Newcastle United vs Saints - Build up

In the USA the game is live on NBC (think BBC/ITV). Anyone with a TV will be able to watch it (won't even need a poxy license!). This is the first time Saints have been live on terrestrial TV over here. Nice one.

Def need to win 4-0 now. I don't see why not. An early goal. Attack. Job done.

Lived in Newcastle for a bit. Went to the one when Kevin Davies put us ahead only for an aging John Barnes to notch a brace to win it for them. The next one I went to, Doddsy was sent off early doors, Shearer smashed in the penalty and taunted us in the away section, ****. They won 4-0. I walked home in my saints shirt getting dogs abuse from all the barcodes in the bars. Hoping for a with tomorrow to ease my pain.

A key component in today's game will surely rest with Jack Cork. He had 45 mins. run out with U21's in the week, but here's hoping he can last a full game - without further injury.

Our midfield looks a bit lightweight and inexperienced without Victor and Morgan, and Toby's absence doesn't make life any easier.

If we come through unscathed, and with the points - it'll rate as a game on a par with MU win (IMHO) but for different reasons. A chance for Academy lads to make their name, if it doesn't go horribly wrong.

Its gonna be our 3rd win on tv this week I have no doubt.

2-0 win with Elia getting on the score sheet, I think this might be his break out game and setting up Pelle.

Will be an interesting battle with Betrand v Jaanmat on our left, the battle of the full backs but obviously him being ex-fey ron will know how to negate.

Looks like it will be cold up there at kick off (accuweather real feel -3c) so drink some whisky or vodka if your going.

This was our team for the Everton game as a comparison when we were hit with injuries, not too bad, we've lost Toby but can add Corky, also have Elia and Tadic.

23 Forster

02 Clyne

06 Fonte

03 Yoshida

21 Bertrand

17 Alderweireld

28 Reed

08 Davis

16 Ward-Prowse (Targett - 80' )

07 Long (Gape - 89' )

19 Pellè

Good call. Belief / spirit is also through the roof at the moment, whereas we were on the back of 5 defeats and a draw when starting this one. Given Newcastle's own run and loss of Cisse the first goal howver it comes will be vital

@bigadamsport: #saintsfc start day without 6 senior players - likely to be 7 by kick-off with Tadic struggling & Bertrand may need a fitness test!

Who are the 7 then? Morgan, Toby, Big Vic, Tadic and possibly Bertrand. Who are the other 2? JRod? Plus 1?

No cos he includes Jay Rod, Mane and Yoshida who were never available anyway !

They did the same on South Today. While its true its not exactly unknown already.

So its those three plus Toby, Vic and Morgan.

Yeah thanks mate - had discounted those players anyway. NOT as bad as he makes out then, still think we can get a win today.

Just looking at Newcastle's squad, who actually scores their goals? Doesn't seem to be anyone prolific in their squad. I know Cisse has scored a few in recent games but is at the ACON

Perez has 5, Sissoko 3 and everyone else 2 or less. Riviere has looked lively in recent games

newcastle are a weird side

beat chelsea at home and were very good at stamford bridge.

yet, can be absolute garbage in other games

1-1

Yes, very true, either put in a good performance, or are completely ****. It's not a ground we've won at much in recent years, in fact I can't remember a win since a 2-1 victory when Le Tissier and Maddison scored, probably about 20 years ago now!

Be very happy with a draw, despite what the lunatics on here think they are still a top half side and we've got a lot of players out. A point away from home against a top half side is a good result whatever the circumstances.

if sissoko is on it today, they could do well. He is very good. Their striker, Ayoze perez is pretty decent. wonder if cabella will turn up

also, Krul is already back

they look suspect at the back and they have a huge injury list

would be disappointing if we do not score at least

I think a point will be a decent result, at least by the time we play we will know the results of Man Utd, Spurs and Liverpool. Looks like victories for all 3 on paper, but we know it never works like that. Can see Villa grabbing a point

The 6 are Vic, Morgan, Toby, Yoshida, Mane and Mayuka, but should also list JRod and even Gallagher, so thats 8 already (admittedly you could argue Gallagher is not a "senior"), so if we lose Tadic and Bertrand that's 10 players out altogether, and clearly another couple (Cork and Davis) who are not 100%. We really have to learn for next season, this is the second year running when we have tried to work with a ridiculously small squad, been brilliant when our best eleven or so are available. We are 3rd at the moent if we can get through today without losing this would be a terrific achievement.

Pretty sure Targett will be tired after Wednesday. Bertrand will start.

Tadic will be on the bench. Elia will start. Reed deserves a start.

I think there's room for both Cork and Reed.

Forster

Clyne, Fonte, Gardos, Bertrand

Davis, Cork, Reed

Long, Elia

Pelle

No place for Reed.

If Bertrand is having a fitness test, there must be a doubt if he'll play at all, let alone start.

Given the injuries today it would be great to just get something out of the game, keep the good run going and then have a two week break before the next run of league games.

Got to start prioritising league over the cup.

Yeah should throw the game against palace. Cups are so retro.

We've had 5 amazing years but this season has got to be the best chance Saints have ever had to do something really extraordinary..which could change the future of the club for years to come. To be honest I think we should forget the cup and focus 100% on the league. Never thought I'd say that but chances like we currently have don't come around often!

Are we any more depleted than when we beat Everton?

This game is bigger than Everton as they were so out of form and we were at home. If we can win at Newcastle today even I may start to believe we can make top 4. I really hope we can take the 3 points but if I am honest I would probably if offered now take a draw.

COYR 1-0 win will do please.
