SaintsFanNYC Posted 20 January, 2015 Share Posted 20 January, 2015 I'm a New York-based Saints fan who is making his first trip to St. Mary's next month for the match against West Ham (can't wait). I'm planning on coming to Southampton early on game day and checking out the stadium, though I hear they don't offer tours on match days. I am planning on going to the team store to blow some money, but I wanted to ask: Can you buy a personalized kit at the team megastore and pick it up that day (I've seen this at places like Bernebeu and Camp Nou) or can I only buy blank shirts or ones with current players on them? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
niceandfriendly Posted 20 January, 2015 Share Posted 20 January, 2015 Yeah you can get whatever name you wish on a shirt there and then, no worries
scdean Posted 20 January, 2015 Share Posted 20 January, 2015 Awesome mate. Enjoy your host experience. I make it over fron Australia occasionally and love it. Watch every game at home but there's nothing like supporting the saints at St Marys. Maybe shoit the club an email n tell them your story. May be able to sort you out with something. red&white56 Posted 20 January, 2015 Share Posted 20 January, 2015 Just make sure you get your picture taken next to Ted Bates statue. Enjoy your day.
JRM Posted 20 January, 2015 Share Posted 20 January, 2015 Fair play for making the trip over to see a game, I'm always interested in the stories behind our 'foreign' fans , why they support saints, the efforts you go to just to watch matches and the perception of the club & city where you are from. There is even an Italian saints supporters club which has been going for many years so it's not just a recent phenomenon. Depending on how long you are visiting for you might get an FA Cup game on 14th Feb as well. If you need any further advice on going to the game or travelling to Southampton post on here as I'm sure someone will be able to help. West Ham is a good game to choose, should be a full house under the lights with a good atmosphere, West Ham will bring 3100 away fans and sing songs you'll recognise if you've seen Green Street. The Cat Posted 20 January, 2015 Share Posted 20 January, 2015 If you have time I'd consider getting down the ground about 11am to meet the players and get autographs. That leaves plenty of time to walk into town for a few pre-match beers.
The Cat Posted 20 January, 2015 Share Posted 20 January, 2015 Also, did you realise that part of the reason Steve charges a membership fee for this site is so he could set up an overseas Saints fans travelling fund? This enables him to very generously refund the price of a match ticket for anyone coming from abroad. What a guy.

Saint_Abroad Posted 20 January, 2015 Share Posted 20 January, 2015 (edited) You pick a "blank" shirt off the wall, bring it over to a desk at the rear left (as you walk into the building) and there'll be a dude ironing on names and numbers. Pick up a CAMRA guide as TripAdvisor is useless for your pre-match pint. Edited 20 January, 2015 by Saint_Abroad

They print it whilst you're there, they have a bank of screen printing machines - one word of advice, try the shirt on, this season's kit is totally ridiculously sized, I was in a Large and a XL last season, both home and away this season are 2XL! There's a store at the ground and another downstairs in West Quay - but they don't shirt print in the one at the shopping centre.
Mr Dad Posted 20 January, 2015 Share Posted 20 January, 2015 I would contact them first and explain that you are over from New York. Sometimes, they sell out of popular letters/numbers so its best to warn them so they keep yours in reserve.

The9 Posted 20 January, 2015 Share Posted 20 January, 2015 Are you sure you're not just eating too many pies? I am eating many pies (and still fitting the 2XL from the summer), but I was not between the end of April (large crappy all-red home shirt reduced to £15) and June (new lovely stripey thing launched). There's also a separate group for Saints fans in New York - they often meet up at Legends Bar on 33rd street. Hope that helps and enjoy your trip! We had a guy over from Oz earlier in the season and his first match was the 8-0 win over Sunderland. Beat that.. Trev
SaintsFanNYC Posted 21 January, 2015 Author Share Posted 21 January, 2015 Good to know. I think I had heard Legends was the place to watch in the city, but now that NBC broadcasts every game it's so cozy to watch in bed at 7:30 on a Saturday morning.... I actually watched the Sunderland match on my phone while I was volunteering in Prospect Park in Brooklyn. There wasn't a ton of volunteering that actually happened as a result. the_emu Posted 21 January, 2015 Share Posted 21 January, 2015 Just to avoid disapointment it's worth mentioning the Mega Store isn't really Mega, in an American Super Sized way you might expect.
SaintsFanNYC Posted 22 January, 2015 Author Share Posted 22 January, 2015 It's not Mega?! I'm American. I need everything mega. I don't eat burgers with fewer than six patties and I refuse to order beer less than 30 oz in size.
