buctootim Posted 15 January, 2015 Share Posted 15 January, 2015 I don't expect the ploughed field helped. They're not called the 'Tractor Boys' for nothing.
The9 Posted 15 January, 2015 Share Posted 15 January, 2015 Disappointing display, but got the result. I would be more disappointed if i was an Ipswich fan as they were next to useless. Our midfield was very in expereinced and they controlled it. Disappointing display? We were bloody superb! Scored early and strangled them to death without looking remotely troubled. Pitch looked bad but it actually didn't bobble very much and in the second half the wind was more of a factor. As it was for the drive back from Portman Road, along with the torrential rain and lorries displacing spray all over everything. Thankfully I got to the car by 10pm (£1 car park next to the ground!) and we were home in Hedge End by 1am. Can't understand people saying it was boring, it was an excellent performance and Ipswich's failure to create anything was due to our superb defensive work, they had no ideas and no hope. When we went forward we looked threatening and Steven Davis again proved why he is so important to us by keeping the tempo high when we went forward. Real shame about Wanyama's injury, hopefully Cork's comeback will be complete this weekend and without midweek games and thanks to the FA Cup 4th Round, maybe Wanyama, Alderweireld and Schneiderlin might only miss a couple of League matches. The9 Posted 15 January, 2015 Share Posted 15 January, 2015 After the magnificent display at OT this brought us back to earth - a competent if dull performance. Lots of unforced errors and poor passing but solid at the back. Why on earth can't our midfield players hit shots on target? Davis, VW and JWP all had chances to test the keeper and didn't. I thought Fonte and long were very good and Reed acquitted himself well but some of the other players looked very ordinary last night. Still, we did the job and march on. It was good to see the replays of 1976 and the Stokes' goal. Tadic and Long both faffed in the box when they should have shot, other than that, everything was difficult with the wind shifting the ball randomly. Benny F Posted 15 January, 2015 Share Posted 15 January, 2015 Got to say I was impressed with Reed and given that Schneidergun and Wanyama are out for a few weeks, we will need him more than ever. Reed in for Newcastle game with Davis and JWP/Cork.
Give it to Ron Posted 15 January, 2015 Share Posted 15 January, 2015 I watched the game - read the match thread gosh we have some right plums supporting us...... Was a solid but not flattering performance - great defensively.

trousers Posted 15 January, 2015 Share Posted 15 January, 2015 Disappointing display? We were bloody superb! Scored early and strangled them to death without looking remotely troubled. Agreed. I'm not getting the "we weren't that great" perspective from some. IMO it was a masterclass in how a premier league team should have dealt with the opposition and conditions for a mid-week away cup replay that is sandwiched between two tricky long distance away games in the league. Ok, so we might have won by two or three if we'd been more ruthless in and around their box, but when we're playing in 2nd gear (no doubt under instruction from RK) we're never going to be over committed or clinical in attack. A professional job done.

I was disappointed, I thought wer could have pushed on and scored more. Generally our passing was sloppy and had Ipswich shown real cup fighting bottle and got the ball in the box we would have struggled. I doubt there was a neutral who would think we were a top side and probably wonder what all the fuss is about. Yes it was a clinical display but boring and frustrating as hell

Foxstone Posted 15 January, 2015 Share Posted 15 January, 2015 No need for us to have played at full tilt as Ipswich were not troubling us unduly.. Also, the pitch was awful, the weather conditions were terrible and it was the type of night when you just had to go and get a job done in the best way you can - And we did that very well indeed. After a dire match, I think it will be a while before the BBC shows us again Not helped by the soporific "commentating" by our old friend Lawro. He basically sounded bored rigid even before the game got underway. He seemed to think there was a lack of quality, he may have mentioned it once or twice. hackedoff Posted 15 January, 2015 Share Posted 15 January, 2015 3.92 million people watched that live on the beeb. After a dire match, I think it will be a while before the BBC shows us again Only one reason the BBC showed this match and that was out of the games last night, that was the biggest potential shock. Unfortunately they didn't get it, but " we " got a bit of a payday. Ahhhhhh, the wonders of the FA cup !
Whitey Grandad Posted 15 January, 2015 Share Posted 15 January, 2015 It takes two teams to make an exciting game of football. Ipswich just weren't up to it.
