----------------------Forster-------------------

Clyne---Gardos---Fonte-Bertrand

----------------Reed--------Davis----------

------------------------JWP---------------------

Tadic----------------------------------Elia

----------------------Pelle-----------------

Wouldn't take a draw but it wouldn't be diasterous by any means.

Tobes, Morgan, and Big Vic definitely out. Tadic could be a doubt judging by the way he went off in the Ipswich game. A tough fixture and a third away trip in 6 days..

How will we line up? Would you take a draw?

Go..

Yeah draw would be fine. Wouldn't have been too disappointed with a point from both United and Newcastle so 3's good, 4 better and 6 would be nuts.

This, with the only possible variables being Cork for Reed and Long for Tadic. The other nine are no-brainers IMO.

I'd agree with that team but I would take a draw. Newcastle put in a decent showing at Stamford Bridge and we never do well at SJP (Our last win up there anybody?)

8 points from Chelsea, Utd, Arsenal, Newcastle (a) and through to the cup 4th round. I think most teams would take that, even City and Chelsea (ignoring them playing themselves obviously).

Can't wait for this weekender, up Friday and back Sunday.

Forster

Bertrand

Fonte

Gardos

Clyne

Reed

JWP

Tadic/Long

Davis

Elia

Pelle

The players you have chosen are probably the 11 best/most fit, but I fear that our two youngsters would be too lightweight in protecting the back four. Cork next to Reed is one option (entirely depending on Cork's fitness) but Davis next to Reed could also work as that would open up for Tadic, Long and Elia supporting Pellè...

We beat Everton 3-0 with a midfield of Reed, Ward-Prowse and Davis. That trio worked well together as a shield for the back four and are all relatively small.

The bonus for us is that they are still in somewhat of limbo. Carver is still there, he wants the job, but clearly isn't going to get it. So there's going to be a lot of uncertainty around the place.

Added to the fact that they've lost Tiote, Cisse and Sissoko is injured (I think) we have as good a chance as any.

Sissoko is their best player and he isnt injured, but have some pretty poor defenders and miss Tiote and Cisse.

If we have CL ambitions, 3 points is all that is acceptable against a very average team with an interim manager. We cannot be dropping points to the likes of Newcastle and hope to be Top 4 at the end of the year.

If we draw or lose, is it all over? No, but these are matches you need to take all 3 points in order to keep the wolves (ManU, Arsenal, Tottenham, Liverpool) at bay.

What a load of ********. You know Chelsea and Liverpool lost there, right? A win would be a fantastic result, a draw a good result and a defeat not the end of the world.

That's actually a decent team, I'd be confident with that 11 of at least a point.

Exactly, RK is on thin ice. It was bad enough when we dropped two points against Chelsea and then missed all those chances against Arsenal, but failure to win this one would surely be the final nail in the Koeman coffin?

This is why I'd rather we won the cup.

"These are the matches"? It's one match.

We obviously need to win more than we lose to make the top 4, but I'd make us slight underdogs in this match.

Tough game, we beat them 4-0 at home...but Newcastle are so unpredictable you have no real idea what they're going to play like and what kind of a shift their players are going to put in, if I was a betting man I'd bet on a 1-1/2-2 draw personally, very winnable game yes, but Newcastle on their day can be very impressive, just depends which Newcastle turn up.

You are the same chap who said "guaranteed loss this" after a few mins into the Ipswich game, right?

I suggest you steer clear of punditry and stick to whatever day job you have....

It's called sarcasm m'dear.

God knows what my sarcastic Ipswich prediction has to do with my flourishing lap dancing career though.

Tough one to call. Missing Morgan, Vic & Toby is huge for us defensively, and Newcastle are so unpredictable.

----------Forster

Clyne Fonte Gardos Bertrand

-------Cork-----Reed

-----------Davis

JWP---------------------Elia

-----------Pelle

Off day for Newcastle, another clean sheet for Saints, 0-1.

Saints labeled boring in the press, Koeman happy with "amazing schpirit and organisations"

United drop points at QPR, fans have a meltdown.

Newcastle are a very up and down side, you never really know if they're going to turn up. We still have enough quality to get a result, a draw wouldn't be a disaster. If they're without Tiote and possibly Sissoko, then we can cope with our missing players. Hopefully Cork will be ready. Tough one to call, but I think it will be a 1-1 draw. Spurs should win at a canter, but Utd have a tricky trip to QPR and I can't see Arsenal doing anything at the Etihad on Sunday.

This game is going to be a tough challenge to win. With the specific injuries we have to our defence which is our best asset then we are faced with a real test of our champions league credentials. Can we weather this storm of injuries. If we somehow manage to get a result away at newcastle then we are looking very strong mentally and will prove our quality throughout the squad to be able to see it through to the end. The next games are our allegedly our 'kind' fixtures, this is where we can put points on the board and potentially create a gap between our rivals but of course it invariably doesn't work out that way in football. Come on you Saints !

Newcastle are more direct than LVG's somnambulant, sideway passing United. As such, we're going to need to retain possession much better than we did on Sunday or last night; otherwise can see them getting on top of us and making life very difficult without the core trio of VW, Morgan and Toby.

If Tadic is injured as well the team pretty much writes itself.

Classic 4-4-2

-------------------Forster-------------------

Clyne------Gardos-----Fonte------Bertrand

JWP--------Reed-------Davis---------Elia

---------Long-----------Pelle-------------

Some sort of 4-2-3-1 (being away and all that)

-------------------Forster-------------------

Clyne------Gardos-----Fonte------Bertrand

------------Reed-------Davis--------------

----Long---------JWP-------------Elia

-----------------Pelle--------------------

I like Davis further forward but don't like the idea of Reed and JWP in the Morgan, Big Vic role as both young and bit inexperienced.

Still, a decent line up but only the bench looks a bit lightweight with Cork, Targett, Isgrove, an injured Tadic, Sammy lee and the tea lady all sat on it.

Even with all the injuries and with Tadic rested as he came off at Ipswich with what appeared to be a muscle strain, the line-ups people have suggested look strong enough to maintain the system and get a win at Newcastle. Be very surprised if we don't get two goals given the striker quality of Long, Pelle and Elia, while the defence still looks good with Gardos performing well, Fonte just being Fonte and probably with Davis in front of the back 4. The main concern is that that any further injuries would be difficult to cope with as Cork might be the only sub with more than a handful of games behind him.

So far on this thread, I don't think anyone has suggested names for the subs bench, which is understandable as its likely to be a problem for RK.

Hadn't heard anything about Sissoko but frankly welcome if he is missing as very much rediscovering his mojo after losing way at Toulouse. Heavily linked with PSG and Arsenal which seems to be one of the reasons Pards quit, Cabaye MKII from this time last year. Tiote at ACON I'm presuming. Cisse still banned anyway after an inexplicable forearm smash on an Everton defender off the ball at a set piece (Alcaraz?).

Can't imagine Cork will start yet until Palace in the Cup so as you were in the second half last night. RK might start Elia again in place of Tadic to give us a bit more pace on the counter. He could play Long but he put in a massive workload last night.
