Hockey_saint Posted 18 January, 2015 Share Posted 18 January, 2015 Nigel Adkins....Come on, he did mastermind back to back promotions....and he's a lovely bloke!
WinchesterSaint Posted 18 January, 2015 Share Posted 18 January, 2015 Alan Pardew for starting the ball rolling and laying the foundations and for signing Lambert and Fonte. He took a huge gamble dropping to league 1 when he was a premiership manager. Player wise it has to be Lambert or Fonte.
Dellman Posted 18 January, 2015 Share Posted 18 January, 2015 Its amazing to me that the Liebherr years have brought more stability to the Club than before in spite of having four different managers in a short time, and they've all been the right person at the right time, so I go for all four managers equally good signings, but as we climb up they get better and better
Crazy Diamond Posted 18 January, 2015 Share Posted 18 January, 2015 Lambert, no doubt for me. When we were taken over I remember thinking he would be an absolute dream signing. We needed a proven goalscorer, and he was the name everyone wanted. We got him. It just seemed to take off from there.
Ohio Saint Posted 18 January, 2015 Share Posted 18 January, 2015 No.1 signing in the Liebherr era would be Markus, closely followed by Kat. Yeah, they are not signings, I know. I still stick by it though. OK Serious answer, RK
Dellman Posted 18 January, 2015 Share Posted 18 January, 2015 Markus' best signing? His first, Nicola set us up, gave the belief and drove us on.Everything else followed

max_saints Posted 18 January, 2015 Share Posted 18 January, 2015 Definitely has to be SRL. His goals brought us from L1 to the championship to the PL, from relegation battlers to stability in the top 10. He never looked out of place everytime we went up a level and gave us moments like his goal against Scotland. A Saints legend of recent times. He was the symbol of our incredible rise and I, for one, won't be erasing him from memory or 'moving on' from him just because he chose to pursue a dream move to his boyhood club. And this is indicative of how great a player he was for us - I can't think of anyone that does hold it against him.
Badger Posted 18 January, 2015 Share Posted 18 January, 2015 Lambert epitomises our rise and was the talisman for it really, so he is the outstanding choice. Agree that Jose Fonte deserves recognition for his part in our rise and his continuing role. But Nigel Adkins deserves the second spot behind Lambert for his part in our resurgence. CWD Posted 18 January, 2015 Share Posted 18 January, 2015 In terms of value as well as quality, I'd say Steven Davis. Lambert and Fonte were big money signings at the time, we paid like £800k for Davis which is an absolute steal.
hutch Posted 19 January, 2015 Share Posted 19 January, 2015 It has to be Lambert, but I'm surprised at only one mention for Rahdi Jaidi. Lest we forget, at that time our defence was absolutely woeful, particularly from set pieces. His signing took a while to come through, due I think to work permit issues, but once he arrived our defence was transformed, and that was the start of what it is today. I think, like Fonte, he also stepped down a league or two to join us (from Birmingham?) Th only thing against him was his age. It happens to us all. Black Sea Saint Posted 19 January, 2015 Share Posted 19 January, 2015 Top ten: Alan Pardew Radhi Jaidi Rickie Lambert Jose Fonte Nigel Adkins Steven Davis Nathaniel Clyne Ronald Koeman Toby Alderweireld Graziano Pelle You include Pardew and Adkins but not Pochettino. He for me is the person that took us to the next level. If only he'd been sacked he'd be a legend
Redslo Posted 19 January, 2015 Share Posted 19 January, 2015 I am hoping the best signing of the Liebherr era is yet to come.
The9 Posted 19 January, 2015 Share Posted 19 January, 2015 As title says who has in your opinion been the best player signed during the Liebherr era? Best is subjective I know but I'm think along the lines of cost, impact made in their time here, Important goals scored and ability. I think Lambert is probably close but Jose Fonte has to be right up there to. Both players that just seemed to step up and keep on improving season on season in their time here. Any others? Lambert, Steven Davis, Fonte, in that order. Three absolute bargains.
