doddisalegend Posted 18 January, 2015 Share Posted 18 January, 2015 As title says who has in your opinion been the best player signed during the Liebherr era? Best is subjective I know but I'm think along the lines of cost, impact made in their time here, Important goals scored and ability. I think Lambert is probably close but Jose Fonte has to be right up there to. Both players that just seemed to step up and keep on improving season on season in their time here. Any others? SNSUN Posted 18 January, 2015 Share Posted 18 January, 2015 Steven Davis has to be up there. Also Clyne.
Danish Saint Posted 18 January, 2015 Share Posted 18 January, 2015 Clyne for me... In the lower leauges we had Richardson, Butterfield, James(!) and Otsemobor all trying to get it right... Clyne came in and even saw off Chambers to make the spot his.

S-Clarke Posted 18 January, 2015 Share Posted 18 January, 2015 Jose Fonte. Still here, been there all the way with us. Improved and grew with the club. We got him for a £1m and he's now an international CB and one of the best CB's in the league. Scored some massive goals, including that Brighton winner. In the same way as Lambert, you're not going to ever get better value at £1m. Incredible to think what he's done for us these 5/6 years.

nta786 Posted 18 January, 2015 Share Posted 18 January, 2015 Taider. Helped us get rid of Osvaldo, so he had his benefits... In all seriousness, Lambert for me- instrumental to or double promotion from League 1 to Prem, and even proved to the country he could make it at PL Level legend. Saint Charlie Posted 18 January, 2015 Share Posted 18 January, 2015 Has to be Lambert because of the background he had and what he has gone onto achieve. Nobody could have predicted that. As brilliant as Fonte, Davis, Clyne etc have been, they had far better track records than Lambert did. Without him we wouldn't probably be in the PL. dronskisaint Posted 18 January, 2015 Share Posted 18 January, 2015 It has to be Ricky Lambert The quality of the other contenders is testimony to some excellent buying decisions but I can't think of anyone who contributed more to us being in the PL. CB Fry Posted 18 January, 2015 Share Posted 18 January, 2015 Has to be Lambert. Apart from the goals he was, as a flagship signing, symbolic of our intent to spend our way up the divisions. Later he became a symbol of how the nucleus of a L1 team could establish themselves as a Premier league force. I, for one, won't be "getting over" Rickie Lambert any time soon. Jimmy_D Posted 18 January, 2015 Share Posted 18 January, 2015 Very close for me between Lambert and Fonte. Today I'm saying Lambert, but tomorrow I could easily say Fonte. Goes to Fonte outright if he leads us into the Champion's League.

SaintBobby Posted 18 January, 2015 Share Posted 18 January, 2015 Lambert is the obvious, probably right, choice. But at some point, we might make a £20m+profit on Clyne. If we don't (or until we do), we have England's best right-back in our team. That's pretty tasty.
John B Posted 18 January, 2015 Share Posted 18 January, 2015 I would have agreed with you at the end of last season as I think he was one of our best ever signings but if we get to the CL I may change my mind to Fonte

CB Saint Posted 18 January, 2015 Share Posted 18 January, 2015 Tough question this. SRL for his journey from L1 journeyman to international striker, Fonte because against the odds, he just seems to get better and better each season. Then there is Clyne, Davis and big Vic sod it, my choice is SRL just for the story. Oh and don't forget les reed

krissyboy31 Posted 18 January, 2015 Share Posted 18 January, 2015 Without a doubt Rickie Lambert but ALL the managers at the time were excellent acquisitions and took us to another level. KelvinsRightGlove Posted 18 January, 2015 Share Posted 18 January, 2015 Sir Rickie, with Fonte a closely run second. Massive mancrush on the pair of them. I don't care that Rickie is gone, he is still a hero, as Fry said I shan't be getting over him anytime soon. I also hold no ill feelings towards him for going to Liverpool, I can't honestly say I wouldn't have done the same in his position. Koeman has made a cracking start, if he stays and carries on in a similar vein he may well get himself into the reckoning. What he has done this season, against the backdrop of the summer is stunning. I said yesterday, for me, Koeman has been the best signing in the league this season. Soulful Odin Posted 18 January, 2015 Share Posted 18 January, 2015 Without Lambert we probably would still be fighting for the Play offs in the Championship. Any other answer is ludicrous IMO, he had team mates of course but he pretty much pulled us up through the divisions and won us a cup. Yes the other transfers are better players now , have made/ will make more profit but without Rickie we wouldn't be anywhere near where we are now
SuperMikey Posted 18 January, 2015 Share Posted 18 January, 2015 Fonte has been incredibly consistent and is still a key player for us, but it has to be Lambert. Without his goals we wouldn't be where we are today.
Saint 76er Posted 18 January, 2015 Share Posted 18 January, 2015 TBH the real answer must surely be Nigel Adkins. From the bottom of L1 to the PL in consecutive seasons was more than we could have dreamed of and we could not possibly be where we are today without Adkins contribution. Beyond that SRL most important player and going forward SRK* may become the most important signing in club history as we head towards the uncharted stratosphere of football. SRK* ... Don't worry the Queen can still knight foreigners ( I think!).
