Have you any sympathy for this guy even if he is a Tottnumb fan?

Also, do you think it is a real betting slip or something he has knocked up?

Have you ever been close to winning a decent size bet only to see it snatched out of your hand by the fickle hand of fate?

I did a correct score accummalaotor a good few years ago. The first three games ended with the scorers I predicted. it was the time of teletext and I was following the Charlton v Notts County game which I predicted as 1-1. It was 1-1 right up to the 86th minute then another goal went in (and another) to end 2-2. Cost me nearly £8,000.

You?

I have every sympathy for him, it was an appalling and obviously hopeless offside decision and the ref was no better, not seeing that he was in his own half.

Surely every near-winning bet that doesn't win is snatched away by fate?

I had less sympathy for the one that's doing the rounds about the guy losing £42k because he cashed out his TWO 10-12(ish) team accumulators for £87, bearing in mind that 3 of the matches hadn't even kicked off at that point, including Saints at Newcastle and the two Sunday Prem games. That's not really a "near miss", it wasn't even the same day, and he made 8 times his stake.

If didn't cost you ~£8k, it cost you whatever your original bet was, until the match finished you had neither won nor lost the money, Heisenberg would be proud..

Lost out on £32k due to Reading versus Birmingham when I was 18.

I'm not bitter, not one bit.

Lost out on a £14k win off a £2(ish) acca a few years ago, think it was the early rounds of the League cup. Something like 14 or 15 folds, predicted a few 'shocks' got screwed by Stoke going out to someone rubbish, possibly Swindon? Did that happen recently? That may actually have something to do with my irrational dislike of Stoke.

Who hasn't?

My worst Saints one was:

We were 20/1 to win at Arsenal a few years back ('only' 10/1 in places but you could get 20/1). A massive price. Couldn't resist. Put 50 quid on.

Yep the game where by some miracle we went 2-1 up. Time is ticking down. The 3 mins of injury time are up. Ref is about to blow but lets Van Persie have one more hopeful whack towards goal...

You know the rest.

  • 3 weeks later...

My girlfriend and I place a single £10 accumulator on all the Saturday 3pm kick offs each week and we've so far won £2500+ this season.

Having said that, I remember a £5k(ish) accumulator that had all come in except for the late kick off featuring Everton.

90th minute and all I needed was an Everton goal, corner came in and someone poked it home resulting in me going absolute apesh*t as you can imagine ... only to realise shortly afterwards that the goal had been disallowed for a dubious 'foul' on the keeper. Gutted doesn't quite describe it.

Someone I know of won £52k in a 10+ team accy about ten years ago.

The final game he was waiting to come in was Man U v fulham at old Trafford. United went on to win 4-0 or something and he bought the pub a round in.

That was with a £10 bet

It's incredible that so many people on this thread were close to massive payouts then got robbed in the last minute. That must be less likely than just going all the way and winning it, of which we have had none so far.

Which is a good time for me to mention I won £216,400 on the accumulators a few years back.

Was out with a mate for his stag do in Birmingham last year the day Chelsea smashed Arse 6-0 and we put a load of bets on, I had a 5er that someone would get sent off in the game and got all excited when Gibbs was sent off instead of Chamberlain, after the game we were in the pub reviewing an acca he had and all the teams were winning except Bournemouth and Newcastle, both of whom scored in injury time to win my mate £1300 off a 2 quid bet, all the drinks were on him from then on that night! Cracking. I've never won one though.

Why would you put a 1/8 team in?
