There was this bloke called Jimmy Savile kicking around a while back....

Robbing your kid's compensation is an extremely shít thing to do, but get some perspective.

Its just a headline pap, dont get your knickers in a twist. I think we all agree that Savile is a worse human being.

Unbelievable. How old was the son, i'm guessing under 18 and so the money was left in his mothers care or something...?

As he was 11 at the time of the his father's death in 2005, I assume it would have been kept by the Court system until he was 18. The reports says he handed it to his mother 'for safe keeping', presumably once the money had been released to him by the Court on his 18th birthday.

Erm, this is probably going to sound a bit heartless, but why were they given compensation anyway? I mean the guy died in a terrorist bombing which is horrific, but is that the state forking out to prevent claims over failure to provide civilian security or what? Who's stumping up the cash and why? Isn't that what life policies are for?

You could argue it's a failure of the state to use the tax revenue to prevent terrorism.

Not sure I agree with that but I can see the logic in it given the amount ****ed up the wall on non working equipment and failed IT contracts
