eelpie Posted 13 January, 2015 Share Posted 13 January, 2015 I've always enjoyed browsing Saints official site for latest news, especially the fantastic match and training ground photography. But now, as soon as I open the site, the ads scream and shout. Switch the irritating things off and they're back again in seconds. So now I can't be bothered. I wonder if the OS editors realise how counter-productive their a/v ads are.
richard Posted 13 January, 2015 Share Posted 13 January, 2015 Ad-block plugin is pretty good against these. I never see them.

Agreed, it is one of the most aggravating things on a web site when music starts or people start talking in an advert, especially when you are trying to listen to something else. Ad-block does not solve the problem without blocking all ads, which I don't want to do. Most sensible web sites now make sure that this sort of ad is not served, but not the OS for some reason. niceandfriendly Posted 13 January, 2015 Share Posted 13 January, 2015 Get Google Chrome, add Ad-block, problem solved. No more ads anywhere across the web. Utterly brilliant piece of kit. And you can choose certain sites to opt out if there are some where you'd actually like to see the ads (yeah, right)

Patrick Bateman Posted 13 January, 2015 Share Posted 13 January, 2015 The OS is just awful anyway, STILL they persist with a user-unfriendly colour scheme of white text on black - it messes with your eyes and is well known to be poor UX. Even if they went for grey text on black, it'd be better, FFS

VectisSaint Posted 13 January, 2015 Share Posted 13 January, 2015 You can configure Ad-block to only block ads on a particular site. Thanks Richard. I was aware of AdBlock but didn't realise you can configure to just block adds on selected domains. Given that my own web sites serve ads, I didn't want to just block ads on all sites otherwise it is a bit difficult for me to see what is going on. The ads would be more tolerable if it were possible to turn the sound down. Can they not include that feature?
Saint-Armstrong Posted 13 January, 2015 Share Posted 13 January, 2015 The ads would be more tolerable if it were possible to turn the sound down. Can they not include that feature? They have no control over the positioning of things, or the adverts etc that are included. The contract signed with FL clubs (at the time) with Perform (media group) meant that Perform took full control of format, layout, colours and positioning etc. Saints just write the words, upload the videos and post the pictures. All the rest is done by Perform. Saints would very much like their own, independent, website but from what I gather there's something with the current contract preventing that. Any idea when the current contract ends? Surprising if there's no option for the club to buy out the remainder of the contract. Everything has its price. Kingsbridge Saint Posted 14 January, 2015 Share Posted 14 January, 2015 I haven't visited the OS for years. Got fed up with the mobile site being completely unusable and then the desktop version being crap as well.
