Sunday's Prem games

West Ham looking very strong. Some nice finishing and they won't be a push over when we play them at home in a few weeks.

Now as Saints fans do we be sensible and go for a City win in the knowledge that this will keep Arsenal at bay and City are still very likely to finish above us, or do we hope for an Arsenal upset which pegs City back so we are only 5 points adrift of them. :?

Better for City to win this one and then drop points against the likes of Burnley!

City win is ideal for us, leaves Arsenal 6 points and GD behind us I think and it will make them realise that for the first time in about 20 years that they may not make the CL. Also leaves them behind Spurs which should bring even more pressure on Wenger, who knows, maybe so much that he'll do something silly in the transfer window. Like buying another Chambers.

We won't catch Man City, they are significantly better than us. Arsenal on the other hand are a different matter...

Hang on a minute, you always used to say that you want saints to finish as high as they can so surely you'll be wanting an Arsenal win?

You are twisting that somewhat. I suggested... a Man City win allows Saints to have a better change of finishing above Arsenal than if Arsenal gain an extra point. We won't catch Man City, we have a good chance of staying above Arsenal, anything which helps us stay above Arsenal is a good thing.

Surely you agree with that... don't you...?

I know what result I want, but it wasn't me who has always been banging on about saints finishing as high as possible so wanting teams below us to be beating teams above us. Good to see I'm back off ignore by the way. :D

We won't catch Man City? Why not? They are 5 points ahead with a game in hand and we play each other on the last game of the season. That means that if they lose today, then it's max points dropped one more time than us as well as against us. Chances are that they will drop less than us, given the size of the squad, but at some stage we have to stop having this small club mentality at least we do for this season. Might as well dream and be unrealistic while sitting in 3rd with 16 games to go.

Dell sized mentality from MLG here.

You would have to be mental to want Arsenal to win, or even a draw. I still think both will finish above us, Arsenal narrowly, but if we finish above City I will walk across the pitch at Fratton wearing a Saints shirt with my knob hanging out.

"As possible" being the key bit. I don't think Saints are good enough to finish above Man City, I do think it is possible we could finish above Arsenal. So a Man City win helps the finishing above Arsenal situation to stand a better chance of happening.

We've played Man City this season and it proved what we should already know, they are better than us. That is still up for question with Arsenal, we're above them and beat them at St Mary's and lost narrowly at the Emirates. Its hardly a "small club mentality" to think that Man City will finish above our team but that we have a good chance of finishing above a team with Arsenal's resources.

If Man City lose today we will be 5 points behind them, their next game is away to Chelsea, the gap could then be down to 2 with second place in our own hands. Such a Dell sized mentality Matthew, I expected more from you, you always used to want the team below us to win.

You are putting words in my mouth, it is entirely dependant on the situation as to what I want. In days of Saints in relegation battles, I certainly did not want the teams below Saints to win. Again (as ever) you are twisting what I've said - significantly to suit your petty personal agenda towards me.

I don't have an agenda again against you, I find it odd that you seem to be dismissing our chances of finishing second when it could be in our own hands by the end of the next round of league games. I never realised you were so anti success, it never used to be this way, it was always about finishing as high as possible.

It's almost surreal. Some of us are worried about Arsenal closing the gap on us in the chase for a Champions League place, others are hoping we can go for runners-up spot in the league.

Doesn't seem so long ago we were going on about Wycombe's terrible pitch after a 0 - 0 draw, or bemoaning Papa Waigo's inability to stay onside.

Surreal?? I'd be disappointed with runners up! :)

Anyway, different City this 2nd half

Zambia 1-0 DR Congo

Posted at 51 mins

While we're on food, the ball is like a hot potato for Zambia and has been throughout. Too many heavy touches and loose passes stop them from getting any momentum, not that the score line shows it.

When a slick pass arrives, it finds Emmanuel Mayuka clean through on goal but he is wrongly given offside. That would have been interesting.
