Newcastle United vs Saints - Build up

Given the injuries today it would be great to just get something out of the game, keep the good run going and then have a two week break before the next run of league games.

Got to start prioritising league over the cup.

Don't worry. I don't think we'll make any progress in the cup today at all.

Be very happy with a draw, despite what the lunatics on here think they are still a top half side and we've got a lot of players out. A point away from home against a top half side is a good result whatever the circumstances.

Just about sums it up for me. The North East has never been much of a happy hunting ground.

just look back at the everton one

01 Davis

10 Mané

32 McCarthy

33 Targett

38 McQueen

45 Seager

46 Gape

Will be better than that today, late tests permitting. McQueen was excellent midweek, deserves a bench spot, but then so do most of the above youngsters and then there is Hesketh too

Any streams for today. I'm in Spain so can't watch sky

Yeah definitely, this will be live as soon as the program starts; http://riderhd.org/

Completely HD quality but the only issue is the fact it's about 30 seconds behind real time, so if you have anyone else around refreshing Twitter then you could have anything a bit ruined.

Pretty sure Targett will be tired after Wednesday. Bertrand will start.

Tadic will be on the bench. Elia will start. Reed deserves a start.

I think there's room for both Cork and Reed.

Forster

Clyne, Fonte, Gardos, Bertrand

Davis, Cork, Reed

Long, Elia

Pelle

No place for Reed.

Sorry I didn't have time to correct or explain myself. Now I can.

My worry is how fit Cork is. Can he and Davis control midfield. I like a middle 3 of Davis, Cork and Reed, but Davis doesn't play on the left as well. I would like to see then a triangle with Davis playing at the top behind Pelle. JWP ON THE RIGHT WITH Clyne overlapping. That works.

So my new line up is:

Forster

Clyne, Fonte, Gardos, Bertrand

Cork, Reed

JWP, Davis, Elia

Pelle

I would feel very frustrated if I was Long after performing so well in mid week.

Difficult team selection and it does show how many options we have even with 6 players out.

Brilliant thank you

QPR v Manure on at the moment. Couldn't get rid of ads overlaying on iPad but went to full screen and gone

Cheers

One other point I wanted to raise is our squad depth.

It will be interesting in 3 years time to look back at this squad and realise just how good some of these youngsters really are.

Untried at the moment, but when given the chance they step up and why? Well because they are good enough. We just don't recognise them at the moment.

Reed will be playing for England in 3 years time and Targett is already a very reliable player.

Just had this text of a Newcastle supporting mate:

"We have Cisse and Tiote out in African cup of nations, De Jong, Rolando Aarons, Ryan Taylor, Steven Taylor, Obertan and Abeid all out injured - I make that 8 that would potentially start! We are also on bare bones! I'd take a draw anyday. "

Thanks. So many posters here go on about our depleted squad, but neglect to mention that Nouveau Château United are equally crocked.

More worried it is so lightweight rather than the possession element.

Both - to be fair. Reed doesn't have Morgan's composure to let us build slowly from the back and JWP/Davis are unlikely to get far enough forward to support and collect Pelle's second balls if we can't play through midfield. Hopefully Tadic and Elia play a little narrower than normal.
