View From The Top Posted 17 January, 2015 Posted 17 January, 2015 That boy is some player. Whilst I don't want Morgan to go it's good to know we have a player like Harry coming through who looks as if he'll be good enough to fill the void ( I appreciate that he's not as good as Morgan yet & that Morgan is top, top draw).
Saint_clark Posted 17 January, 2015 Posted 17 January, 2015 Yep. Also got players like McQueen, Gape coming through who seem to be rated by the management. Ward-Prowse could also adapt his game to play a bit further back.
shurlock Posted 17 January, 2015 Posted 17 January, 2015 Got a long, long way to go before he reaches Morgan's level (assuming he does) - he certainly won't be ready to step into Morgan's shoes next season when, for all intents and purposes, Morgan will be gone. Which is no criticism of Reed.
Baird of the land Posted 17 January, 2015 Posted 17 January, 2015 Very talented but still think he has to work on his range of passing. Thought he looked better today once he had more freedom with Cork acting as the shield. Personally if Cork signs his new contract and Reed keeps coming on as a player, that would make the expected departure of Morgan more palatable.
Turkish Posted 17 January, 2015 Posted 17 January, 2015 Harry Harry Harry Harry Harry Reed Leslie Leslie Leslie Leslie Leslie Reed Harry Harry Harry Harry Harry Reed Leslie Leslie Leslie Leslie Leslie Reed Etc *does silly hand movements*

Dunno if Morgan is the right comparison really, even Koeman seems a bit sniffy of Reed's technical game. Seems more of a Cork at the mo.
shurlock Posted 17 January, 2015 Posted 17 January, 2015 Dunno if Morgan is the right comparison really, even Koeman seems a bit sniffy of Reed's technical game. Seems more of a Cork at the mo. Spot on.
St Chalet Posted 17 January, 2015 Posted 17 January, 2015 Morgan was clearly a talent when he joined us, that said Harry is a better player at the same age. Still think we'll see Jordie Classie replace Morgan in the short / medium term.
for_heaven's_Saint Posted 17 January, 2015 Posted 17 January, 2015 Are they the same style of player? I wouldn't say so.

Still think we'll see Jordie Classie replace Morgan in the short / medium term. They're difficult to compare - it was obvious Morgan had technical ability when he joined but needed to get to grip with the physical side of the game. Reed needs to work on his passing and technique; but has the discipline and aggression. Reedy could be the player that Simon Gillett never was
DREAMTEAM2014 Posted 17 January, 2015 Posted 17 January, 2015 i said before the game that he should start deserves his place, his work rate is tremendous, can see him in a england 1st team jersey in a couple of years never backs out of a tackle definitely same mold of a young paul scholes
sandwichsaint Posted 17 January, 2015 Posted 17 January, 2015 Are they the same style of player? I wouldn't say so. More David Batty than Morgan Schneiderlin, in the nicest possible way. Fantastic today, hands off 'big clubz'.
CityRanger Posted 17 January, 2015 Posted 17 January, 2015 Harry Reed is the 2nd coming of David Batty. Tackles, passes and moves like him. If he turns out like Batty we have one he'll of a player. Not worried about Morgan going now, we can use the money to strengthen other areas.

Pancake Posted 17 January, 2015 Posted 17 January, 2015 Any one got the stats to hand of our win ratio when Morgan has NOT played this season (and last?)
krissyboy31 Posted 17 January, 2015 Posted 17 January, 2015 Also don't get the Scholes comparisons. Short and ginger, what's not to compare?!?! As stated above he looks a very David Batty or Peter Reid type player but completely different to Morgan.
sandwichsaint Posted 17 January, 2015 Posted 17 January, 2015 Harry Reed is the 2nd coming of David Batty. Tackles, passes and moves like him. If he turns out like Batty we have one he'll of a player. Not worried about Morgan going now, we can use the money to strengthen other areas. Wowzer!
sandwichsaint Posted 17 January, 2015 Posted 17 January, 2015 Please elaborate Sandwich... Great minds, and all that. Glad to see somebody else that can see beyond the hair colour!
SuperMikey Posted 17 January, 2015 Posted 17 January, 2015 Harry was excellent today, very impressed with his performance. As mentioned above he did look better once Cork came on to play the holding role as Reed lacks a bit of the physicality to play deeper like he was asked to today. Great energy, put himself about and didn't stop for 90 minutes. Not quite heir to Morgan's throne but definitely a good option in the midfield for games like this that were played a lot in the middle of the pitch.
simo Posted 17 January, 2015 Posted 17 January, 2015 Has the one thing all our youngsters always have and that's the confidence in his ability!
Turkish Posted 17 January, 2015 Posted 17 January, 2015 Heir Apparent to Paul Scholes? Hair apparent to Paul Scholes.
CityRanger Posted 17 January, 2015 Posted 17 January, 2015 Sandwich, it sounds as though we park our cars in the same garage lol
st alex Posted 17 January, 2015 Posted 17 January, 2015 Short and ginger, what's not to compare?!?! As stated above he looks a very David Batty or Peter Reid type player but completely different to Morgan. Think that's about the only comparison people could make between the two, and of course that they're both midfielders. Certainly wouldn't compare their tackling ability as scholes was woeful at tackling, and Reed looks a bit better in that department, but still early days. Maybe he'll also develop into a midfielder who can't tackle.
saint1977 Posted 17 January, 2015 Posted 17 January, 2015 Morgan was clearly a talent when he joined us, that said Harry is a better player at the same age. Still think we'll see Jordie Classie replace Morgan in the short / medium term. Think Koeman wants to sign Clasie although different midfielder to Morgan. However, didn't at least one of our Feyenoord visitors say that Clasie wouldn't be cut out for the PL physically?
JibMcdo Posted 17 January, 2015 Posted 17 January, 2015 Hair apparent to Paul Scholes. Think that was the joke already.
Ludwig Posted 17 January, 2015 Posted 17 January, 2015 What about Jedinak as a replacement? If I recall correctly, his passing/tackling stats are great. Better than Morgan earlier in the season at least.
Shufty Zubrik Posted 17 January, 2015 Posted 17 January, 2015 Looked to me that when Cork came on, Koeman had Harry man mark Sissoko. Kept seeing Sissoko in right back position to try and get the ball and Harry telling him to stay there as once in our half he would be dominated by a 19 year old genius. Respect to Koeman tactically and to Harry for being able to stop Sissoko playing.
Smirking_Saint Posted 17 January, 2015 Posted 17 January, 2015 Dunno if Morgan is the right comparison really, even Koeman seems a bit sniffy of Reed's technical game. Seems more of a Cork at the mo. This IMO, his game is nowhere near as expansive as Morgans and he doesnt have the pure athleticism either. Very very good player, but more of a little terrier. I have to say it, as good as he is I dont see the 'best player to come out of the academy' just yet.
SarniaSaint Posted 17 January, 2015 Posted 17 January, 2015 Thought he put in a great performance for only his second start...........definitely one for the future and highly rated by the club.
Graffito Posted 18 January, 2015 Posted 18 January, 2015 Great little player. Not sure why people need him or JWP to be like Morgan to replace him, you just adjust the way you play. Morgan is the best CM by far. I think he, Matic and Wanyama are the best CMs in the league by some distance to be honest and a key part of why we're up there. . Toure?
thefuriousb Posted 18 January, 2015 Posted 18 January, 2015 Harry Reed is the 2nd coming of David Batty. Tackles, passes and moves like him. If he turns out like Batty we have one he'll of a player. Not worried about Morgan going now, we can use the money to strengthen other areas. Yes, much more a David Batty or Claude Makalele type of player
Andy Durman Posted 18 January, 2015 Posted 18 January, 2015 Great little player. He has terrific technique and good range of passes. He keeps the tempo of the game. Strong and a real terrier. Fantastic in a tackle. The negatives - No matter how good your heading technique is, if you're no tall you won't get the ball. Heading is an important part of midfield and he doesn't win many one on one headers. Morgan and Wanyama are terrific in the air. He's also not that fast over 50 metres, but he's quick over 5 metres
a1ex2001 Posted 18 January, 2015 Posted 18 January, 2015 Like the batty comparisons he might have fallen slightly short at international level but at club level he was quality if reed turns out to be if that standard I'll be very happy!
Lazlo78 Posted 18 January, 2015 Posted 18 January, 2015 I have no idea how Reed's career will pan out or what level he can reach, but right now he is making a difference in this team. Koeman will know his strengths and weaknesses and deploy him when needed either for tactical reasons or because of injuries/suspensions and he seems ready for the challenge. Let's hope he continues his development so that he can make a difference over the course of an entire season with full playing time - that would be amazing...
david in sweden Posted 18 January, 2015 Posted 18 January, 2015 That boy is some player. I agree - given time . TBH I wouldn't want to see him take the responsibilty of totally replacing Morgan next week, but he looks to have tremendous potential.
Wes Tender Posted 18 January, 2015 Posted 18 January, 2015 Sandwich, it sounds as though we park our cars in the same garage lol Is one of your wives cheating on one of you?
RobM Posted 18 January, 2015 Posted 18 January, 2015 The problem we'll face in trying to sign a replacement to Morgan - and the very reason we'll lose him in the first place - is he's the sort of player all the top-10 are looking for, except City and Chelski. It's what Arsenal and Utd are crying out for, for instance. If there was a player able to replace him, I'm sure they would have already been linked to one of these clubs and we'll have a fight on our hands. So IMO, right now, focusing on the development of our existing options is a better bet just in case we can't find a replacement. We MUST also keep Wanyama; losing Morgan will hurt, but we'll survive. Losing both would be a disaster.
simo Posted 18 January, 2015 Posted 18 January, 2015 I think him and Victor could be a formidable partnership given time
