Yuki Posted 23 March, 2015 Posted 23 March, 2015 Kelvis played well against Burnley and showed his quality and spirit. I hadn't seen him play before but the TV experts over here said he was an experienced goalkeeper and will be reliable back up. I am happy with that and the Saints seem to be too!! Yuki

Ummm, well wasn't the suggestion that if you were not in the first team Poch wasn't particularly interested in the players ? Maybe it was the same for his coaching staff ?

Beyond that and its a major pain.

Rather than a general member of society going to the hospital and undergoing an x-Ray and several other excersises, FF is likely to undergone a multitude of tests and get opinions from many experts. He's not likey to play again this season so why the big rush?

We normally only get an injury update at the pre-match press conference/interviews that the manager does. The Everton press conference and interview will be on 2nd April. We may get it before perhaps through social media, but they may still not know for certain what is wrong and as we've seen with Rodriguez its pretty pointless putting a timeframe on it.

Either way he is likely to be out for atleast a few weeks. They'll be updates when they have some

In theory we could beg for an emergency loan but as MLG says it won't be granted as we have an incredibly experienced keeper (560 odd appearances) on the bench, and if we lose him another keeper who has already played in Premier League matches and elsewhere. Plus Cropper. None of those players qualify as "the bloke from the front row". I think Newcastle had two keepers down and had to put a kid in earlier this season. Gazza with Cropper on the bench? We'd have to lump it I'm afraid. It's a pain not having our first (or second) choice keeper but there is no emergency here therefore no emergency loan would be granted. (We might still sign an out of contract player, but I doubt it.) I do get it I was talking about if Kelvin was injured not with him here, I just don't see why any club would have more than 3 keepers on their books as this rule favours those who don't have development players then? A couple of years ago didn't man city get fulop when given was injured and hart was on loan.? Surely man city of all teams have some depth? Better off with just three and emergency loan someone of experience in the case of injury rather than be forced into playing players before they are ready? Anyway all rather invalid unless KD gets injured! I was only joking about Cech anyway, just making a point that one of the best keepers in the world is sitting on the bench and that it is not outside the realms of possibility that someone could get him on an emergency loan.

Yet as soon as it got sorted down here, he tore up the contract (metaphorically) and stayed with us and it doesn't seem like he even needed to think about it much. I think he genuinely loves the club, fans and area of Southampton. Anyone who says Kelvin isn't loyal is a bit cynical. A true Saints legend IMO.
Roadkill Posted 24 March, 2015 Posted 24 March, 2015 I'm just recovering from a knee injury and I can add a little more on what I experienced from a diagnosis perspective. My knee swelled up very quickly which apparently is an indicator of ligament damage. They test if you can resist them pushing against your leg from several angles, but it's difficult to test for damage to the ACL when the knee is swollen because of its location. It needed an MRI and then analysis to determine that (luckily for me) I just had torn muscles around the knee. Although a scan will be done in a matter of days it can be a week or more for the radiologist to write the report, for a private patient anyway. For Saints this will obviously be accelerated. Hopefully it's not serious for Fraser and it's just strained ligaments, but I fear the worst

It is excruciatingly painful and is never quite the same again, although I didn't have quite the treatment I expect Fraser will if he has the same injury. However, i imagine that as a keeper it could be pretty drastic with all the jumping and landing. Still, fingers crossed. Watch out for the Davis howlers to come! ;-)

You only have to look at his quotes at the time when he could see the "save our saints" collections and his appreciation at the fans pitching together to help keep the team and club going.

There is no opportunity at all for Prem clubs to take players on loan outside the transfer window, emergency or not. Emergency loans are a one-way street towards Football League clubs. Teams don't need to register under 21s on the Premier League player list anyway (though clubs do, presumably as it's easier to do it in bulk than on individual cases if they need to add someone), and it's somewhat unlikely given the separate need for registration for Development squad matches that the Prem won't know how many keepers a side has on their books anyway. We also can't recall Boruc outside the transfer window due to it being a season long loan. The bloke gets beaten at his near post with startling regularity, is a far more ponderous kicker with less range, is a lot less quick with his reflexes, and has a kicking habit of chucking the ball into open play to make clearances which is more of a risk than a kick from hands every time he does it. I will readily accept that he's more adept at collecting crosses near the edge of the 6 yard box and command his area at this stage, and he saved the two routine efforts and one decent dive asked of him last weekend, but we're looking at 2 months of this.

Watch out for the Davis howlers to come! ;-) 15 years (and two tidying up surgeries) removed from having my ligaments ruined for me (some ACL damage and PCL was all over the place), the only thing wrong with my knee is that I'm bone-on-bone where my knee's smooth cartilage was also smashed to pieces - the ligaments are absolutely fine now and the physio actually told me to build them up to protect the rest of it! The first 3 years afterwards were pretty dodgy though.

Section V.7.6.2 of the Premier league rules state "the Temporary Transfer of a goalkeeper which in its absolute discretionthe Board may allow in circumstances it considers to be exceptional;" This was mooted by Newcastle Utd before Xmas, and the understanding was that exceptional circumstances would mean that the club had only one fit professional keeper. So although technically such a transfer can take place, there is no way this could be applied to Saints since we clearly currently have at least three fit pro keepers (Davis, Gazza and Cropper) not forgetting Will Britt and Chris Johns are also probably classified as professionals. Boruc won't play for us again. It wasnt a happy ending. Otherwise agree with all you say re Kelvin and Forster. Nobody gets better after 14 months not playing in their late 30s and whilst he made good saves on Saturday, he always could. Its the other aspects.

He'll need to be focused for 90 mins even if he has relatively little to do for most of the afternoon.
