. - See more at: http://www.soccerex.com/news/2015/01/roma%E2%80%99s-digital-revolution#sthash.vEZSZzux.dpuf

Yes we need to find our USP. THE NBC documentary took a David an Goliath angle with the Academy strongly featured.

A higher league placing this season would bring in more prize money. If such a list included transfer income that would shoot Saints up the list after our summer sales in 2014/15.

The Half Time entertainment should seal the deal for any would-be match visitor

A competition between two Derby Road girls... assembling Swedish flat pack furniture in a zorb whilst the Benny Hill music plays in the background.

Talking of lists...

I stumbled over this list the other day. The "International Federation of Football History and Statistics" (IFFHS) club world rankings.

It places us as the 208th best club team... (cue Clarkson voice)... in the world!

...which is 9 places lower than Crusaders FC from Belfast - who are a semi-profession team.

Who comes up with this $hite?!

I think all 20 PL teams are in the top 40.

Indeed, its all very well saying we are the 25th richest in Europe when 14 of the top 30 are English. With Swansea coming in at 29! If it was based on turnover poopey would make the top 10. They have certainly have in recent years "turned over" about 250mill.

Like to see a table with tv revenue stripped out.

United are 125 so I wouldn't pay much attention.

Not too far off the likes of Villa, Everton and Newcastle despite some on here telling us how huge they are.

19. Newcastle United (155.1m)

20. Everton (144.1m)

21. West Ham United (137.4m)

22. Aston Villa (133m)

25. Southampton (126.9m)

I'm surprised West Ham are where they are and TBH even though Villa are historically a big club, they've been struggling with no investment for several years.

I'd suggest that a £29m gap between us and Newcastle is still pretty significant, I mean it's nearly 25% of our revenue

Real Madrid got £43million for winning the champions league (see below)

http://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsleague/news/newsid=2117799.html

Looking at those figures we'd need to qualify & reach at least the quarter finals of the champions league to match the revenue generated by Newcastle, unless we can significantly increase our match day\commercial revenue...

West Ham though despite recent history still have got a fairly large fan-base nationally(everyone has at least 3-4 hammers mates from round their way)/world wide when compared to us so that doesn't surprise me too much. Villa, I have no clue how they manage revenue must be through better sponsorship deals, i imagine our Veho deal isn't particularly lucrative.

Would have been pre-Veho and Villa have a charity on their shirts don't they?

It is AS Roma. Anyway, Roma is very badly managed club, they are rotten from inside and their wages are massive. They are not bancrupt only because they sell their stars from time to time. I hope Saints will stop being like that, although when you think of Liverpool you might actually hope they would come for 30M Mayuka and 40M Targett bids lol. Basically in italy, the only good deal is from TV, as Mediaset and Sky came with massive bids for italian standars, this is only natural considering its cheaper to watch football on TV for an avarage italian

38 degrees are claiming that despite the richness of English football clubs, they barely pay their staff a living wage. Is this true of Southampton Football Club?

Here is their petition:

"Today, we learned that 14 UK Premier League football clubs are among the richest in the world. [1] But while the players earn millions, most of the non-playing staff don’t even earn enough to meet the basic cost of living. [2]

Most of the top football clubs pay their non-playing staff peanuts. One club is different: after a public outcry from fans across the UK, Chelsea FC committed to paying a ‘living wage’ to their staff. [3] The living wage is only a fraction more than the minimum wage - but it makes a huge difference to families struggling to get by. [4]

So why don’t all the mega-rich clubs pay the staff who keep them ticking over enough to actually live on? Public pressure worked on Chelsea FC - so now, let’s push the other clubs into paying fairly.

There’s one petition per Premier League club. You can pick the club you support, or the club you live closest to, and add your name to the petition. Click here to sign:

https://secure.38degrees.org.uk/living-wage-football-petition

Premier League clubs make millions of pounds in profit from ticket sales and TV advertising every year. The idea that they can’t afford to pay their staff a living wage is laughable. So they must be choosing not to. Together, we can show them they’re wrong. [5]

Let’s turn up the heat on the Premier League. Click here to demand that mega-rich football clubs pay their staff a living wage:
