Benny F Posted 15 January, 2015 Share Posted 15 January, 2015 Agree with the team except for Elia. I think at this early stage of his saints career, and given we are away to Newcastle with Shneiderwinner, Wantank and Aldewierboss out, Long might be better to defend from the front. Elia to come on second half without pressure and to destroy Newcastle's fullbacks.
a1ex2001 Posted 15 January, 2015 Share Posted 15 January, 2015 1997. Blimey that was difficult watching we were horrible in that game, That Newcastle side had some serious style about it! Le God the difference as he was so often that goal looked effortless but I reckon most players would have stuck it in the crowed of scuffed it to the keeper fantastic chip from Van Gobbel to tee him up. Village Saint Posted 15 January, 2015 Share Posted 15 January, 2015 Tough one to call. Missing Morgan, Vic & Toby is huge for us defensively, and Newcastle are so unpredictable. ----------Forster Clyne Fonte Gardos Bertrand -------Cork-----Reed -----------Davis JWP---------------------Elia -----------Pelle Off day for Newcastle, another clean sheet for Saints, 0-1. Saints labeled boring in the press, Koeman happy with "amazing schpirit and organisations" United drop points at QPR, fans have a meltdown. This should be the starting line-up. If it is I too predict 1-0 to Saints. United dropping points at QPR would be excellent but seems unlikely.

Pedro Posted 16 January, 2015 Share Posted 16 January, 2015 By not making the yellow shirt available for sale, the club can't be accused of profittering on a one off but it does look a good kit especially for a Wembley cup final.

Lets B Avenue Posted 16 January, 2015 Share Posted 16 January, 2015 Why are we having to play in a 3rd yellow kit? Earlier in the season we both played in our home shirts... what's changed? Perhaps its as a result of the referee's report from that game and maybe due to this one being on TV and under lights. I'm sure we've played up there before in our regular home kit. The last 2 seasons, but we didn't have stripes. Back in the 60s both away teams regularly changed, until we played them in the Fairs Cup (Europa League of its day) 2nd leg at The Dell, Jan 1970. We had beaten them 2 weeks earlier in the FA Cup 3rd rd 3-0, when they changed and so for the European game they turned out in their exact home kit which to those poor sods watching highlights in Black and White, meant 20 players running round in identical kit. The bar stewards got a late equaliser (1-1) and won on away goals.
VectisSaint Posted 16 January, 2015 Share Posted 16 January, 2015 Why are we having to play in a 3rd yellow kit? Earlier in the season we both played in our home shirts... what's changed? It was not great at St Marys. This time we're playing under floodlights, the weather is grey and overcast, there may be snow, there are factors that may have influenced this change. Still, its good to be playing in the yellow/blue again.
John Boy Saint Posted 16 January, 2015 Share Posted 16 January, 2015 (edited) I'm sure we've played up there before in our regular home kit. Surprised they're not sticking it on sale. It could be a tactical ploy by the club as where have they have played in Yellow shorts the ref has for some reason has worn a Yellow shirt and from recall of comments from one of the games where this happened a couple of times the ball got passed towards the ref.................... so hopefully he will be officiating in Black to confuse the Toon Robert Madley in Turquoise (or is it Teal?) blowing his whistle for the game and rather strangely a Mr S Long running one of the lines: sounds like a Sunday league game and the officials are tad light! I'm sure we have too but it will have been a good many years since we played there in red and white stripes, there would not have been an issue with last year's Arsenal clone kit or the previous years Liverpool clone kit (or the sash for that matter). SaintBobby Posted 16 January, 2015 Share Posted 16 January, 2015 (edited) If we win v Newcastle, will we set any records? 1. Three away wins in a row (I accept that isn't too remarkable) 2. Three way wins in six days. 3. Three wins in televised games in six days. Similar records might also apply if we keep a clean sheet v the Geordies... Charlie Wayman Posted 16 January, 2015 Share Posted 16 January, 2015 Odds on we'll ship at least one goal up there because of the absence of Victor, Morgan & Toby. It's nonsense to think nothing will change, these are world class players and with the best will in the world, Cork, Davis & Gardos are not at their level. If our attack clicks and we score, 1-1 will be a good result but if we lose the midfield and the forwards become isolated 0-1 is likely and even 0-2. We are in a perfect storm of injuries right now and so we can't afford for Jose, Ryan and Nat to over-play and get an injury, the last thing we need is another key defender out for weeks. Sunderland fans certainly like them lending out their training ground, most of the retweets and favourites are from them...! I wonder if they realise there is a good chance Newcastle let us use their training ground when we play Sunderland? Saints have let Pompey's northern opponents use Staplewood on a number of occasions. Edited 16 January, 2015 by Matthew Le God
